#player2 Samuel_Kaplan Samuel Kaplan
>David_Firstman: AZ 8G ZA +22 22
>Samuel_Kaplan: FIIIIIS -FIIII +0 0
#note This has to be a record for most of 1 letter on my opening draw. It reminds me of when I used to start almost every sentence with an I! It's very close between keeping IS and keeping just the S here. There is normally the fear of drawing another I which would hamper my rack. In this case, keeping IS for balance isn't terrible as there are only 4 unseen Is. But the most important thing is, as defensive as David can be, I've figured out how to counter him.
>David_Firstman: CELOSTY - +0 22
#note Not actual rack. David exchanged 4 tiles here.
>Samuel_Kaplan: GHILRSY I8 GIRLY +23 23
#note This is one way to force the board open against him. He's not going to suspect that I am keeping an S. However, this was not a good time to make this specific play because I saw H7 G(A)RISHLY and talked myself out of it. #knowledgelarge
>David_Firstman: ?AINQST 11C QuINTA.S +82 104
#note I should have paid the price more dearly. While doing G(A)RISHLY still means he does QUINTALS on Row 13, J2 QuINTAS or QINTArS are 101 each.
>Samuel_Kaplan: ADEHMOS 12I .ODH +24 47
#note I did not know D6 MADHO(u)SE in this position. I did look for H11 plays and did not come across H11 (A)MAHS. That's a gettable one and clearly worth it over YODH if I don't know the bingo. #findinglarge
>David_Firstman: IX 10E XI +24 128
>Samuel_Kaplan: ?AEEEMS 13K EME +20 67
#note This or 9G AM(I)E can both be justified. AMIE is 3 more immediately which is probably why it sims slightly ahead of EME. Not only did I like EME over AMIE with 9 more unseen Es, but I liked creating another lane at the bottom and also not obstructing the ZAGS hook that I have where some bingoes can score a lot without needing the DWS.
>David_Firstman: BEI G6 BI.E +17 145
>Samuel_Kaplan: ?AEKSSW J6 KAS +31 98
#note I did intentionally choose this over J4 WEKAS and WAKES just because I have another S to make SKAS. I probably overvalued the K5 hotspot and he would probably sniff my setup and play defensively. WAKES and WEKAS are simming a couple points ahead of KAS despite my bingo % being roughly equal between WEKAS and KAS. #strategysmall
>David_Firstman: GINOY K3 YOGIN +26 171
#note I would not have expected him to play YOGIN at 5I unless he had another I.
>Samuel_Kaplan: ?DEIRSW L4 mISDREW +88 186
#note I would give this one an 8/10. I am glad to see some parallels here and this is more sound than 4H WID(O)wERS which I saw. I looked primarily at the L4 spot to start with a W and didn't quite come across something like WIDdERS in the same spot as MISDREW. But the star play is pretty insane: L2 REWInDS!
>David_Firstman: ACP M3 CAP +22 193
>Samuel_Kaplan: AEEHORV 8L .OVE +21 207
#note Hard call between this and M9 HOE. Since I'm playing David and it's just about an even game, I liked playing my game more.
>David_Firstman: EEF H4 FEE +14 207
#note Interesting...
>Samuel_Kaplan: AEHMPRU C8 MAR.UE +36 243
#note Yep. Clearly the best play. And I would get a free turn, so it worked out after all.
>David_Firstman: AEGNNOR - +0 207
#note Not actual rack. MARQUE got challenged.
>Samuel_Kaplan: HINOPTU 8A HU.P +42 285
#note Mhm
>David_Firstman: ENTT 13B T.NET +5 212
#note He could have used the MARQUEE hook to his advantage to do TENT for 26 based on this partial rack. It also makes a volatile lane that he needs when he's behind by a bingo.
>Samuel_Kaplan: INOORTU D3 TURNI. +16 301
#note Right idea with the turnover and blocking the HUMPS hook. I will say that TURNIP is a worse play than it usually is because I should not be keeping 2 Os with 3 more usneen. While TURNIP isn't egregious, I should be looking to address my O problem while also blocking more indirectly with F2 UNROOT or even 4C UNROOF. #visionmedium
>David_Firstman: EFGNO I1 GONEF +20 232
>Samuel_Kaplan: BILOORV O6 OV.RBOIL +64 365
#note Yea, he's going aggressive now. I purposely chose OVERBOIL over BOILOVER so that David does not have big plays like N10 JOUST.
>David_Firstman: AJLU 1G JU.AL +39 271
#note He had some of the required tiles for JOUST.
>Samuel_Kaplan: AAELNTT 14A TAE +28 393
#note 14E TETANAL
>David_Firstman: DEIOOSW 14E WOODIES +78 349
>David_Firstman: DEIOOSW -- -78 271
#note Nice try lol.
>Samuel_Kaplan: AACDLNT A4 LATC. +11 404
#note I wanted to play an out in 2, but I didn't see that David could have played 15A OWSE. So AD in the bottom left would have been fine. He's not bingoing out, and neither am I after I determined the R was the last tile in the bag. #preendgamelarge
>David_Firstman: DEIOOSW 15A OWSE +55 326
#note This was misscored as 46. He could have done OVERBOILED for a nice spread cutter too.
>Samuel_Kaplan: ADNR 14E DARN +14 418
#note All right, I escaped a bit despite being unsure of GARISHLY and made up for it by getting a challenge on MARQUE. Final score was recorded as 426-317. 1-0 +91. I would surprisingly be in 1st after Rd 1 despite not even getting triple digit spread.
>Samuel_Kaplan: (DIO) +8 426
