#note Wellington Janniversary Round 5
>Chris_Tallman: AADKLOS 11C KOALAS +33 33
#note I debated KOALAS (33) versus KOALA/JA for 25 - I felt that the OK spot beside KOALA was a deciding factor since it'd give nothing back to me, whereas underlaps of KOALAS give re-parallels, and that the D slightly negatively affected the S leave so as to render it worth a bit less than the usual 8-10 points. The sim is liking the fishier KOA (20) keeping ADLS slightly though.
>Val_Mills: IPZ 12B ZIP +42 66
>Chris_Tallman: DEGIILN 13D ELIDING +67 100
#note Spending my S doesn't cost me this time.
>Val_Mills: HO B12 .HO +30 96
>Chris_Tallman: DGIMPSY A14 MY +25 125
#note I inferred a pretty strong rack after ZHO, and was worried about the high scoring easy 7's lane PIGGY (26) would create, even though it's clearly the best equity play. I decided to block ZHOS and still score comparatively at the cost of an awkward leave - I think the merit of the play depends on whether my read on Val's range is correct.
>Val_Mills: DEEILST 9H .ELISTED +61 157
>Chris_Tallman: DEFGIPS 14D DIF +37 162
#note Did not know PIGFEEDS despite Tara's favourite meat being pork, and mine being pork belly, and studying PIGMEAT earlier, should've done pattern match on PIG heh. I chickened out on FIDGED too though, which ended up really costing me.
>Val_Mills: ?AACETU O5 eCAU.ATE +83 240
#note I was thinking at the time that Val could've made the blank an A for ACAUDATE to not open the bingo line to the E - but I didn't see the bullet I dodged - ADUNCATE triple-triple for 167!
>Chris_Tallman: EGPRSUY N8 G.Y +31 193
#note I debated tacking on -ER for GEYER (37) for the extra points, but the sim likes GEY over that by a wide margin, I'm happy to see.
>Val_Mills: EOX 8J EXO +25 265
>Chris_Tallman: EGPRRSU 5K PURG. +14 207
#note I was trying to open this quadrant, but the lane atop PURGE is pretty hard to hit. The sim is liking PURGE for 2 more from the lower E of ECAUDATE, leaving the top E bingo line alone - I felt that Val could use that to block the IFS lane though. SPURGE (33) plays with IFS, but I think being down 72, I need to play more for a bingo. A tough position, I'm not sure what's right.
>Val_Mills: AM 10H .AM +25 290
>Chris_Tallman: AENORSV K5 .RO..ES +39 246
#note I hated spending my bingo tiles, but felt I needed to score to stay in range for a comeback.
>Val_Mills: ITU L11 TUI +8 298
#note I didn't love seeing this, it really looks like Val's keeping a strong leave with either an S or a blank.
>Chris_Tallman: AENRUVV I4 VENA +18 264
#note Not looking good - doing the best I can to open new lines, but I'm forced to keep a poor RUV leave. A play like UVA leaves better, but would allow even a 3 point block of the IFS line with a play from the LI beside it to become an option for Val.
>Val_Mills: BLO 5F LOB. +6 304
#note I'm not sure 8's through V or E are easier to hit than the 7's lanse this creates, but I think Val's also fishing for a bingo or her own so maybe this is more of an opening play to ensure she has 2 spots.
>Chris_Tallman: ENORUV L2 VRO. +14 278
#note Partial rack - still trying to open something, though definitely a marginal line through the V.
>Val_Mills: ?EEINSW 15F SWEEINg +83 387
>Val_Mills: ENRW (challenge) +5 392
#note As suspected, this is why Val was unafraid of the IFS spot. I gave it the nickel just in case since I have no way back if it's good.
>Chris_Tallman: ACHNRTU 14H RAH +35 313
>Val_Mills: ENRW 4D WREN +18 410
>Chris_Tallman: ACINOTU E1 CAI. +6 319
#note WREN blocked CAUTION and AUCTION, though neither of those wins anyway. I decide to fish for NOTTURNI to the I in JIRDS - maybe I can somehow bingo out with that and score enough to win, particularly if Val has to dump the Q for few points? CAIR is phony, but I didn't think a 6 point word opening a triple would get challenged.
>Val_Mills: EENOQTT 2D Q.T +14 424
#note If I'd drawn NOTTURNI, I'd still lose to this play by 8 points - down 105, NOTTURNI is 77, then I'd get 20 points from her rack. I had less than a minute left though so I didn't calculate it.
>Chris_Tallman: ABFNOTU 1E .ABOT +29 348
#note Another phony, leaving FUNG to go out.
