>Mary_Curtis: ABGY 8G GABY +20 20
#note Whangarei Round 17
>Chris_Tallman: EFILNOP 9F FINO +20 20
#note The sim pretty clearly is preferring OF/OB/FY - EILNP is good enough I suppose, and OF is much better scoring defense than FINO. I looked a few minutes for bingoes as well (nothing here).
>Mary_Curtis: AV G6 VA.. +9 29
>Chris_Tallman: CELLOPY 10B COLLY +40 60
>Chris_Tallman: EEINNPW (challenge) +5 65
#note Pretty lucky draw of the remaining Y after setting up the spot. Wasn't 100% on COLLY so I was happy when it came back good on the challenge.
>Mary_Curtis: AJ 9C JA +36 65
>Chris_Tallman: EEINNPW 10I PWN +23 88
#note Didn't love the leave, but it has at least a chance to turn into a bingo, unlike PENN after WALIE, and this scores 7 more and is much more defensive than WEN which keeps PINE.
>Mary_Curtis: UZ E10 .UZ +24 89
>Chris_Tallman: AEEINUU 12D A.INE +30 118
#note Happy to see LUZ come down to let me score 30 from this rack.
>Mary_Curtis: IMT H12 .MIT +18 107
>Chris_Tallman: AELTUUX 11J EAUX +31 149
#note Liked this over TUX below AZINE since there are no S hooks on the board after it, despite the poor LTU leave.
>Mary_Curtis: AEMS M9 MA.ES +34 141
#note She spent a while here, so I figured she didn't have another S.
>Chris_Tallman: ?ELOTTU L3 cULOTTE +68 217
#note I didn't see TROUTLET (74), but I'm happy I kept looking and saw this after seeing TOLUATE, as this is better defensively.
>Mary_Curtis: ?EQRSTU N4 ReQUEST +96 237
#note Was less happy after this. In for another tough one.
>Chris_Tallman: ADEINOV 15D DONA.IVE +64 281
#note After regrouping mentally, I looked at playing VINED (35) and for a bit for parallels to REQUEST using QI. I then looked at the T in the triple line, saw DONATIVE, and congratulated myself on not just playing something in the top right. I never looked through the blank C or I'd have seen VOIDANCE (78). I'm still happy I bingoed here though, I wouldn't always look after a big blow like that.
>Mary_Curtis: ART J5 TRA. +9 246
#note Didn't really expect a fishy S setup this turn, but it's a nice idea to make me deal with another threat.
>Chris_Tallman: DEFGHNS 12L H.ED +30 311
#note There's no good way for me to block STRAY, so I decide to just score. HEND is much better to retain a vowel, but I wasn't 100% on it and didn't want to phony. I figured I could hit the triple line beside REQUEST hard with an I draw (FIGS or FIND) after HEED which would keep me ahead after a STRAY bingo.
>Mary_Curtis: HISW O5 WISH +62 308
#note I got my I draw, but not my wish, ouch.
>Chris_Tallman: DEFGINS O12 .ING +18 329
#note WISH did use the last S other than mine, so STRAY is mine now. The sim is liking DEFI (22) above DONATIVE, which keeps INGS for that spot. I wanted to block the easy 24/27 point spot from the D and retain my F to score (especially underneath a play on the 14 line at the bottom left), not wanting to rely on bingoing.
>Mary_Curtis: ELO 6E LO.E +9 317
#note Happy to see 9 points, but now I'm unsure what to do - threats of a 6 to the E and hooks to LOVE to bingo or score a bunch.
>Chris_Tallman: ADEFRST H1 STRAF. +30 359
#note The sim is really liking OF/FA under the O of LOVE - keeping ADERST to counter-bingo against a big play up top I suppose. I saw the B, C, K, P, G in the bag and figured it'd be unlikely that Mary could bingo even if I opened things up, so I decided to take my lead now and hope she didn't have anything.
>Mary_Curtis: KOOR B10 .ROOK +22 339
#note Seems like I was right, the K tripped her up.
>Chris_Tallman: BDEEGPR D2 REPEG +25 384
#note Looked for a blocking play - didn't want to play something as low scoring as BEEPS, since Mary has the spot beside CROOK making OK to hit back with. I decided REPEG blocked as well as I could and scored enough to outrun if she can't bingo.
>Mary_Curtis: CDEIINR 3A CRI.D +16 355
#note I blocked REINDICT/INDIRECT as it happens. Mary said she wanted to do this when I blocked it.
>Chris_Tallman: BDEIO A3 .EBOID +36 420
#note I may lose if this is no good and I was 99.5% sure, but decided to go for it; in the past I'd have made some other play, but I'm trying to play a bit less scared these days.
