>David: FIKNOPZ 8D PINKO +28 28
#note I considered this or FIZ. My instincts would usually point to FIZ, but I felt like a more open board. This was the first of a few dubious, unconventional decisions I made in this game. FIZ wins a sim by 4 points, I think for good reason. It scores more and keeps things fairly closed with a not bad but still awkward leave, unlikely to bingo for at least another turn or two. FZ, meanwhile, is a restrictive leave and I overestimated its potential after PINKO.
>Flora: IOTX F4 TOXI. +28 28
>David: AEFOUVZ 4D FU.Z +32 60
#note I thought awhile about this one. ZOUAVE 5E for 36 was tempting but obviously dangerous. While boldness often pays off, this was a bit much for me, and after being 1-3 by the time of this game, I was feeling a bit chastened and risk-averse. Quackle prefers ZOUAVE by nearly 7 points, but I wonder how many humans would really play it here. Perhaps I should have been that human. OUZO 5C 26, another candidate comes out more than 11 points behind ZOUAVE.
>Flora: DEIIT D8 .ITIED +18 46
>David: ?AABEOV C11 BOA +22 82
#note I considered ABOVE C11 32, but again was concerned about the easy opening, even with X and Z gone. The sim prefers it by 9 points over BOA and OBA, which come out exactly the same. I question this but maybe the extra 10 points and losing the V make it worth it. I think BOA is at least reasonable here, and gives me a good shot to bingo soon from a small lead or even score.
>Flora: AHR 5E H.AR +35 81
>David: ?AELRVV 11C ..VALVE +30 112
#note I actually saw and passed up REViVAL 9H 66. It didn't score very much and opened an S hook on the O column with no S's and a blank still unplayed. I reasoned that I was likely to bingo anyway the following turn, or at least be safe from major counterplay, and my bingo might score more or be more defensive, especially if Flora played to row 15. I thought my play would still not be liked much by a sim, but to my surprise it only sims 2.2 behind REViVAL. Meanwhile, I missed TRiVALVE 10D 71, which comes ahead of REViVAL by 7.5, unsurprisingly. So close yet so far.
>Flora: BI 3C BI +13 94
#note She announced this as 13 and I didn't notice it should be 15.
>David: ?GMOORT H11 .ROOM +33 145
>Flora: ?EISSTT 15H .ISSTaTE +80 174
#note bITSIEST or dITSIEST 9C for 83, tough to see.
>David: ?AGMNRT K8 MiGRANT. +70 215
#note Very bad. I missed GARMeNT, MARGeNT or MARTiNG 2B for 78. MARTiNG. Despite the S hook, MARTiNG beats both by about half a point, perhaps because it's harder to play on row 1 after. I definitely felt impatient to just get a bingo down here but a bit more thought would reveal better choices.
>Flora: EILU J5 LIEU +10 184
#note Mis-scored as 9
>David: CDEOQSW 7E Q. +22 237
#note Preferred by the sim over COWED B2 35 by about 2.5
>Flora: ES 4D ....ES +22 206
>David: CCDEOSW B2 CODEC +37 274
#note I briefly considered COWER H1 for 30. It beats CODEC by about 2 in equity, thoiugh it's indicated to have 0.4% less wins. I was defensive-minded here, holding a lead on a tightening board (though by no means closed) with the case S for UMS. Keeping W is the big drawback here. Doing it again, I might play COWER, but could be convinced either way.
>Flora: EEEIRRT 2D RETIREE +67 273
>David: FLNNSUW 12J F.WN +20 294
#note Sims just about even with AWFUL 12A 24, though I don't know why.
>Flora: ADN 1H AND +23 296
>David: GGLNOSU B13 LUG +12 306
#note I was setting the other G on column A, but I missed GLUON 3I 27. With only a single I remaining, the GLAD setup may be of limited value, and I should rather keep scoring and hope the S will help enough in the late game. LUG sims about 9.5 behind GLUON. The setup play GLUG 3I 19 is interesting, and still beats LUG by 2.5, but the setup seems of limited value given the very vowel-heavy bag.
>Flora: AJY N10 JAY +43 339
>David: EGHNOSW O8 WHO +36 342
>Flora: AY 10F YA +28 367
>David: AEEGNPS 15A E.G +15 357
#note This is where things became really pear-shaped. I was in time trouble and trying to correct tracking, which I turned out to be a tile or two off on. I debated whether keeping G or P would bingo more often. I somehow thought the -ING bingos on column A were too much of a longshot, and that I'd bingo more with P on the L or N columns, or possibly use the P to narrowly outscore somehow if I didn't bingo. I saw PE 14M 15, but missed PER 12F 16. In a game this tight that point could mean the difference, but more importantly it wins 15% more, on top of being 14 points superior in equity.
>Flora: DELNORU K3 UDON +16 383
>David: AAEINPS L4 APSE +26 383
#note No fit for PAESANI. The I was in the bag after all. Had I played PER, I'd have EASING A8, but it would still lose narrowly to LANDER 1G 10 or LINER 6I 5
>Flora: ELR 1G L...ER +10 393
#note Because of the 1 point error on LIEU, Flora should have 399 but the game was scored 398-383.
>Flora: (AIN) +6 399
