#note Nice board forker with an S in hand.
>Edwin_Roth: ?ABLNST I6 N.STABLe +67 84
#note I2 BLANk(E)ST is 1 more and is harder to overlap for the TWS at the top. Still a nice find.
>Samuel_Kaplan: EFIILOS H13 FIE +22 56
#note This was a weird spot to be in, but it looks fine. I would have loved to clean up the rack better with FOIBLE.
>Edwin_Roth: IX J10 XI +54 138
#note Yeesh
>Samuel_Kaplan: CFILOSY 9E F.Y +26 82
#note With the open E at the bottom, I decided that keeping the L was fine, hence this over FL(A)Y. It would be a more obvious choice if it wasn't for the dictionary committee years ago because I have a hook to a now-expurgated word.
>Edwin_Roth: DEIINOS - +0 138
#note Not actual rack. Ed exchanged 5 tiles here.
>Samuel_Kaplan: CGILOOS K11 GOO +20 102
#note I mean it's boring, but it's as good as I can really do.
>Edwin_Roth: EL 10D LE. +11 149
>Samuel_Kaplan: CCIKLSS L12 SICK +36 138
#note Best play.
>Edwin_Roth: LOR 11C LOR +20 169
>Samuel_Kaplan: CGILSTU 12B CIG +22 160
#note This is becoming a pretty awful board. But I really need to keep Column J open for the time being.
>Edwin_Roth: ATY 15L .YAT +33 202
>Samuel_Kaplan: LRSTUUW -LRUUW +0 160
#note J4 ULU for only 9 sims slightly ahead of several exchanges with the E in FIE still being open. I kept ST instead of RS even with the open T in KYAT because I have the HAET hook.
>Edwin_Roth: ENO 14L .ONE +23 225
>Samuel_Kaplan: IMOPSST 13C PSI +25 185
#note No home for IMPOSTS or MISSTOP. I did think about simply playing off an S with G7 (HOY)S to fish for 15A OPTIMIS(E) or 15A EPISTOM(E) and so that Ed can't just drop an A at 10G. This way, I can eventually open up the top left of the board if I pick an A. It felt like too big of a point sacrifice on a board that is only getting worse for bingoes due to me needing an E to make any sort of Column M plays. In addition, there's only 4 Is and 7 Es and a blank left to hit those specific bingoes. However, the sim appears to back up HOYS here as it is a slightly slower attempt to deplete the tile bag. #strategymedium
>Edwin_Roth: A G7 ...A +17 242
#note Yea, I was afraid of that. But I still have Column J to work with, so taking 8 extra points isn't entirely a bad thing.
>Samuel_Kaplan: MNORRST J5 ROM +20 205
>Edwin_Roth: ADEIRRU - +0 242
#note Not actual rack. Ed exchanged 3 tiles here.
>Samuel_Kaplan: ENNRRST -NR +0 205
#note I mean there's so many turns that one of us may even go overtime!
>Edwin_Roth: ADEIMRT 15C DIATR.ME +62 304
#note I'm shocked he didn't see it at 15A.
>Samuel_Kaplan: EENRSTZ 5J .EZ +24 229
#note I fed him a bone after all so that I can keep a vowel. Maybe he'll play through the Z and help fork the board for me.
>Edwin_Roth: BD K4 D.B +11 315
#note Almost a full staircase board then.
>Samuel_Kaplan: AENRSTT L3 RE. +30 259
#note I didn't see 14J AN(CONE), but I'm doing this either way. Now if Ed parallels to the right of REZ, he'll give me back a bingo lane that may score enough to get me back in this game. This has the added benefit of hopefully drawing the important P for the PREZ hook, which is unblockable if he doesn't have an E.
>Edwin_Roth: J O13 J.. +10 325
#note Interesting
>Samuel_Kaplan: ADINSTT J14 D. +7 266
#note I think doing 3L RAD might raise more alarm bells that I have the last S than my play because this board is bereft of S hooks. The sim does back me up here. I am hoping to draw 1 of the 4 remaining Es for M6 INSTATE now.
>Edwin_Roth: ?ANOPRW - +0 325
#note Not actual rack. Ed exchanged 3 tiles again.
>Samuel_Kaplan: AEINSTT M6 INSTATE +62 328
#note I hit my fish! Let's go!
>Edwin_Roth: EPW 2L PEW +31 356
#note Oof. 28 points feels like a lot to make up on this board. But it's still doable.
>Samuel_Kaplan: ?AENOQW 1M WOE +28 356
#note I did see 8K OW(S)EN. I passed it up because I saw a potential path to victory by drawing into 8M (S)UQ with the 4 remaining Us in the pool. I can also score in the bottom left with the sneaky (LIP)i(D) insertion if I don't draw any of the remaining Is. WOE has the added benefit of stopping Ed from scoring in the top right as he's not as likely to score well using the S in INSTATE. The sim has WON and WOE at the top.
>Edwin_Roth: DIR N4 RID +15 371
>Samuel_Kaplan: ?AHNNQU 8M .UQ +36 392
#note It all went according to plan.
>Edwin_Roth: AU O8 .UA +12 383
>Samuel_Kaplan: ?AHINNU N10 HI +29 421
#note In restrospect, HA would have been a little better to save the I for the (LIP)I(D) insertion. But I have the blank for that too, so it's all good. This pretty much just wins on the spot.
>Edwin_Roth: E M1 ..E +16 399
>Samuel_Kaplan: ?AGNNU 9K GU. +4 425
>Edwin_Roth: LNORTU F14 U. +4 403
>Samuel_Kaplan: ?ANN 14A ANi +11 436
>Edwin_Roth: LNORT A14 .N +6 409
#note I did not see that Ed was actually L-stuck before I did ANi!
>Samuel_Kaplan: N A13 N.. +3 439
#note And I was close to being N-stuck here. Well, this is another game that I was down a lot and came back to win. This was a real grindout after all. Final score was recorded as 447-399 because Ed lost 10 points for overtime. 3-0 +345.
