>Samuel_Kaplan: AIIIIOU -AIIIIOU +0 0
#note It's purely a coincidence I've found lots of Is on my opening rack for the 2nd time in the same tournament lol!
>Connie_Creed: QSU H7 SUQ +24 24
>Samuel_Kaplan: CEEKNOR G6 KEN +13 13
#note This was a super important turn right here and does a great job of restricting Connie's options. I at least have an O to reparallel on Column F if she can't do that, and without another S or a T or a G, I can't see her doing much. There is also G4 COKE which I might do against other opponents if it wasn't for a play like SUQ.
>Connie_Creed: GOR F5 GOR +17 41
#note She could have played F6 ORG with the same tiles for 4 more.
>Samuel_Kaplan: CEJOORT 5D JO. +22 35
#note Looks good. I could also do 6D JO(OK) to make it harder for Connie to use the J but I give up 7 points which was too many. And now the T was a great tile to draw for the REST hook.
>Connie_Creed: BLW E3 BL.W +19 60
>Samuel_Kaplan: ACEIORT 3E .ORACITE +66 101
#note I originally had a no-go until she gave me the B. Thank you very much!
>Connie_Creed: BRY H1 BR.Y +39 99
>Samuel_Kaplan: ?ADDEGO 2J GAD +21 122
#note I thought DIALOGUED was the only valid spelling, but DIALOGED is valid too. Same with DIALOGER just like DIALOGUER. If I wasn't fully sure of the bingo, blocking the hotspot was fine and it at least sims ahead of 4J DODGE and 4J DADO. #knowledgemedium
>Connie_Creed: CIOT 1L OTIC +26 125
>Samuel_Kaplan: ?ADEOOT 2F DO. +17 139
#note 4K TAO is probably OK here. #findingsmall
>Connie_Creed: IS M1 .IS +38 163
>Samuel_Kaplan: ?AEOSTT O1 .OSTATEd +80 219
#note Wow. I could have just as easily done something like (C)OTTAgES in the same spot and be OK. Instead I phonied for the 2nd time today. Am I seriously wrong when I thought 2 people could give a speech or do a protest at the same time? Apparently, COSTATE means having ribs, and thus it takes no hooks. #findingsad
>Connie_Creed: INOU 9H .UOIN +15 178
>Samuel_Kaplan: AADEGRU K5 GAUD.ER +36 255
#note Yep. Almost had DUNGAREE/UNAGREED/UNDERAGE but this is good enough given my actual rack.
>Connie_Creed: INO I3 .OIN +11 189
>Samuel_Kaplan: AEFHLRT J9 .F +26 281
#note Yes. I liked my chances of potentially hitting ENTHRAL or HALTERE (or even HARSLET with an S draw) with this pool.
>Connie_Creed: EM L11 EM +10 199
#note Ok then...
>Samuel_Kaplan: AEHLLRT 13H HALTER +25 306
#note I did not hit my fish. Against a stronger opponent, this would be a small strategy mistake because I don't think that somebody who is down nearly 100 points would fish for a bingo while keeping the X. So usually, THALER would be a stronger play that would have been fine to do despite giving up an X hotspot. With that said, there is also the possibility that Connie would miss the HALTERE hook on this. So this might be the stronger play based on that aspect spefically against her.
>Connie_Creed: ?ADEINV 12C INVAdED +81 280
#note And it actually paid off because INVAdED does play at N8 for 97. But after THALER, I believe her best play is just 10B INVADEs for 78.
>Samuel_Kaplan: AEILLXZ N12 ZEAL +36 342
#note Right idea. I will say that N9 AXILE is better positionally and didn't come across that. #questionable
>Connie_Creed: HI O14 HI +26 306
>Samuel_Kaplan: EFILPXY N7 PIXY +29 371
#note C9 PYX(I)E would have been excellent defense!
>Connie_Creed: ANV 13A VAN +16 322
#note Nice play to attempt to distract me. This is why PYXIE was a better play.
>Samuel_Kaplan: AEEEFLT E10 FA.E +20 391
#note So an interesting scenario took place: I was counting the tiles and a tile fell out of the bag. Connie and I called the director, Judy Cole, over and told her that while I was on turn, a tile fell out of the bag. So Judy spent a couple minutes looking for the applicable rule to this scenario. She then ruled that Connie could see what the loose tile was and also had the option to exchange any tile on her rack for the loose tile. Connie then said "this is a great tile" but declined to exchange any tiles. So I had to think about this for some time and eventually realized she was up to something: she most likely had an out bingo with the SUQS hook on her rack! So with this pool, MURINES, MUREINS, UMPIRES, or PURINES were possibilities because I didn't see anything with the W (there are none). I am glad to not fall for the trap Connie tried setting up with VAN and it's worth noting that regardless of whether the director's call happened or not, it would not have influenced my decision to block easy 7s she could have.
>Connie_Creed: EINPRSU A11 RI.ES +27 349
#note So yea, she would have bingoed out with PURINES and I would have lost!
>Samuel_Kaplan: EELMTW 14A .W +20 411
#note C11 W(IN)E blocks both 15A (S)PUN as well as C9 UNP(IN)!
>Connie_Creed: NPU 10E .UN +8 357
>Samuel_Kaplan: EELMT B9 EME +13 424
#note 15A (S)EEM is 2 more spread points with the same tiles.
>Connie_Creed: P H11 P.. +8 365
#note 11A (RE)P is 2 more here. I am an offensive-minded player, but I can play defense when needed and wait for Connie to give me something I need and BORACITE briefly did the trick. That director's call added to the excitement of this one! 3-0 +461. Racking up spread again.
