#note Word Cup 2024, Round 29. Starting the day 17-11, I basically know I need two wins to cash. As I was telling Kenji last night (we were staying at the same hotel), all I ask for in these Nationals is to get to Wednesday with something to play for. Here we go.
>Kenji_Matsumoto: ACDHLNO 7C HOLD +30 30
#note Mike: "Hold..." Kenji: "...oh, your making a joke." Kenji: This was a strategic choice over NODICAL. Not a good strategic choice.
>Mike_Frentz: ?EKNRTZ F7 ..NK +19 41
#note NERTZ 9F leads the sim. Repeat after me: THE Z IS NOT A BINGO TILE!
>Kenji_Matsumoto: ACEILLN 10C LIN. +8 38
#note I don't know. This sims alright. I don't think Mike has very many of BCP, and I don't like the other options very much. Debatable, but I'm okay with this.
>Mike_Frentz: ?EQRRTZ E10 .ERTZ +28 69
>Kenji_Matsumoto: ACEGLOW B10 COWAGE +53 91
>Mike_Frentz: ??EOQRR 7H tORQuER +67 136
>Kenji_Matsumoto: AAIJLNV M4 JAV.LINA +69 160
>Mike_Frentz: AABENSU A14 AB +27 163
#note BAA looks a bit better, but this worked out.
>Kenji_Matsumoto: AIORTUW H1 OUTWRI.. +42 202
#note It does not feel good to string open a very juicy R or T given Mike just played AB and not something like BAA or TAB but sims say I really have no choice here.
>Mike_Frentz: AEEINSU 5A UNEASIE. +66 229
>Kenji_Matsumoto: ABIINVX 3E BIN. +7 209
#note So this play isn't bad, but it's likely just too all in. 6/46 at three draws means I get there about 3/8 of the time, some of the time VAX does stay open and it's extremely painful to block, but gosh this position just absolutely sucks when I miss on both EXUVIA and VAX. That being said when I do get there it's pretty awesome on either front. Sim wants me to play NIQAB and just take whatever I get from IVX as a leave and I do agree, but gosh I really don't just like the scenario of Mike hitting some TORQUERS play and me drawing nothing great and wondering if this would've worked out. Small error.
>Mike_Frentz: DEEOORU 4C ODE +21 250
#note I suspected this might be an X setup (and I was right), but even inferring the X, ROQUE K5 leads the sim. But this is Kenji we're talking about. Of COURSE he has it. This all but kills the spot (I have the next-to-last O) and leaves ROQUE for next turn if needed.
>Kenji_Matsumoto: ACIMVXY 13A C.VI.Y +35 244
#note I did think about MYC here for like 10 seconds because ODE does leave me slightly sick given his range, but I don't think I can do it. Sim agrees.
>Mike_Frentz: EEHORSU O2 REHOUSE +107 357
>Kenji_Matsumoto: ADMMPRX A4 M.DRA +33 277
#note Sim says I need to just go all in and try MAX here. Probably. Honestly I have no idea.
>Mike_Frentz: EGIOSSY 12I YOGIS +37 394
>Kenji_Matsumoto: ALMNPUX 14E .AX +28 305
#note Actually a little bit of hope here if the AIS is in the bag. Mike can't be too enthusiastic about trying to block this without an I if there's an S in the bag, and sunlamp does score a lot. Even if the S is in the bag and I draw ULPANIM there's a shot, or so I thought.
>Mike_Frentz: AEGISTT 1G G.ATIEST +60 454
>Kenji_Matsumoto: EFLMNPU J9 FEL.N +10 315
#note Kenji: "How was I supposed to win this game?" Me: "You weren't!" Kenji also lamented this endgame, but it's actually best.
>Mike_Frentz: DEFT N9 FED +21 475
>Kenji_Matsumoto: MPU 15G UMP +30 345
