Player 1
#player1 Billy_Nakamura Billy Nakamura
#player2 Joe_Edley Joe Edley
>Billy_Nakamura: BEEIOSU -BEIOU +0 0
#note BOUSE wins the sim slightly, but I feel like playing it is horrible for me vs Edley.
>Joe_Edley: LPU 8G PUL +10 10
>Billy_Nakamura: EEILSXZ J8 LEX +32 32
#note Sim winner
>Joe_Edley: NOO I8 .OON +17 27
>Billy_Nakamura: ACEISTZ K5 ZITS +33 65
#note I know I considered the sim winner H10 SEZ and the second best play of CAPIZ. There are a bunch of other better plays too. Not sure why I settled on this.
>Joe_Edley: GUV H10 VUG +24 51
>Billy_Nakamura: AACEJMO 6J J.AO +27 92
#note J(I)CAMA is a fun play I didn't see, but this is best
>Joe_Edley: EGO 13G EGO +15 66
>Billy_Nakamura: EEEMOUW 14B CAMPERS +92 184
#note I only found COMPARES through the O, but there are 2 anagrams that score 86 that I probably would've selected had I known them, given the dangerous hook CAMPERS creates and Joe's 4 fishy plays in a row. Sim likes this best statically though.
>Joe_Edley: ?BEIMRS A8 BIReMES +103 169
>Billy_Nakamura: EEEIOUW 12A .OUE +12 196
#note I chose this over the better simming plays of 15C EEEW and B5 OWIE because I felt like IOU was too bad a leave and the resulting board was much harder to play on for Joe respectively. Sim suggests that this line of thinking is at least sort of correct, but not to the degree that the sacrifice is worth it.
>Joe_Edley: CIIRT 9A .RITIC +9 178
>Billy_Nakamura: DEEIKQW 8C QI +26 222
>Joe_Edley: AFO 15D OAF +21 199
#note Joe at first laid another play down here that made an invalid 2 and revealed more of his letters to me. I think he flashed an E trying to play C2 FOE but I can't remember exactly what happened. The fact that his first instinct was to try and get rid of an E instead of an A suggested to me that he was holding another E. I also inferred that he had kept an I from IRITIC. All in all, I played my next turn as though he was keeping EEI, but this is probably trying too hard to read his rack.
>Billy_Nakamura: DEEEKNW M3 END.W +26 248
#note Was sad that this 7 didn't go down. I correctly concluded that ENDOW seems to be the strongest static play and further cemented my decision when I concluded Joe likely kept EEI on his previous turn, making hanging and E out on space for 1 turn not that dangerous.
>Joe_Edley: ADENOTT 3F DETONAT. +61 260
#note Inference shattered
>Billy_Nakamura: DEEIKNO H1 KI.ED +33 281
#note Trying to score and limit bingo bango potential. This slightly loses to 2B OINKED. Notably after OINKED, there are no more natural Os for ODE.
>Joe_Edley: EINV 5D VINE. +18 278
#note Again, I think Joe flashed an A here laying down VANED at first.
>Billy_Nakamura: ADEFINO 2G F.NED +25 306
#note I was super proud of this play at the time, but Quackle is not impressed and says I should just play L1 FETA. My reasoning behind this play is that it absolutely butchers the board, killing bingo and scoring chances for Joe. Meanwhile, I preserve the last remaining natural O for the K1 spot to potentially score and score just about as well as possible for this turn too. Can anyone tell me why my play is so bad? Is it just that AIO is too bad a leave?
>Joe_Edley: AHW 11D WHA +23 301
>Billy_Nakamura: AAEGIOT 4E GIT. +19 325
#note Quackle likes 7D AGIO, but I didn't like giving up my O and not scoring. Same story with L3 TOEA. I think I just missed D2 AGAVE. Wanted to play GATE over GITE, but just couldn't with 2 A's out.
>Joe_Edley: LSY 8M SLY +28 329
>Billy_Nakamura: AABEIOT 7M .AB +17 342
#note Saw and laid down LABIATE here, but felt that I was dead to the blank and probably in a bad position if he has one of the H or Y. I chose this because I couldn't see how he would ever score enough on this board to overtake me, but Quackle seems to disagree.
>Joe_Edley: NU 7G UN +10 339
>Billy_Nakamura: AEHIORT 1K OTHER +31 373
#note Quackle likes O6 ABY, but says that my play wins 100% of the time, even though it is the worst of the options it suggests.
>Joe_Edley: ?AAELRR 9N AE +13 352
>Billy_Nakamura: AIY 4L A.Y +16 389
#note A catastrophic, game losing error here. I was afraid of somehow getting stuck with the Y if I kept it here, but I should be more concerned about getting stuck with another letter.
>Joe_Edley: ?ALRR F11 .R +2 354
#note Joe is down to ~3 minutes at this point and spends 2 of them looking to make sure that I only have 1 out.
>Billy_Nakamura: I - +0 389
#note It was at this point he knew... he fucked up.
>Joe_Edley: ?ALR N7 ...R +6 360
#note Joe comments that he thinks that he still doesn't have enough to win. He initially lays down M10 AR but takes it back realizing he would be giving me an out.
>Billy_Nakamura: I - +0 389
>Joe_Edley: ?AL 5M .A +8 368
>Billy_Nakamura: I - +0 389
>Joe_Edley: ?L C14 .L +9 377
>Billy_Nakamura: I - +0 389
>Joe_Edley: ? C8 ..s +11 388
#note This should have won by 1. However, Joe has 5 seconds on his clock when he starts this turn and takes his sweet time finding his play, laying it down, and hitting the clock. Meanwhile, I am sweating bullets knowing that I will lose if he hits his clock in time. I watch the seconds tick down and the clock hits 00:00 as he is reaching for it. It ticks over to -00:01 before he stops it. We both let out a sigh of relief. Joe asks me if I want a recount and is extremely confused and happy after I decline. I point out the clock. He can't believe it and says that this is the first time in years that he has gone over on time. Recount would not have mattered. Final score 389-380. 1 second literally won me this game.
>Joe_Edley: (I) +2 390
