>Chris_Tallman: ?FKLORT -- -84 0
#note Whangarei Round 15
>Margie_Hurly: ABB 8F ABB +14 14
>Chris_Tallman: ?FKLORT 7C FOLK +21 21
#note Margie gave me 2 bingoes, but I didn't know either (13k and 22k probability, FORKTAIL and FLATWORK). KRAFT however looks much better than my play as it doesn't give back the big spot underneath the FO to the triple. I think I was rattled after FORKLET* came off the board.
>Margie_Hurly: EPY 6B YEP +25 39
>Chris_Tallman: ?EENRTU 5C TUREENs +73 94
#note Played this on purpose over BRUNETTE (80) as I really liked its defensive merit, especially scoring defense.
>Margie_Hurly: CE G3 CE. +8 47
#note Case in point.
>Chris_Tallman: IIIRRTU 3B URITI. +16 110
#note Had some doubt about URITIC (phony), but figured it wouldn't get challenged, being only 16 points. It also sets up the AURITIC hook, which is umm... also phony, heh.
>Margie_Hurly: EW 9F WE +21 68
>Chris_Tallman: INOPRST 10G TROPINS +70 180
#note Wouldn't have had a bingo this turn if I'd played IRITIC :)
>Margie_Hurly: ?EGLNOW M3 GOWNLEs. +74 142
#note Margie put down LOWERING double double for 94, then picked it up and said something about not wanting to set up the hotspot beside the O. Holding the Z, that was kind of annoying. She then lays this down (which also creates big hotspots). I hold and eventually release. This might be the only phony I let go the whole tournament (we'll see when I look at the rest of the games) - a weird sequence of events.
>Chris_Tallman: AIIOUYZ L8 ZI. +44 224
#note I was debating between scoring 54 now with AZO or getting rid of the duplicate I's with ZIN. ZIN doesn't really block the triple scoring spot as easy 40 point plays to the ZE- are still possible, but the options sim closely. The best play though, does neither of those things and holds the Z - KAWAII making ATROPINS for 27 - would've been sick to find that!
>Margie_Hurly: IN 8L ..IN +39 181
>Chris_Tallman: AAIOTUY L2 AUTO +20 244
#note I almost think I recorded the wrong rack - but this makes sense, and I remember thinking about setting up YOW with this - but I had the simple YOU for 29 in the same spot. Bizarre choice by me - I also saw but chickened out of KAWAU/ATROPINS.
>Margie_Hurly: OVX K5 VOX +44 225
#note How's that to punish my poor play last turn?
>Chris_Tallman: AAIRVY J6 YAR +36 280
#note Partial racks for much of the rest of the game - apologies - time pressure. I didn't see FOLKY/YBET for 32, which nicely shuts down the best bingo line, though I'd still likely play YAR to take the easy scoring spot next to VOX.
>Margie_Hurly: GS L8 ...GS +30 255
>Chris_Tallman: AGIRV A1 GRAV +45 325
#note Partial rack. I decide to go for the AURITIC* hook. Held but luckily released - pivotal turn in the game.
>Margie_Hurly: JL I9 J.L +18 273
>Chris_Tallman: ACEIOSU 12E SAUCE +21 346
#note I remember being annoyed that Margie played the L but not in open space for EUSOCIAL. I'm still chickening out of KAWAU, which now seems like the clear best play. I decide to go hard defense mode and burn my S to best obstruct the easiest lane to hit, and score a bit to stay about a bingo ahead, but I think this is a bit too extreme - KAWA/ATROPINS scores 25 and keeps decently to respond to a potential bingo from Margie, whereas my rack after SAUCE can turn ugly with the IO leave.
>Margie_Hurly: HIT H12 .HIT +27 300
>Chris_Tallman: DIIMO 13B IDIOM +22 368
#note Partial rack. I wanted to do something about some of the bingo lines, but felt I needed to score to stay ahead in case of a 60-65 pointer.
>Margie_Hurly: Q F2 Q. +31 331
#note Blocks the top, but didn't like seeing it as now a subsequent bingo would put Margie ahead.
>Chris_Tallman: AEEHNOR 15C HORNE. +10 378
#note I still really wanted to do something about at least one of the floaters. I lay down HERIONE* making SOH for 30ish, which looks to block the bottom and keep me ahead just enough to outrun 60 point bingoes through the still-open N, but then notice the misspelling and pick the play up. I have under 2 minutes left at this point, and end up making a blocking play that scores just 10 and doesn't fully block the I in CHIT. Definitely panic mode; I needed to use my time better earlier in the game.
>Margie_Hurly: AEIMOST O5 MOA.IEST +61 392
>Margie_Hurly: AEIMOST -- -61 331
#note The game would still be close if she played any of the 4 valid bingoes through the N, but still a big lucky break for me.
>Chris_Tallman: AADEEFL O5 FAE.A +8 386
>Chris_Tallman: ADDEL (challenge) +5 391
#note Spent a bit more time trying to find a better block than this - maybe my hesitation elicited the challenge.
>Margie_Hurly: AEIMOST 7I M.. +15 346
>Chris_Tallman: ADDEL J10 .ADDLE +23 414
#note My clock kept running as we went up to the challenge computer for the FAENA challenge, and was now 12 seconds over time. We agreed that I should have 10 seconds left, but it took me all 10 to lay this down and count the score, so I ended up over time for real.
>Margie_Hurly: ADEINST 15J .ASTED +24 370
>Chris_Tallman: EO 14N OE +11 425
#note Phonies flying everywhere this game...
>Chris_Tallman: (IN) +4 429
