>Val_Mills: ADEHTW H6 THAWED +26 26
#note Whangarei Round 10
>Chris_Tallman: ?DFQUVZ -DFV +0 0
#note Should've exchanged the QU as well, a bit too greedy going for big QU play, big Z play, then bingo.
>Val_Mills: EEIX 11E EXI.E +26 52
>Val_Mills: EEIX -- -26 26
#note Lucky break but now I have to consider not giving up X spots the next few turns.
>Chris_Tallman: ?DQRRUZ 10H .RR +5 5
#note Weird turn, the sim likes burning the blank for QUERY for 33. I didn't want to create the S hook with QUAD as RRZ? will still be slow to bingo despite the blank, and I'm blocking DEXIE. It is a risk scoring 5 and keeping this clunk, but it's not simming too badly. Still hoping for biq Q play, big Z play, bingo.
>Val_Mills: AEEIX 9G A.EE +14 40
#note I wish she'd played AXITE through the T is THAWED (28) given my hidden Z, but perhaps Val is blocking all the S hooks (AWEES no good) given after my ex 3 and ERR it looks like I'm bingo-prone.
>Chris_Tallman: ?ADEQUZ 6F QA. +32 37
#note I didn't want to play QUEER (34) given I don't have an I nor an N or S to reoverlap QI/XI, but I should have played it anyway, 2 more points and getting rid of the U is worth it, simming decently better than QAT.
>Val_Mills: EEN 11H .ENE +16 56
>Chris_Tallman: ?ADEEUZ 8G Z. +22 59
#note Hated dumping the Z for 22 - even though I can bingo quickly if I draw a consonant, a play like EAU/UH for 10 points, or even HUE (7) setting up the Z (given Val still has the X and won't bingo from the hook) is probably what I should have done.
>Val_Mills: EILSX L11 SILEX +46 102
#note Don't have to worry about the X anymore.
>Chris_Tallman: ?ADEEOU 15K E.UDE +39 98
#note Passed up AUREOLED (68) on purpose, which the sim agrees with. The board is still quite bad for scoring, so my eventual blank bingo will have a bigger impact vs allowing a response using the triple lane through the X.
>Val_Mills: KNW 12K W.NK +16 118
#note She could have used her only S for SILEX given it scored 46, but still pretty likely she has one with this play.
>Chris_Tallman: AEILOUU 7C EUOI +16 114
#note Somehow missed LUAU under WINK - the pressure of a tough Day 1 must have really been getting to me.
>Val_Mills: AGNR 8A RANG +28 146
#note Escaped disaster - no huge play hooking WINKS from Val.
>Chris_Tallman: ?AACLOU N9 CAU. +12 126
#note Looked through the R for a few minutes - and missed the 3 bingoes available, though all are 15k+ probability - might have found VACUOLAR with a better mindset though. I then decided to take out the WINK spot, while keeping ALO? to hit the R next turn or maybe get a 7 with AWEEL.
>Val_Mills: BIN 14K B.NI +24 170
>Chris_Tallman: ?AHLOTY O3 ALiYOTH +96 222
#note Found and played this instantly, though while Val was thinking, I was trying to remember if ALIYOTS* was good or if ALIYA was the only plural.
>Val_Mills: AIJ M7 JAI +28 198
#note I didn't mind seeing this, shutting down the best 7's lane with my newfound lead.
>Chris_Tallman: ALORRSY 6A LORY +19 241
#note Was debating between hard defense in heavily obstructing the floating R with LORY or taking 32 points with RYA/WINKY. It seemed like maybe too big a sacrifice, except, well, WINKY* is phony! Lucky break that I decided on the defense route.
>Val_Mills: MO N5 OM +24 222
>Chris_Tallman: ACIIRST 9B ITA +19 260
#note I wanted to make a play that blocked the R completely and didn't create a hook for 7's on the E column, but didn't find one (none available).
>Val_Mills: GOPR M2 GORP +18 240
>Chris_Tallman: CFIRSVV 3J VIV. +10 270
#note I couldn't stomach the CVV leave with FRIGS (34), or the triple line spot it opens. VIVA to the A in QAT scores 4 more and doesn't open the floating I, but I felt those lines would be harder to block long term than this placement of VIVO.
>Val_Mills: MU 10A UM +21 261
>Chris_Tallman: CDFFRS K2 D.FF +22 292
#note Partial rack, but I remember I had a 7th consonant.
>Val_Mills: AO J2 A.O +18 279
#note Luckily for me, she missed 11 more points on the other side of DIFF.
>Chris_Tallman: BCGINRS 10D SIC +20 312
#note The best I can do to score a bit and block the bingo line. I remember briefly considering SCRIB* as I really wanted to get rid of more consonants...
>Val_Mills: DIOT E10 .DIOT +12 291
#note Last ditch attempt to open a line, should be fairly trivial to block...
>Chris_Tallman: BGNPRST 13C PR.NG +20 332
#note Except I couldn't draw any vowels :( The only way to block the S hook, partially, is to play ST for 2 points, which I considered, but that only put me up 22 (had underscored myself by 1 earlier), abnd with my horrible leave I felt I'd lose even if Val doesn't bingo with that. So I scored enough to win vs non-bingoes, blocked the floaters, and hoped for the best.
>Val_Mills: ?EINOST 15C NOsIEST +77 368
#note I drew EE out of the bag after PRONG - if I got one I'd have been able to block (though it is possible Val could still get a 9 after that). Really frustrating loss getting choked by consos for the rest of the game after ITA. This put me 6-4 after day 1, and with Lawson at 9-1, I knew I couldn't afford many more losses.
