#note This isn't bad, but ZOUAVE D4 is totally the play here. (-2)

#note Another XYSTOI-like play. This doesn't sim so well but it turns out to be a game-winning move, as it blocks Ian's bingo, and builds toward a closed board. I saw sim-winner LICIT H1 and second-place LYRIC 11G, but both of those plays make it harder to close the lanes. Any play on row 13 hooking LI will open another lane on Row 14. After ROILY, however, a play on row 11 or 12 will close whatever's left, leaving only Row 4. (-16.5?)

#note The 11H placement sims best, but I'm always playing this. Close the lanes down, make him open new ones for me. (-3?)

#note I should have thought a little harder about this. I didn't want to play SNIfFERS O8, which allows big comeback bingos on Row 15. Row 14 seemed like the place to play, but all of the bingos allow big J plays on Column A. I decided to take my chances with JARL/JARS. The best of the Row 14 bingos is apparently kNIFERS. However, I should have looked for other options to the S; the best play here is SaNSERIF. (-10)

#note I couldn't figure out what to do here, but this isn't it. None of the bingo options for Ian pose any threat. APT B5 wins the sim easily. (-17)

#note Not quite; WHET 4A is 6 points better, and seems pretty obvious in hindsight.

#note An auspicious start to what was the most surreal day of Scrabble in my entire life. But already, you can see that my game is full of holes. Sooner or later, I'm going to fall into one of them.
