#note Somehow I didn't see the simple play of G6 WUZ 16 or I'd probably have played it. It wasn't valid before my hiatus so there are still some games where I don't notice it. My play looks to be the next best, but still 8 points behind.
>Liz_Gottlin: BCEHN E10 BENCH +28 54
>David_Weisberg: EEFINRW G10 WIFE +19 33
#note On this turn I deliberately did something a bit counterintuitive. 7H FEW 18 seems to be the standard play, but it felt to me like the board could get closed up quickly after that. I liked WIFE because, although it gives back a triple for 25-30 or so, longer term it seemed the board would be more open after WIFE. FEW wins in the sim by about 2 points over WIFE. D11 WE 19 falls in bwtween, about 1.5 behind FEW. I considered this but it seemed too bold, and could give a lot back and not give me much in return if I couldn't immediately bingo, and it could go either way since I was holding an F. Maybe FEW isn't as closed as I imagined, but I know Liz is a defensive-minded player, so that factored in as well.
>Liz_Gottlin: EIMPT H11 TEMPI +42 96
>David_Weisberg: EILNNRT H2 INTERN.L +59 92
#note The only bingo, but Quackle also notes 13C INCLEMENT or INCREMENT 28!
>Liz_Gottlin: OOOOO -OOOOO +0 96
#note Unknown rack
>David_Weisberg: EKMOSUX 3A MUSKOXE. +94 186
#note Unfortunately I still had to play the rest of the game after this and still possibly lose.
>Liz_Gottlin: EIRT A1 TI.ER +24 120
>David_Weisberg: HJQRSTY 15G Q. +11 197
#note The sim prefers J8 SHY 31 by a few points, or E2 JOYS 28, or even exchanging keeping RST, which are all debatable, but I had something else in mind besides getting rid of the Q.
>Liz_Gottlin: ILPU 4H .ULIP +14 134
>David_Weisberg: HIJRSTY 13E .H..ISTRY +40 237
#note I didn't expect to actually draw the I and was just doing the standard thing with QI, but I saw this beforehand, which made QI a done deal. After already getting down MUSKOXEN I couldn't believe lightning would strike twice. Once again, still no guarantee of victory.
>Liz_Gottlin: GIINSTU M4 SUITING +68 202
>David_Weisberg: AEEIJRT D1 JA.E +46 283
>Liz_Gottlin: NVY 8L V.NY +42 244
>David_Weisberg: EEIORTV J3 O.IVE +16 299
#note L11 VIREO scores 2 more with the same tiles, but it opens a triple. The most she could score through that is WOOFED for 39, but that would make the game pretty close. I'm not sure if I passed on VIREO or just missed it. It sims 3 points better than OLIVE. She still probably needs a bingo to win, so the O spot might not be that relevant. Without a bingo though, I don't see her scoring much without a spot like that, so I'll stick with OLIVE, given it does block the J column in case she can bingo hooking AZAN.
>Liz_Gottlin: GO 2D .GO +20 264
>David_Weisberg: ADEFORT N6 FO. +29 328
#note Big mistake in this close game, considering there were still 5 unseen A's. N6 FANO 32 sims 5 points better. I have a good chance to redraw an A anyway, but it also gives me one more shot at getting one of the blanks, while inhibiting (admittedly less likely) bingos from the Y down the O column. I also turn out to bingo 19% of the time after FANO vs. 16% after FON, I'm sure because of the increased turnover.
>Liz_Gottlin: DD K3 D.D +19 283
>David_Weisberg: AADEORT 5C ORA +22 350
#note Clearly best, scoring decently and shutting down the B column while resstricting the C column. With this pool though, OVER- words aren't unlikely, but there wasn't much else I could do to address this area.
>Liz_Gottlin: AD D11 DA +13 296
>David_Weisberg: ABDEERT 14B BAT.E +31 381
#note Sims best. I could block more completely with 12C BAD or BED 17, but it makes it harder to outrun any bingo she might get from the Y.
>Liz_Gottlin: LO 1F LO +12 308
>David_Weisberg: ADEEORW 15A WADE +37 418
#note With two blanks still unseen, both were overwhelmingly likely to be on Liz's rack. I calculated that WADE could survive any bingo from the Y, but I should also have calculated that 14M OWE 17 would beat any hypothetical bingo on the C column, though with a max score of 73 from one of those, OWE only wins by 5 points (398-393). I may have been a low on time trying to guarantee I wouldn't throw this one away, and also wanted to have my cake and eat it too with something like 14M ORE 17, threatening WADE or AWED next turn if she doesn't bingo. It's hard to be sure, especially under time pressure, whether your opponent can bingo even on an overlap with both blanks, so I chose what I knew right away would win, taking the points with WADE to outrun. It turns out that if I blocked her bingos starting with Y, her only possible bingo would have been B7 SPACELAB 58.
>Liz_Gottlin: ??AELRS O8 .EARLieS +80 388
#note The only bingo.
