>Samuel_Kaplan: AEHJNPR 8D JAPER +44 44
#note I worked very hard to get myself into 2nd place going into the most important game of the day. Now I need to beat Jamie by at least 56 points knowing that 3rd place was one win behind, but many spread points ahead. So I got off to a good start if I was looking to put pressure on Jamie early. But would it last?
>Jamie_McCune: AGNNOSY I2 NONGAYS +81 81
#note Very smart play making that dreaded right angle. Definitely worth it to sacrifice one point for long-term defense.
>Samuel_Kaplan: AHMNPRT H1 PAH +31 75
#note I did not see E6 PHARMA which blasts it open more, but 5 points wasn't worth giving up. So this play looks fine either way.
>Jamie_McCune: ACDII F5 ADI.IC +21 102
>Samuel_Kaplan: BMNNRTU E1 BRUNT +18 93
#note E2 NUMB is definitely better. I need the points and NRT is a great leave. #findingmedium
>Jamie_McCune: ?DEEOOV 10B DOVE.OtE +67 169
#note Nice find Jamie! This would be one of several impressive finds he had this game.
>Samuel_Kaplan: AEMNRTU G3 MU +18 111
#note Missing B8 UNDREAMT isn't going to help me win this game either.
>Jamie_McCune: EFZ 11I FEZ +35 204
#note It's only looking more bleak now...
>Samuel_Kaplan: AEENRRT 12J RAN +19 130
#note Time to get very desperate now and get more lines going.
>Jamie_McCune: AEX D2 AXE +35 239
#note Are you serious
>Samuel_Kaplan: EEORSTT M8 ROSETTE +70 200
#note No reason to not play this at M7. I need a bingo on Row 15 and I need one fast. There's no playing the waiting game now.
>Jamie_McCune: EIR D8 .I.ER +30 269
#note If he's going to find ways to score 30 with all 1-pointers, this will be over quickly.
>Samuel_Kaplan: AHIKMTY 8L K.AY +48 248
#note Good that I was able to score. But it's all for naught at this point.
>Jamie_McCune: BEILLTU 14G TULLIB.E +74 343
#note Jamie has been the better player in this game, and this is just further evidence of that. This is why he's been a tough player for a long time.
>Samuel_Kaplan: EHIMORT 15F HOM +38 286
#note Looks good, but I better draw a bingo fast. I can only keep up for so long with his onslaught.
>Jamie_McCune: CGINOSU -CGINOU +0 343
#note Not actual rack. Jamie exchanged 6 tiles.
>Samuel_Kaplan: AEEIORT I13 O.E +13 299
#note Looks fine.
>Jamie_McCune: ?AGGNOS O7 s.NAGOGS +74 417
#note WOW! That is impressive! I would not have seen that one or B6 hANG(D)OGS.
>Samuel_Kaplan: AEIRTVW J6 WE +31 330
#note I hated to do this, but I was in spread-cutting mode at this point. I just can't see any realistic chances of coming back with this ugly pool without doing this. The problem with E10 EW is Jamie just blocks Column B and Row 12 after it's obvious that I'm fishing.
>Jamie_McCune: CIILNSW -CIIW +0 417
#note Not acutal rack. Jamie exchanged 4 tiles this time.
>Samuel_Kaplan: AINRTVW K5 VAW +33 363
>Jamie_McCune: F E10 .F +20 437
>Samuel_Kaplan: IIINQRT J1 QI +18 381
#note I figured Jamie threw this back. But this game is pretty much over.
>Jamie_McCune: ILLSU 1J .UILLS +48 485
#note Give me a break over here lol. It's just one of those games where I wasn't stopping him no matter what.
>Samuel_Kaplan: CDIINRT C9 T.D +15 396
#note Holy crap 15B TRIC(HOME) allows me an out play of 15B DIN(AR)!
>Jamie_McCune: DEIOT 15K TED +21 506
>Samuel_Kaplan: CIINR 2C N..C +12 408
#note 5K VINIC would have been 2 more spread points. Was low on time.
>Jamie_McCune: IO 2N OI +10 516
#note Great game Jamie! While it is unfortunate that he had his highest score against me, he told me I had potential which was very classy of him. That meant a lot.
It was great seeing everyone and I wound up the bronze medalist with 4-3 +53 spread. As long as I can get better at situations where I have to decide if it's worth it to hang on to a power tile, I will get myself out of trouble earlier. Next Scrabble tournament is shaping up to be April 19-21 in Wilmington, DE!
