>Edwin_Roth: AQU 8G QUA +24 24
>Samuel_Kaplan: EEKNSTT 7I KENT +24 24
#note I enjoyed making this play a lot due to keeping 2 different hooks and a solid leave.
>Edwin_Roth: ADEO F5 ODEA +22 46
#note He could have played ODEA at 6I for 5 more.
>Samuel_Kaplan: EEHJNST E5 JET +43 67
#note I did see J6 J(E)E but wasn't crazy about it if there's an open T and I have a T. Either JEE or JET allows me to keep the KENTE hook which was nice. With that said, K5 JE(N)NETS is another reasonable option with that being 13 more, but it does dispose of the KENTE hook that I have. I think JET is fine because it at least eliminates the 2x2 entirely whereas JEE won't do that due to the AJEE hook.
>Edwin_Roth: OY 6I OY +33 79
>Samuel_Kaplan: EHNORRS L4 NOR.HERS +80 147
#note Only bingo available. Good find. I did see HORNERS* which Joey Mallick once got away with in a 2005 game that Mack Meller featured in a phonies video. Yes, I do keep referencing Mack in my annotations but please do check out his Youtube channel if you haven't already. He puts up great content.
>Edwin_Roth: AAEINRT 11E RATANIE. +82 161
#note Clearly his best play, but watch this game become a slugfest.
>Samuel_Kaplan: ADFHINO 10H FOH +37 184
#note I really liked how I could draw into H10 (FA)DEIN with an E draw with this play. It would be challenging to end a 6 with an F or H for H1 plays which is why I felt it was best to dump those and score a few extra points with FOH over 10F FID. This is ok if I wasn't looking to bingo asap, but if I didn't see the possibility of drawing into FADEIN, I might have given more thought to doing 10F FIDO instead. #strategysmall
>Edwin_Roth: ?AAGIOS 4H lOGA.IAS +59 220
>Edwin_Roth: ?AAGIOS -- -59 161
#note And cheers to my 6th word wars win of this tournament without a single loss thus far! LOGANIA does not take an S, which is how I knew to call this off. No valid bingoes play.
>Samuel_Kaplan: ADILNOP 8L .OLP +27 211
#note I am still threatening FADEIN with an E draw as well as (FA)XING with a much more unlikely GX draw. Another reason why HOLP was strong is because after I just challenged off a phony bingo attempt, I believe he will miss the 1 and only valid bingo of OTALGIAS through the L that I would give him. I didn't even bother blocking the 10F hotspot where big Z plays can happen knowing he doesn't have the Z so that I can hopefully draw it myself.
>Edwin_Roth: ?AAGIOS 12G AGO +20 181
>Samuel_Kaplan: ACDEIMN O8 .ANDEMIC +98 309
#note This is a word fresh in most people's brains from Covid. And not to mention I was quite happy to see this one.
>Edwin_Roth: ?AIIINS 15H ISAtINI. +80 261
#note Wow. Nice find!
>Samuel_Kaplan: DENOPRT 13A PORTEND +80 389
#note I am keeping my foot on that gas pedal.
>Edwin_Roth: ?ABEEIW C6 BEWAIlE. +64 325
#note Ed is not going down without a fight. I like this sequence over the last few turns.
>Samuel_Kaplan: EILLRSV H1 LIVERS +36 425
#note It looks worse than A11 VI(P)ER at a first glance, but keeping my S would mean an overall clunky leave and Ss aren't that powerful on this board. That's likely why LIVERS sims quite a bit better than A11 VIPER.
>Edwin_Roth: CELMTU A9 CLUM.ET +48 373
>Samuel_Kaplan: ADLORSU 14H LUD +19 444
#note This play might have just saved the game for me right there. It is time to sacrifice a couple points. While Ed is very unlikely to bingo with what is unseen to me, he can catch up to me easily by doing 14J ZIG or ZIT or 14H TIZ. 14H OUD would be the play if the pool had more vowels than consonants, but that is not the case here.
>Edwin_Roth: EFW K3 FEW +30 403
>Samuel_Kaplan: AORSTVY J2 YO +18 462
#note I purposely did not do 10E OY due to the possibility of J2 ZIG coming down which for him would do a better job of freeing up some clunk. If he has both the X and Z, I want him to not be able to play as many tiles with them. Namely, he has F10 ZA and 3 separate high scoring spots for the X (and he can only play off the X if he wants to use the M9, B14, or N14 hotspot). If he has ZIG on his rack, and he wants to get rid of more tiles, it would have to be M2 ZIG which would give me nice counterplay and he won't be able to go out with the other clunk he's keeping.
>Edwin_Roth: BGGIIXZ F10 Z. +31 434
>Samuel_Kaplan: ARSTUV 13M VU. +16 478
>Edwin_Roth: BGGIIX B13 .X +36 470
>Samuel_Kaplan: ARST M1 ARTS +11 489
#note I did not see J5 T(YE)S for 27 which is actually better than going out! But even then, B4 STAR is 3 more.

In order to have a chance to win a tournament, these are the types of games that I need to be able to win, and I did it here. And it happened despite being double blanked, which is really a plus. Challenging off LOGANIAS* was a big reason why I was able to start outrunning him. 4-0 +453.
