>Joel_Sherman: EMOU 8G MEOU +12 12
>Samuel_Kaplan: AAEIQRS 9F QI +17 17
#note This is the most nervous I have ever been playing a tournament game in a long time. This is not just another average joe (or average JOEL* I should say); this is a 2 time national champ. AQUA seemed too aggressive for my liking with so many Es remaining. QI seemed decent just because I can overlap MEOU with my A easily with most hooks underneath MI and I score 2 more while still giving myself decent bingo chances.
>Joel_Sherman: EIWY I7 Y.WIE +19 31
>Samuel_Kaplan: AAERRSS K4 ARRASES +71 88
#note I feel like this is part of where I lost the game. I was not 100% sure that YOWIE took an S, and I can't afford to make mistakes against Joel. He knows his stuff clean and is not the right person to attempt a phony against.
>Joel_Sherman: AABDILR 11B RADIABL. +72 103
#note That's why my placement was a big mistake. He's not bingoing without the right floater.
>Samuel_Kaplan: ADDNOVZ L1 ZONA +50 138
#note Mhm
>Joel_Sherman: AELO 1K A.OLE +42 145
>Samuel_Kaplan: CDDNRTV C10 C.RD +14 152
#note This play doesn't even sim because that's how bad this rack is. Probably should have exchanged down to CR instead of forcing my way through this. #strategylarge
>Joel_Sherman: EIOO H11 .OOIE +18 163
>Samuel_Kaplan: ?DLNTTV 13G V.LT +12 164
#note Very close between 15G V(E)LDT and this.
>Joel_Sherman: EJU K12 JEU +18 181
>Samuel_Kaplan: ?DENRST M4 SNoRTED +62 226
#note 5D STRaNDE(R) is clearly a better choice and his next move explains why. If I'm going to miss that, maybe 15C NERDi(E)ST is a better choice. #findingmedium
>Joel_Sherman: EX N5 EX +51 232
#note While it is reasonable to infer that maybe Joel didn't keep the X after JEU just because he needs a 5 letter word to hit the TWS, he's scoring much less with his X after I do something other than a Column M bingo.
>Samuel_Kaplan: BEKNPTU 12K .UNK +30 256
#note Looks fine.
>Joel_Sherman: ATV L9 VAT. +17 249
>Samuel_Kaplan: BEGIPST O8 GIBES +44 300
#note Best play.
>Joel_Sherman: HIT 1H THI..... +60 309
#note Nice extension.
>Samuel_Kaplan: GHINPRT 2K H.P +17 317
#note Looks great for bingo potential, but 2J TR(O)PIN was missed and is not the easiest play to spot. #visionlarge
>Joel_Sherman: MU 10E MU +24 333
>Samuel_Kaplan: CDGINRT N12 .ING +18 335
#note Wasn't sure what to do here. I wasn't a fan of my odds of hitting a bingo after fishing with F9 (QUA)D so I took 4 more points. Thoughts?
>Joel_Sherman: AEW 15L WA.E +36 369
>Samuel_Kaplan: CDFIORT 12C .OC +23 358
#note Not many great scoring options once again...
>Joel_Sherman: GNO 15E GON. +5 374
>Samuel_Kaplan: DFIILRT I1 .ID +9 367
#note My winning chances are deceptively bad here despite how close the score is. First of all, Joel and I were both unsure the whole game if ERADIABLE was good (it's not). Secondly, Joel's play of GONE suggested he had most, if not all, of the tiles he needed for the FORE(GONE) extension. I figured that my only hope is to somehow draw the FORE(GONE) extension myself by drawing EO from the bag and hoping that he has 2 of the 3 high pointers on his rack that would prevent him from bingoing. His play of GONE tells me that he has either the P or the Y on his rack already and was setting it up for himself in case he might not have drawn FORE(GONE). If I draw E? or EE out of the bag, I could bingo out with FERTILE or FILTERE(D) or RELIFTE(D) and win the game on the spot.
>Joel_Sherman: ?AEFOPT 14D TAP +24 398
#note This will get the job done for him. And now I cannot block the FOREGONE extention very effectively.
>Samuel_Kaplan: EFILRTY 4E FLYTE +20 387
#note FLYTIER does not play on this board, and 5E FLYTIE(R) would be better for spread because not only am I not stopping Joel from playing out, but there is no way I can outrun 15A FOrE(GONE).
>Joel_Sherman: ?EFNO E3 O.FENd +22 420
#note I did make several mistakes this game that someone of Joel's caliber will punish me for. YOWIE does take an S. I should have exchanged instead of playing CARD. STRaNDE(R) should have been the play instead of SNoRTED. That's why I didn't exactly deserve to win. It all comes down to tactical decisions and there's a reason why I'm aspiring to earn the title of Expert and Joel is a longtime Grandmaster. He played very well as he usually does and there's areas I can improve in such as the plays I mentioned above.
