>Samuel_Kaplan: EESSUXY 8G SEXY +28 28
#note I have not posted an annotated game from a live tournament or a virtual tournament in months, and live tournaments are always nice! So let's start off by making the best equity play when it's early on and maximizing bingo % in the process.
>David_Engelhardt: AFLO 7H FOAL +28 28
>Samuel_Kaplan: BEJRSUW 6J JEU +57 85
#note JEW in the same spot as the much more aggressive play if it weren't for expurgations, but this is fine under the circumstances knowing the X is on the board. Dave doesn't have a whole lot to work with after this move. I somehow still don't know how to update my Quackle to put the NWL2020 lexicon in there.
>David_Engelhardt: EW G8 .EW +7 35
#note And here's the move that helped me get out of a consonant heavy draw.
>Samuel_Kaplan: BELRSSW 11C BREWS +27 112
#note There is also 9E BL(E)W which I also considered, and it does keep a little better, but I felt that (S)EW was fishy and aggressive, so I decided to make the board a little more dead for 7s than by leaving the SEWN and SEWS hooks open. I also score 9 more immediately, which is why the plays are close in win %, but the valuation on this play is about 5.4 lower than BL(E)W and about 2.1 below BR(E)W after 8000 iterations of 4-ply.
>David_Engelhardt: DEHOOPP -4 +0 35
#note Not actual rack. Dave exchanged 4 tiles here.
>Samuel_Kaplan: ALNORST C7 LAST.ORN +74 186
#note But the only downside of BREWS over BLEW was not having a 2x2 for this bingo! All good though, it's the only bingo and this puts me firmly in the driver's seat. Dave did hold this but he correctly accepted.
>David_Engelhardt: LPT 8A PL.T +21 56
>Samuel_Kaplan: ADIINPV D4 DAVI. +20 206
#note At this score, I felt that eliminating the PLAT hooks on Column E, which was Dave's most likely line to bingo with, was important to do as well as dumping the V over the 4 extra points with B12 PAID or 2 extra points with B12 PAIN. Because I can withstand some bingoes with the LASTBORNS hook (only 1 S left so that's more unlikely to happen than Column E bingoes), DAVIT does jump to the top of the sim.
>David_Engelhardt: GNU 5K GNU +18 74
#note He does make a nice play setting up a 2nd S hook that will be hard for me to deal with.
>Samuel_Kaplan: ?AIINPQ C3 QI +25 231
#note Looks like the clear best play which effectively exhausts the top left of the board.
>David_Engelhardt: EM 10E ME. +21 95
>Samuel_Kaplan: ?AHINPT 13A Pe.IANTH +63 294
#note This is my first big mistake this game missing the superior 14B A(N)TIPHoN. It is a word that I knew, and although I also saw 13B T(R)ANsHIP, I like the play I made over T(R)ANsHIP with the Z still unseen. #findinglarge
>David_Engelhardt: EO H13 .OE +18 113
>Samuel_Kaplan: EEHINOR A11 HO.ER +33 327
#note No home for HEROINE on this board. Looks good.
>David_Engelhardt: DDI B4 DID +14 127
>Samuel_Kaplan: EIINOOV 5D .VION +16 343
#note I was not comfortable doing E1 ENVOI or E3 ION at this score. I'm OK with this move to go through more tiles without opening up a new lane for him.
>David_Engelhardt: EY 4G YE +14 141
#note He's been close to a bingo all this time apparently.
>Samuel_Kaplan: AEFGIOR 3H FORAGE +28 371
#note Now I can partially block the GNUS hook while accomplishing more tile turnover.
>David_Engelhardt: ?CEIOTT 12H sCOTTIE +72 213
#note Good find and his best play.
>Samuel_Kaplan: ABDEIIK 2K KADI +30 401
#note Seeing I can't block the SCOTTIES hook with any reasonable candidate plays, in this case 11J BEAK or F2 BIK(I)E, and both blanks are on the board, I might as well try to gain more spread with a 2 more S hooks.
>David_Engelhardt: AOZ 1L ZOA +51 264
#note Nice play.
>Samuel_Kaplan: BEEIMRT L8 EMBI.TER +64 465
#note Mhm
>David_Engelhardt: AAGLNRU 15L .UGA +15 279
>Samuel_Kaplan: CINSU N7 INCUS. +10 475
#note Unfortunately, I did not know INCUS was a word and lost 24 spread points. That does play at O8.
Mostly a good one, only this and missing ANTIPHON were critical mistakes. Nice start.
>Samuel_Kaplan: (ALNR) +8 483
