Player 1
#player1 Jonathan_Lindh Jonathan Lindh
#player2 Jon_Shreve Jon Shreve
>Jonathan_Lindh: BISTUVW -BIUVW +0 0
#note 2024 Word Cup. Round 20.
>Jon_Shreve: EFIRX 8H REFIX +46 46
>Jonathan_Lindh: EFNOOST 7C EFTSOON +68 68
#note I spent a few minutes debating between EFTSOON and FETSOON. Looks like I chose correctly. EFTSOON is narrowly favored for its defense.
>Jon_Shreve: AELMNP K5 MAN.PLE +44 90
#note I held this for a little bit. It looks weird on the board but then I released.
>Jonathan_Lindh: ?AIKOYZ J4 YOK +40 108
#note Best.
>Jon_Shreve: EHOW 8A HOWE +44 134
>Jonathan_Lindh: ?AIRTUZ 11E AZURIT.s +82 190
#note I chose this bingo hoping Jon would miss the L front hook on AZURITES.
>Jon_Shreve: BDE 9G DEB +22 156
>Jonathan_Lindh: IINRTUU -IUU +0 190
#note Kept IN for REFIXING possibilities.
>Jon_Shreve: AADR H11 .ADAR +21 177
>Jonathan_Lindh: AINRTTY 12A YTTRIA +39 229
#note Best.
>Jon_Shreve: CDEINTU 15H .EINDUCT +89 266
#note Best.
>Jonathan_Lindh: ALNNOSS 12K SOLAN +26 255
#note A10 ANYONS is a tiny bit better by 2 points or so but SOLAN is a very solid 2nd. Jon held this play and then released.
>Jon_Shreve: AGW 13L WAG +26 292
>Jonathan_Lindh: ABENOSV 14J BAE +31 286
#note Best. BAE looks unconventional, but it takes out QI possibilities which would probably be instant death on this board.
>Jon_Shreve: ELP A12 .ELP +27 319
>Jonathan_Lindh: EINOOSV O6 VENISO. +30 316
#note I made the decision to go all in for the blank and kill the REFIXING possibility while scoring and killing the N and O columns. Quackle likes L7 OXO for 16 by a tiny bit over my play but I like my play better. The NO_ spot OXO creates gets blocked too much.
>Jon_Shreve: IM N11 M..I. +24 343
#note Jon would have blocked the NO_ spot with NOM in some way.
>Jonathan_Lindh: ?DEGORR I3 GOR +16 332
#note I made my first real mistake of this game and it's a big one. I miss both 4C DOGBERRY for 76 and 5E REGROOMED for 74. REGROOMED actually sims a little ahead of DOGBERRY which shocks me given the big L4 spot it gives back. Both bingos are 85-90% to win. Yeah, these are harder bingos, but I should be finding them. I checked the number of unseen A's 4 times before making this play. This one mistake in an otherwise almost perfect game probably cost me this one. At least GOR is one of the better non-bingo plays.
>Jon_Shreve: GI 13F GI. +19 362
>Jonathan_Lindh: ?DEEQRT 9N Q. +11 343
>Jon_Shreve: LUV F4 LUV. +15 377
#note Nice block by Jon. It seemed like I was involved in many of the Scrabble chess matches where I would be trying to open the board and a defensive minded Scrabble expert would be trying to close the board during this tournament.
>Jonathan_Lindh: ?DEEERT 7K .E +11 354
#note One of my best plays of the tournament. This play wins 78.18% of the time and the next best play wins 36.82%. The only way Jon can block this for any number of points is if he has the S, and I have a good chance of bingoing the next turn even if he blocks.
>Jon_Shreve: S 6J ..S +17 394
#note Extremely creative block by Jon.
>Jonathan_Lindh: ?DEENRT A3 TRENc.ED +62 416
#note I find my only bingo. TRENCHED wins 3 out of 8 times. Nothing else wins.
>Jon_Shreve: ACHIIJU H2 HAJ +45 439
#note HAJ is Jon's only win. If the H, the A, or the J were left in the bag, I win. In NWL23, I only win if the H or the A were left in the bag because JOY is the only spot for the J since JEW was taken out.
>Jonathan_Lindh: O 10A .O +5 421
#note J13 OBI and OH also score 5 points. Nothing wins.
>Jonathan_Lindh: (CUII) +12 433
#note Fantastic game. I think I played this perfectly other than the DOGBERRY/REGROOMED/GOR turn. Extremely high level Scrabble.
