#player2 Eric_Goldstein Eric Goldstein
>Samuel_Kaplan: EFOTUVW 8G VOW +18 18
#note So before our game even started, Eric drew his tiles. I looked at my scoresheet and realized I was first. The first tile he saw was a blank! Good thing I caught the error, otherwise my comeback from the cellar could have been halted on the spot. Well, after I drew this clunky rack, odds are he could have redrawn something nice since I got this to deal with.
>Eric_Goldstein: AWY F7 YAW +19 19
#note I didn't think he had an S after this, otherwise he would have done WAY in this spot.
>Samuel_Kaplan: EEFORTU 9H FEU +18 36
#note Right idea, I think FOU is a little better to set up my R. Didn't spot that. #visionsmall
>Eric_Goldstein: AEFORSZ - +0 19
#note Not actual rack. Eric exchanged 3 tiles here.
>Samuel_Kaplan: BEOPRRT 10J PROB +24 60
#note I did not know 10B REBOP. This time I did see a play that sets up a hook that I have, but it wasn't the right time for it.
>Eric_Goldstein: BDEIRST N8 BESTRID +85 104
>Samuel_Kaplan: AEORSTX O8 OX +48 108
#note I would go on to miss the BESTRIDE hook, but this actually wins 4% more often than 15K OXTER, which is 71. Still, I needed to see that.
>Eric_Goldstein: IJNOU 12I JUNIO. +26 130
>Samuel_Kaplan: ??AERST 10B AERoSaT +77 185
#note Got lucky enough to pull both blanks off a 2 tile draw. Despite only missing out on only 2 points, BESTRIDE hook again! And I didn't even think of O11 ASTER keeping both blanks, which is a very interesting idea.
>Eric_Goldstein: DDTY C9 T.DDY +22 152
>Samuel_Kaplan: EFINNNR O13 FEN +26 211
#note BESTRIDE hook again!
>Eric_Goldstein: GI M10 .I.G +30 182
>Samuel_Kaplan: CEIINNR 12A CI.ER +22 233
#note Yea, I didn't feel that I12 (J)IN was necessary at this score. Eric will block that almost all the time. This looks fine to score as opposed to fish while I'm ahead.
>Eric_Goldstein: ILP A12 .LIP +24 206
>Samuel_Kaplan: AEEINNS B14 NE +12 245
>Eric_Goldstein: NOOZ 13G ZOON +36 242
#note And this is where the game could have fell apart. I hate it when I fall into a vicious cycle of being close to a bingo but my fishes don't work out. I was afraid to do 14G AE for only 15 because I didn't have a G.
>Samuel_Kaplan: AEEINOS 7I OE +10 255
#note I preferred this as I set up a lane for myself and keep the nice AEINS leave for potential -IER bingoes on Column D. It's unfortunate that I am stuck in this vicious cycle of being close to a bingo and missing on fishes. I just wasn't a fan of 14G AE just because other hooks are still unseen and I don't have a G.
>Eric_Goldstein: EHIL 6H ELHI +35 277
>Samuel_Kaplan: AAEHINS 14F HAE +27 282
#note This time, I figured 2 extra points over 14E AHA was fine and makes reparallels easier for me and harder for Eric. But it is annoying to not hit yet another fish.
>Eric_Goldstein: AALMR E3 ALARM +21 298
>Samuel_Kaplan: ACDINST H1 CNIDA. +33 315
#note 3B ANTACIDS. That's gettable. #findingsad
>Eric_Goldstein: LNU 4B NUL. +8 306
>Samuel_Kaplan: AAGISTV 15E VIGS +51 366
#note Clearly the best play to try outrunning. The leave of AAT is great for 2 reasons: the serious reason is if I draw the Q, I will be able to play it in several spots: G3 QAT, 5K QAT, and B2 QA(N)AT. Even picking the K is great for G3 KAT to block bingo lines if Eric does not hit a bingo immediately. And the joking reason: the leave of AAT reminds me of an infamous phony (AAT*) that Rafi Stern failed to notice in time in a game he played against Tasha Asberry, so shoutout to him!
>Eric_Goldstein: IQRTU 5K QUIRT +50 356
>Samuel_Kaplan: AAAKMTT G3 KAT +28 394
>Eric_Goldstein: EEEGOS 6B GOE. +9 365
>Samuel_Kaplan: AAMT 3A TAM +20 414
#note Eric had the right idea to block B2 MA(N)TA, so I settled for this.
>Eric_Goldstein: EES 15L SEE. +16 381
#note 2B SEE is 1 more for him. This one unfortunately wasn't as well played as it could have been. I am lucky that Eric couldn't draw an E for 2 turns for the BESTRIDE hook after he bingoed. 3-2 +217 and my ascent up the standings continues. Without winning this game, Eric pretty much clinches the tournament with a win in Round 6. But I'm thankfully right on his heels.
