#note This is the first of two offstream games in my match with Matt (games 3-6 were onstream; the offstream games are my priority for Quackling.) The only question here is whether or not to play the D or leave it off and just go with LAZE. Surprisingly (at least to me) LAZE wins the sim by a not insignificant margin (about 3.5 points). I guess DENT is a slightly better leave than ENT in a vacuum, and having a few floating vowels helps (though there is no guarantee that these vowels will remain unblocked.) The hook probably favors me (no reason to believe Matt retained a D or an S.) Apparently I bingo 5% more often after LAZE?? Couterintuitive to me. We live and learn, I guess.

#note I was sad that VEHemENT and reVEHENT got blocked. I did manage to find my highest scoring bingo here, better than any temporizing play.

#note The sim winner is PIU H1 for 22 - it looks like a clear improvement; I believe I overlooked it. This is okay, but it suffers from keeping the U in the leave and sims three points behing PIU. I liked constricting a few lanes for eights but I could do that a bit better with PIU.

#note I looked for something at O10 or O11, but OLEUM evaded me, probably because I was fixated on sixes. It looks like a clear improvement over anything else simply on the basis of score (scores 6 more than my play). My play sims comparably to a bunch of fishy looking two tile plays that I would be unlikely to opt for (tough to bingo on this board without an S).

#note This looks good. I fork the board with a strong leave and exploit my hook tiles.

>Arie_Sinke: ABEHLUW B2 WHALE +32 342
#note This is actually a really good play. It obstructs more bingo lines than anything else I can do. I have some options that score better (WEALTH 2E, HEWABLE 14I) but they suffer from opening new lines and failing to obstruct existing ones. I still need to deal with rows 13-15 and I'm hoping I can draw something next turn (potentially the V, for instance) that would allow me to block that area of the board effectively. WHALE wins a sim.

>Arie_Sinke: ABDGRUV 2M VU. +29 371
#note I was unable to come up with an effective block and surmised that I would have to attempt to outrun Matt's likely bingo rather than blocking innefectively (something like VUGS, for instance, allows Matt to bingo with AGERS and potentially outrun me.) I didn't spot VAGUE 14K for 18, which effectively blocks all bingos in the bottom half of the board. The problem with VAGUE is that it empties the bag and loses to a bunch of outbingos in the E and F columns (TENORINI, STREUSEL, ENTRESOL). VUM looks like it can basically always outrun whatever Matt picks up, and it has got to be better than VAGUE.

>Arie_Sinke: ABDGRTU A12 .ABU +30 401
#note Low on time, I make a huge spread error - I can block all of Matt's bingos with OUTBRAG or OUTDRAG at 14B. In a format where spread is almost meaningless (barring the event of a 3.5-3.5 tie in the series, or having the exact same record as another player with the same number of match wins and using it as a tiebreaker) it is arguably justifiable to take the points and outrun any hidden bingo I might believe Matt could potentially have.
