#player2 Froilan_Mendoza Froilan Mendoza
>Samuel_Kaplan: ABGKRSW 8G GAWK +24 24
#note I did consider BAWK too and was just not particularly fond of keeping a G. GRS has pretty good synergy just like BRS does and doing BAWK won't give up a Y hook unlike GAWK. Small mistake if anything because that's how close the plays are.
>Froilan_Mendoza: DORU J4 DROU. +12 12
>Samuel_Kaplan: BELORST H5 RET.BLOS +61 85
#note Part of me expected the 2x2s of LOBSTER and BOLSTER to get blocked. I eschewed STORABLE and SORTABLE because they slot the E in the 2x2 lane. RETABLOS and BLOATERS sim about equally, so it's really just a matter of preference. Since I do feel comfortable outrunning Froilan on a more open board, I didn't like making the B a floater, so I went with this.
>Froilan_Mendoza: ACEGHRS 5B CHARGE. +26 38
#note This was his full rack. Apparently, my choice also accidentally blocked CHARGERS as a 2x2 and didn't give him an R at the bottom to work with. CHARGES does not play on this board, so I guess I got lucky.
>Samuel_Kaplan: EFILOPR 12A PROFILE. +82 167
#note Sometimes, Scrabble is a weird game. Not only did I block his bingo, but I drew another one myself. I mean, just wow.
>Froilan_Mendoza: AEI 4I I.EA +10 48
#note Nice play to fork the board and open up another quadrant.
>Samuel_Kaplan: ?DIIOPQ D4 Q.ID +28 195
#note Despite keeping II, C2 QOP(H) is worth it and was missed. #findingmedium
>Froilan_Mendoza: AA I7 A.A +17 65
#note I see he's got VOWELITIS*.
>Samuel_Kaplan: ?DEIOPS B7 DIOPt.ES +82 277
#note So I was going to do K8 SPOIlED until I came across this one. I don't think he's keeping high point tiles after he just played 5 vowels in his last 2 turns. B8 lEPO(R)IDS opens up a 3x3 for him whereas this move doesn't, and it scores the same as LEPORIDS.
>Froilan_Mendoza: ESV 8A V.ES +40 105
#note This was misscored as 46.
>Samuel_Kaplan: LMMNNTV -LMMNV +0 277
#note It does not look like E11 V(I)M is going to cut it if it only scores 16 and I still have 5 consonants to deal with. I'm fine with trading.
>Froilan_Mendoza: ILORY M1 ROILY +22 127
#note Once again, nice fork and aggression.
>Samuel_Kaplan: INNTTUW 1L W.IT +33 310
#note I could shed the dreaded UW combo with E9 UNW(I)T, but this scores too many more and is definitely worth it.
>Froilan_Mendoza: AAN A12 .AAN +22 149
>Samuel_Kaplan: GNNNRTU E9 TRU.NG +14 324
#note Right idea, TUNING in the same spot clean up the rack a little better. #findingsmall
>Froilan_Mendoza: FOY 2K YO.F +35 184
>Samuel_Kaplan: DEINNOS E2 NOI. +15 339
#note A slight improvement here would be 6F ON(E) to keep a little better leave. Small mistake.
>Froilan_Mendoza: AEIM L4 .MIE +13 197
>Samuel_Kaplan: DEENNST M7 DEN +12 351
#note If only we were playing with the Spanish dictionary, this is where I could reasonably compete with Nigel in that lexicon, because SONNETED would play at 11G making a Spanish word of SE*.
>Froilan_Mendoza: IX 13E .IX +37 234
>Samuel_Kaplan: EJLNSTT 10J JETS +32 383
>Froilan_Mendoza: CU 8M .CU +15 249
>Samuel_Kaplan: ABHLNTZ K9 Z.N +24 407
#note I guess I could empty the bag by doing B(E)NZAL in the same spot. I can comfortably outrun out bingoes he could have. But since I didn't see that, I settled on this. #findingmedium
>Froilan_Mendoza: EE J10 .EE +12 261
>Samuel_Kaplan: ABHLTTV 3G VAT +14 421
#note If I had done BAH in the same spot, I would have V-stuck myself because Froilan would recognize that and thus not given me a spot to play my V. There are no playable bingoes for him, and I can at least save O7 B(U)HL and G11 H(EX) to get some other stuff off my rack.
>Froilan_Mendoza: ?AEMNOU 13I OdEUM +24 285
#note If he had done something like 2A hUMA(N)E, the best I can do is G11 H(EX).
>Samuel_Kaplan: BHLT L12 B.HL +20 441
#note I have been allowed to gain more spread because of ODEUM.
>Froilan_Mendoza: AN H1 AN. +9 294
#note So just imagine how this one could have played out if he got to play a 2x2 of CHARGERS. That basically set the tone for this one. Final score was recorded as 441-302. 2-0 +297.
