>Niel_Gan: ?EILORT J3 dOILTER +72 72
#note Spent a couple min looking for and missing the only 77-pointer, which was prob too long. This is -1% from the next best option, which is something like J6 OvERLIT or TREfOIL 74. Did think it better than (U)LTERIOr 74.

>Niel_Gan: ABEENTW 5D BEWET +33 175
>Niel_Gan: AEHIJNU (challenge) +5 180
#note Went for points, probably a slight mistake given plays like WEB(S) and EW hit pretty often, which is nice when I have no S or blank. +5 makes it sim best but that's incidental.
>Matthew_O'Connor: EEZ 6B ZEE +36 170
>Niel_Gan: AEHIJNU 3B JEHU +31 211
#note Didn't think it more likely than typical that he kept an M. This kinda has to be the play regardless.
>Matthew_O'Connor: EFI H1 FIE.. +24 194
>Niel_Gan: AAINRTU G8 .UATRAIN +69 280
#note Took probably 2 min because I didn't start by looking for bingos.
>Matthew_O'Connor: EILNOOS 11C OILS.ONE +66 260
>Niel_Gan: DEEIOTY H14 OY +32 312
#note Considered DOY and OY. This was a pretty big miscalculation. Gotta take the points here bc the extra ~13 bingo % doesn't overcome the score + additional defense. -3%
>Matthew_O'Connor: MOPP 2C POMP +31 291
>Niel_Gan: DEEINOT 7A NODE +28 340
#note Hit a bing but missed the spot for it. Gotta remember to manually look through every letter when I have the time for it, which I did here with high-prob tiles and no blank.
This seems fine otherwise. Scores now, hits 25%, gives Matt one chance at a spot when there are other prob better lanes anyway. I felt he was likely to try to outscore rather than bingo again, which made me unhappy getting rid of both N and D for row 1 plays. Also took too long here.
>Matthew_O'Connor: AY 8A YA +42 333
>Niel_Gan: EHINRST K11 SINH +32 372
#note Forgot to look through partially blocked lanes again which is extremely terrible. Part of the benefit of OY vs DOY is thinking my leave is better on average than his random draw, and I often need to continue offense vs Matthew if I have the chance, so not looking through the sneaky lanes = missing my follow-through.
Aside from scoring ok, this play is very bad because I shouldn't treat that spot as a threat when there's no way to x2 or x3 a power tile while hooking it with the blank. One-tile fish worth considering here, but I prefer something like N6 HE(I)R 32 taking out one of the actually-dangerous spots while keeping S to hit OILSTONES or maybe S(OH) next turn. ERT risks getting outrun if I don't lucky with the right consonants. Very sneaky trig-related play for 31 also available. -26% from bingo and -10% from next best.
>Matthew_O'Connor: DEW N6 WE.D +34 367
>Niel_Gan: CEEGRRT D9 TR.G +10 382
#note Got punished on previous turn for not playing at N6. At some point aound this turn, I accidentally leave the clock running while Matt has a think because I didn't hit it properly, so I enter the preendgame with 2 minutes and change. I see C(H)ERT 32 here but talked myself out of it - weird when I know it both as a regular word and a hook to CHER. Nerves? Looked for and missed REGRET, which I do regret. Saw C(H)EER and thought it was terrible with the pool. Eventually had to play a word I was sure of, but this definitely isn't the way to do it. 12A CERT or GERT better if doing something along these lines, bc score is crucial and I don't NEED both Es.
>Matthew_O'Connor: AFLN 1A FLAN +36 403
>Niel_Gan: CDEEGIR 14J C.IDER +36 418
#note Matthew continues on the outscoring route and I continue to be mad that I predicted this but did not handle it well. Saw GRIECE but thought this or C(H)IDE better, which is accurate. Didn't have time to think too much about things like timing, whether the "exclusive" R was worth the risk that he would use the blank there on something big. The worst he can do there is ~47 after C(H)IDE, which I did not calculate during the game. These plays never use the X and always use the blank. If I play C(H)IDE instead and he has a bad combo of letters, I have two separate threats on the O column that can force tough choices between scoring, flexibility, preventing outs/scoring, and getting rid of high pointers.
>Matthew_O'Connor: ?ABKUVX O3 BUKe +15 418
#note NG: Playing C(H)IDER instead of just C(H)IDE gave back the option for a huge play here. Matt was time-rushing me a little when he played this because I had a minute on the clock after my earlier clock-hitting mishap, and it was very effective. Even though this play technically loses, it wasn't a guarantee that eXU(R)B or less obvious wins would exist if he looked for them, and it stops my easy out in a situation where I hadn't even tracked the last turns yet.
>Niel_Gan: EGLOV 12I OL.VE +20 438
#note I think what I have to do here is finish tracking even if I only have a minute, and assume that he left a spot for an out. That would be much better than what I actually did, which is spend the time looking for my best outs in a vacuum (and being unsure of TRIGO, which doesn't matter anyway becaue VLOG loses). There is only one win, but it is a pretty natural one to consider if you've tracked and have time to look for opponent options.
>Matthew_O'Connor: AVX 4A VAX +39 457
>Matthew_O'Connor: (G) +4 461
#note The end. Even without accidentally burning 3 or 4 preendgame minutes, I lost this game when I kept bingo-leaning leaves but didn't look through every lane on two consecutive turns. The failure to address his outscoring options is icing on the sadness cake. Extremely winnable at multiple junctures with better play.
