#player1 Arie_Sinke Arie Sinke
#player2 Jonathan_Lindh Jonathan Lindh
>Arie_Sinke: BEHIRRS 8D HIRER +24 24
#note Quackle thinks I should be using a fishier strategy. RIB is the sim winner, by a pretty significant margin.
>Jonathan_Lindh: DELNPSZ 7C ZEP +33 33
#note G7 ZEP for 27 is surprisingly best here.
>Arie_Sinke: ABNRRSS 7G BARN +19 43
#note This is probably best.
>Jonathan_Lindh: DEHILNS 9G DEL +18 51
#note D6 HEH and E5 LIPIDES are best.
>Arie_Sinke: AAILRSS 10G SAIL +19 62
#note This is probably best.
>Jonathan_Lindh: ?HILNST K1 pLINTHS +75 126
#note Best. Loved this find.
>Arie_Sinke: AEOOQRS -OOQ +0 62
#note This is probably best.
>Jonathan_Lindh: ?ADITUW 1H WAU. +18 144
>Jonathan_Lindh: ?ADITUW -- -18 126
#note Huge choke. Didn't want to play WUZ because of the X bomb threats. I eventually played it.
>Arie_Sinke: AEGNRSV E5 VA..NG +24 86
#note This is probably best. I don't really like giving up 8 points to keep an N with VIGA 3J.
>Jonathan_Lindh: ?ADITUW C5 WU. +15 141
>Arie_Sinke: AEOORSU 6I OO. +14 100
#note This is okay. Quackle suggests that exchanging OOU is a viable alternative, but this is probably still a bit better. The U hurts my rack, but not quite by 14 points.
>Jonathan_Lindh: ?ADITTU 1K .UT +3 144
#note Tricky miss of 5G ATTITUDE for 64. I thought OOH blocked that lane, but apparently not. Even if I find ATTITUDE, Arie is bingoing and would have had SAUNTER/ATTITUDES for even more.
>Arie_Sinke: AENRSTU 3G URAN.TES +70 170
#note I thought this would be more defensive than SAUNTER with Jon apparently on the verge of bingoing.
>Jonathan_Lindh: ?ADIOTY N3 .ODAlITY +71 215
#note This is a good play, but the DAcOITY/DAkOITY plays at 11I for 76 are best.
>Arie_Sinke: AFINOOW O8 FOO +40 210
#note Looks best.
>Jonathan_Lindh: AABGOTU H1 GA.B +30 245
#note Or TURBO in the same spot.
>Arie_Sinke: AEINPWX B4 WAX +59 269
#note I'm surprised that this isn't the sim winner - PAX instead does well, possibly because it makes A1 harder to hit. APEX also does well, which makes no sense.
>Jonathan_Lindh: AEIOTUV A1 UVEA +30 275
>Arie_Sinke: AEGINPR 2A .APING +32 301
#note This looks best. Rare opportunity to play VAPING twice in one game.
>Jonathan_Lindh: FIIIMOT 3C IF +23 298
>Arie_Sinke: EEEQR -EEQ +0 301
#note Failed to record my rack here, and recording the game a month later I don't remember what I had. I suspect that exchanging was an error but I can't be sure.
>Jonathan_Lindh: EIIMMOT O4 MOM +24 322
#note 4K NOMOI for 24.
>Arie_Sinke: EIKNOOR 1D KI +28 329
#note I didn't see ENOKI 11H for 28, which looks like a slight improvemet. The nice thing about KI is that it plays fewer tiles to avoid drawing the Q or a multiplicity of Es, but ENOOR is generally a leave without much scoring potential and I can fall behind making too many low scoring plays.
>Jonathan_Lindh: CEEIILT 11I TIE +11 333
#note 11H ETIC for 22.
>Arie_Sinke: ENOORRT 12H RETRO +21 350
#note Tough position. Quackle loves my play. I need to keep scoring and obstruct any bingo that Jon may be setting up for himself, but I'm afraid that playing five tiles makes me more vulnerable to drawing the Q. Whoever draws the Q probably loses, but if I score close to zero I can still lose even if I don't draw the Q if he has a good scoring play. I have no idea if this is right, and I kind of feel like some sort of dinky two tile play may be called for here.
>Jonathan_Lindh: CEEILQY 13L YE +15 348
#note Whoever drew the Q here was probably sunk.
>Arie_Sinke: CEEJNOS E5 ......S +26 376
>Arie_Sinke: CEEJNOS -- -26 350
#note With one in the bag, if I draw the Q I'm guaranteed to lose. I can't win by passing if the Q is in the bag, as the value of my tiles is 16 and the value of CDDEEIL is only 11, and I'm up by 2, so ending the game with a 6 pass will result in a 3 point loss for me. I decide to play a phoney in the hopes that if the Q is in the bag, Jon will be unable to resist challenging off my phoney and then emptying the bag and drawing the Q himself. Unfortunately, this is probably the wrong phoney to play, as it sets up QIS.
>Jonathan_Lindh: CDEEILQ 10C LE. +4 352
#note Unsure of what to do. Trying to set up a space for my Q.
>Arie_Sinke: CEEJNOS 10B C... +13 363
#note I thought that blocking QI would be of ultimate importance, but the sim winning play, which I didn't see, is REC H12, for fairly obvious reasons.
>Jonathan_Lindh: CDDEIQ H12 .ICE +18 370
#note At some point around here, I hit my clock with 5 seconds left. To my horror when I looked back up, the clock was still ticking and was at -6 second or so. Clock did not register, called Kieran over and he ruled I was responsible for making sure the clock registered (this is the correct ruling) and it was Arie's call whether or not to give me back the time. Arie needed the spread so he did not. If you had to pick a game for this to happen in, it would probably be this one since I wasn't winning anyway.
>Arie_Sinke: EEJNOS 14F SE. +7 370
#note Terrible block - the S is still valuable to me for KIFS; I should play ONCE 14F instead. If I recall correctly, I was afraid that I would inadvertantly stick myself with the J and was low on time, so I went with something that I knew gave me multiple spots for my J. I don't think I generated ONCE, only ECO.
>Jonathan_Lindh: DDQ G14 .D +6 376
#note Ooh RETROD!
>Arie_Sinke: EJNO 6M J.. +12 382
>Jonathan_Lindh: DQ 8M D.. +7 383
#note Still RETROD.
>Arie_Sinke: ENO N13 NE +10 392
#note I do better playing off my three tiles one at a time - but unfortunately I had only 30 seconds to figure this out. Jon went 1 minute over and lost 10 points.
>Jonathan_Lindh: Q - +0 383
#note Final score recorded as 420-373 because I went 55 seconds over time. This was my only game all weekend where I went over time.
