>Chris_Tallman: IJLMTTX 8G MIXT +26 26
#note Whangarei Round 24
>Cathy_Casey: DENO 7F NODE +25 25
>Chris_Tallman: AJKLLRT E6 JARL +17 43
#note I debated between this, JARK (21), KART/KEX (24), TALK/TEX (talk/text lol) (20) - a few options, but no good ones. I wanted to unduplicate the L's and figured that was worth sacrificing a few points over the other plays - this is also probably the best of the options for scoring defense too, notwithstanding the big hook that was missed all game...
>Cathy_Casey: ADO 9G ADO +28 53
>Chris_Tallman: AAIKLTZ 8A LAZA. +45 88
>Cathy_Casey: OR 6E .OR +22 75
>Chris_Tallman: IIIKPTV B5 KII.T +11 99
#note I think I figured this was an alternate spellling for KYAT - it's not, oops. No hold though. PAIK (20) seems like a fine play - I was committed to getting rid of 2 I's without opening much...
>Cathy_Casey: E C8 .E +15 90
#note Both of us were blind to the MIXTE hook all game - that's going to change the analysis! That must be why the sim preferred JILT on turn 1...
>Chris_Tallman: IPPTUVY C3 PUY +25 124
#note Didn't want to give away good floaters with TIVY or the T hook with IVY... thinking that the board is closed given I'm not seeing MIXTE - but it sort of is in practice since Cathy doesn't see it either.
>Cathy_Casey: EFN D2 FEN +20 110
>Chris_Tallman: AIIPTUV B1 VIA +17 141
#note Debated VIA vs UVA - didn't want to let Cathy dump higher point consonants through the U of UVA, so went with this. Exchanges are simming just below those two options - tough racks so far.
>Cathy_Casey: ?DELNST 10I SLaNTED +72 182
>Cathy_Casey: ?DELNST -- -72 110
#note I challenge this off, but see that Cathy has NESTLED/EXON and figure she's likely to find it next turn.
>Chris_Tallman: EIPSTUU -PUU +0 141
#note I exchange as I can't do anything about NESTLED (notwithstanding MIXTE) except try to counter-bingo through it with my IEST leave.
>Cathy_Casey: ?DELNST 10C DES +29 139
>Cathy_Casey: ?DELNST -- -29 110
#note I draw EEINOST, which triple-triples through NESTLED with SIDENOTE, but Cathy can't find it this turn - I wonder in these situations if players should be able to just tell their opponents that they have bingoes - would create some mindgames!
>Chris_Tallman: EEINOST 1A E.O +18 159
#note I could consider a play like SONE underlapping ADO, even though it includes the phony ROMAS, to try to stop the bingoes, but I decide to keep with my strategy of trying to counterbingo with my very strong EINST leave.
>Cathy_Casey: ?DELNST 3B ...D +7 117
#note I no longer have 8's through NESTLED, but luckily (this time) it doesn't come down. I still don't really feel like I have much of an advantage against Cathy's rack despite my extra turns and lead as the game has sort of taken a bizarre midway hiatus.
>Chris_Tallman: EINSTTY 10B SNY +32 191
#note I saw TENSITY but of course not the MIXTE hook. Failing that, I was considering the play I made versus NYS/JARLS for 30. I think I took the 2 extra points because I figured it was fruitless to try to stop Cathy bingoing forever given her rack, but NYS forces her to bingo from EXON, which would score less and open the triple line for me to respond, and she might not hit a bingo starting with N (I still remember in a youtube video from years ago, Matt Canik's line that NOTHING starts with N) right away which would result in another fishing turn where I'd get further ahead. SNY was a big mistake on at least 3 levels (KIAATS*, MIXTE, and the tactics).
>Cathy_Casey: ?ELNRST 11C SaLTERN +79 196
#note I felt dumb immediately - she'd have had to find NESTLER if i'd played NYS, and she wasn't finding NESTLED. One of those 'why the **** did I play that' moments.
>Chris_Tallman: CEEGITT H11 .ECIT +24 215
#note I didn't want to keep GT together and considered GIE under the ALT of SALTERN for 24, but decided to unduplicate my T's and play a bit more of a scoring-defensive play in RECIT as GIE allows underlaps with YAGI that score decently. The sim prefers GIE by a few points though.
>Cathy_Casey: AP 12D PA +24 220
>Chris_Tallman: CEGGNOT 13H .OGENT +20 235
#note I was running low on time; I was kind of hoping the Cathy would try to hook an S on this given her previous phonies, but the CG leave is tough to swallow. The sim is liking EGG in the very top corner, though it assumes I see MIXTE and so rates fishy plays a bit higher.
>Cathy_Casey: GIINRSU L8 RUINI.GS +72 292
>Cathy_Casey: ABH (challenge) +5 297
#note Instead, I give her a spot to play a bingo that was previously homeless. I gave it 5 although I was pretty sure it was valid. Cathy did a fistpump when it came back good, lol.
>Chris_Tallman: CEEFGIV M7 FEG +20 255
#note I liked that FEG made parallel blocking plays next to it more risky, as they'd open the triple lane.
>Cathy_Casey: ABH N6 BAH +25 322
#note I didn't expect a non-blocking play there, however - very risky choice from Cathy.
>Chris_Tallman: CEEIOSV O4 EVOES +58 313
#note The phony parade continues - EVOE doesn't take an S. I only had a few minutes left and slapped this down right away after BAH hit the board, which may have looked confident, as I wasn't held here. A cool disconnected 9 was available - COVETISES (67) at the bottom (!), but it might not have been "better" since Cathy may have played BAH holding the blank to hit the REHS spot hard next turn.
>Cathy_Casey: OQTU 4K QUOT. +28 350
#note I was happy to see the big QI underlap spot - TOQUE (Canadian word!) in the same spot avoids giving that up, but Cathy was also running out of time.
>Chris_Tallman: ACDEIMR 5I CRIME +46 359
#note I did not see DERMATIC through the T, though I looked there and debated MICRATED* and MATRICED* before wisely rejecting both as phony. DERMATIC is in the 4000's probabililty range, which means I saw it in study, but time pressure and a nice 46 point backup play prevented me from seeing it.
>Cathy_Casey: ?EHIORU 15L .HIE +21 371
>Cathy_Casey: ?EHIORU -- -21 350
#note Cathy looked for a while for bingoes through the T, while I figured I'd lost after drawing WW and failing to find a good out-in-two sequence on her time with less than a minute on my clock. Her only options were 2 disconnected 9's - but she didn't need them - any decent play that scored and let her go out next turn would win. I got a huge break though...
>Chris_Tallman: AABDLWW 15L .WAB +27 386
>Cathy_Casey: ?EHIORU 14N HO +24 374
>Chris_Tallman: ADLW N1 WAD. +16 402
#note I wasn't 100% on WAID, didn't want to phony and lose after all that.
>Cathy_Casey: ?EIRU O1 ER +23 397
>Chris_Tallman: L L3 L.. +5 407
#note One of the more absurd games I've played - I somehow kept my winning streak alive. If you know the final standings, I needed this game too.
>Chris_Tallman: (?IU) +4 411
