#player1 Samuel_Kaplan Samuel Kaplan
#player2 Mark_Miller Mark Miller
>Samuel_Kaplan: EKOPPQV -EKOPPQV +0 0
#note Not the start that I was looking to have after a disappointing Round 2. Yes, Mark is an offensive-minded player just like I am, but on an undeveloped board, keeping E or keeping EP are still fine over this. POKE does not score enough and gives back too many hooks to justify keeping a leave that will not allow me to bingo for several turns. #strategymedium
>Mark_Miller: ACHHT 8D HATCH +34 34
#note I like this placement over all others myself.
>Samuel_Kaplan: ADEGILY G2 DELIGA.Y +71 71
>Samuel_Kaplan: ADEGILY -- -71 0
#note 9C YAGI should have been the play, but instead I mixed up DELEGACY and DELICACY. That was the mistake I made on this play.
>Mark_Miller: GJO 9C JOG +27 61
>Samuel_Kaplan: ADEGILY 10D GAY +26 26
#note So he would have had JOG for more if I played YAGI. Still not looking good.
>Mark_Miller: ?DEFIRR 11E REFRIeD +105 166
#note I could have gotten upset, but that's never a recipe for a good game. It's far from over. Nice play Mark!
>Samuel_Kaplan: BDEIILN H10 B.IDLE +30 56
#note J4 INEDIBL(e) is very findable. Do I really want this one...? I thought that this needed to be done over 10J BIELD or BI for a more open board at this score.
>Mark_Miller: DEV 10J DEV +20 186
>Samuel_Kaplan: AABINOT 14F AB.ATION +64 120
#note When I'm behind, taking risks is absolutely mandatory. I did see G2 BOTANI(C)A, but this keeps Mark on his toes. I just have to hope he can't effectively block plays making ABLATIONS.
>Mark_Miller: ANPU 15L PUNA +36 222
>Samuel_Kaplan: IOOSSTT 15B TOOTSI.S +67 187
#note There we go. Now things are looking a little better and any nonbingo scores terribly. So I'm glad to spot this one. #visionsolid
>Mark_Miller: ERUV 13C ERUV +20 242
>Samuel_Kaplan: ACIILSU M7 AULIC +17 204
#note I was hoping the last tile I saw after ACILSU was something better than a 2nd I for a 3rd bingo in a row. Unsurprisingly, I did not get a floating D for SUICIDAL, and I would have missed SILICULA even if he gave me an L. This move looks good despite the danger with the Q unseen.
>Mark_Miller: LNR 8L N.RL +15 257
#note He definitely wasn't keeping the Q considering how long he took to play this.
>Samuel_Kaplan: EEIIKNS 12A KINE +32 236
#note Easily best.
>Mark_Miller: AEENW A9 WEA.EN +13 270
#note Interesting play. I couldn't think of any extensions for WEAKEN, and there were none.
>Samuel_Kaplan: EEGIRSZ F6 ZI. +32 268
#note Gotta play off the Z right now if I want to catch up. I don't have any idea how I managed to get to within a bingo at this point.
>Mark_Miller: DEFTU 6C FUT.ED +19 289
>Samuel_Kaplan: EEGIRSS C2 GRIE. +18 286
#note I wasn't in the mood to telegraph the other S with H1 SIEGE(D) or C2 GRIE(F)S, and this time I didn't feel that I was down enough to warrant leaving the S exposed in the 8th position. Opening the top left is fine, but not in a manner that will give critical rack info away.
>Mark_Miller: LMO 4A MO.L +18 307
>Samuel_Kaplan: EENSSTX 10A .X +25 311
#note I did see SEXTED* at H1 but correctly passed that up. Even though I missed EXTEND at H1 for 45, I actually win about 6.5% more often after my play because I can fish for so many more bingoes. So this is where having a less random rack will be helpful.
>Mark_Miller: ORW A1 WOR. +27 334
>Samuel_Kaplan: EEMNSST C2 .....S +11 322
#note Sucks that SE(G)MENTS got blocked. Championship Player identifies this as the winningest move because once again, there's so many things I can fish for. I'm gonna have to bingo out if I want to win this game, and I can hit 5H ENTASES, 5G MENTEES, 5H ESTEEMS, O5 SET(L)INES, 5G TONEMES, among many other options if I get lucky enough to pick the other blank. This was misscored as 10.
>Mark_Miller: ?AAIOPQ 7H AQuA +29 363
#note Assuming this was Mark's final rack of 7 tiles (I drew an O out of the bag after GRIEFS and ended up getting EIOPY from him), N4 fAQI(R) is his winningest play per Championship Player as it blocks all of my possible Row 5 bingoes. The only thing left that I could have had was 2C (G)EMSTONE.
>Samuel_Kaplan: EEMNOST 5G TONEMES +78 400
#note That was probably the biggest comeback win of my Scrabble career to date. I don't think I ever had a tournament game where I was trailing the whole game and finished on top. The Hail Mary play of GRIEFS worked out nicely, and I managed to overcome my disastrous start. I really had a nice lunch break after this one. Final score was recorded as 419-363.
