>Robert_Desimone_Jr: JOY 8G JOY +26 26
#note Somehow this was misscored as 28. Neither one of us caught this.
>Samuel_Kaplan: EGLLQRR -GLLQR +0 0
#note I did consider keeping EL and keeping ELR as well as keeping ER. LR usually seems a bit awkward together, but keeping an L actually gets along with a Y nicely. To me, keeping ER made the most sense just because this was likely to get reparalleled if he didn't have an S. So trying to hit a bingo ending with -LY was more unlikely than usual to happen.
>Robert_Desimone_Jr: DE 9H DE +13 39
>Samuel_Kaplan: EEELNRS J2 ENREELS +75 75
#note If Robert had done 8G (JOY)ED, SERENEL(Y) would have played! So I guess my theory held up. Unfortunately, this is phony, but it looks enough like UNREELS that he might let this go, and he did. Joel Sherman, my next opponent, immediately pointed out after the game that this was phony, and even though he hadn't played a tournament in several years, he looked like he didn't miss a beat.
>Robert_Desimone_Jr: EN 8E EN.... +16 55
>Samuel_Kaplan: AKORRTV 10E KORAT +21 96
#note He's close to a bingo after fishing off DE and EN on back to back turns. While doing this will allow me a nice opportunity to score respectably next turn with an A or I draw because he is likely to bingo and this can help keep the game close, probably doing E4 TROV(E) or TROV(E)R are both better given his strong range as they block both possible 2x2s. #visionmedium
>Robert_Desimone_Jr: AADENRT 4H NA.RATED +74 129
#note He was close to doing this at 4G. That would have changed the board entirely. But NARRATED is his only bingo here.
>Samuel_Kaplan: AEIORTV O4 .EVIATOR +86 182
#note Good time for a vowel heavy draw.
>Robert_Desimone_Jr: AB N10 BA +22 151
>Samuel_Kaplan: EFIILWW 11D WIFE +39 221
#note Looks like the clear best play.
>Robert_Desimone_Jr: AOR 12B ARO +16 167
>Samuel_Kaplan: ABILOPW 3L PAW +29 250
#note So I spent some time wondering what his last play was about. At a first glance, maybe Robert was setting up an F. But why would he do that if FARO scores a lot more and the F isn't a friendly bingo tile? And why would he not make the safer play of 12D OR? Maybe he had another A? Or it's possible he was trying to distract me if he wasn't keeping a T. Either way, there wasn't much I could do to try playing through the A in ARO as that will make openings that will be very hard for me to block. So I decided to take out the remaining floaters in NARRATED, and this seems like the right idea. H1 BAW(N) wasn't happening at this score, not without an S in hand and especially not while I'm ahead.
>Robert_Desimone_Jr: AGIINNS 12H SAINING +74 241
#note Whew. I figured he was up to something, but thankfully he didn't hit me too hard.
>Samuel_Kaplan: ?BDEILO B8 vOID.BLE +74 324
#note As dangerous as this is, he just drew 7 random tiles so the odds of him hitting a 3x3 were less than usual. In the end, it's not worth it to sacrifice points to make the safer play of 6D rEBOIL(E)D or to do E1 ErODIBL(E). And yea, ARO was a great play to force me to make openings that are hard to block off.
>Robert_Desimone_Jr: FOX 13G FOX +44 285
>Samuel_Kaplan: GIOTUVY 2M VOG +32 356
#note H1 VYI(N)G is clearly better than this. That's a miss. #findingmedium
>Robert_Desimone_Jr: EGZ 15A G.EZ +72 357
#note VOG was clearly better than G(E)Y but either way I wasn't stopping this from coming down. Nice play!
>Samuel_Kaplan: ?IOTUUY -IUUY +0 356
#note I did not see 13D OUT(FOX) here. Normally I might keep IT? if I were to exchange, but since I have the last O, I felt that keeping OT? was better.
>Robert_Desimone_Jr: CHT L3 ..TCH +12 369
>Samuel_Kaplan: ?EIMOQT 11J QI +37 393
#note Good time to get the Q back I guess. But still no Us are on the board yet!
>Robert_Desimone_Jr: LLSY L11 S.LLY +24 393
#note I guess he must have a lot of consonants.
>Samuel_Kaplan: ?AEMMOT 3B MOMEnTA +74 467
#note I did not know 5C AMMOcET(E) here. That would have been insane had I actually knew it and found it. But I am pleased to have found the only 7 that plays.
>Robert_Desimone_Jr: U B2 U. +8 401
#note Finally a U comes down, and this time the opening will be addressed.
>Samuel_Kaplan: EIISTUU 1A ETUI +20 487
#note Gonna block the possiblity of 1A URCHIN from coming down if the P is in the bag. But then he could have CHIRPY or PUNCHY into the Y if I pick the D or P or one of the D, I, or R, respectively.
>Robert_Desimone_Jr: CDHIPRU 15G CHIRP. +48 449
>Samuel_Kaplan: INSU 4C NUS +18 505
#note How about spot the out play of MINUS or MUNIS? #visionnotgreat
>Robert_Desimone_Jr: DU 2H DU. +8 457
#note Nice test early on. Glad I was able to fend off a high score to take this one. Final score was recorded as 506-461. 1-0 +45.
>Robert_Desimone_Jr: (I) +2 459
