>Arie_Sinke: ADELRTU G8 .UAD +15 15
#note QI openings are really annoying and hard to respond to correctly. I though this had to be the right choice, and so did Quackle's static evaluator, but a sim suggests that I should exchange the U. The problem is that the sim doesn't recognize that a human expert tends to respond defensively to a one tile exchange, so the sim misevaluates this play. Still worth considering and I'm willing to believe that exchanging the U is better than QUAD.
>Mark_Garrod: UV 10F V.U +14 36
>Arie_Sinke: ?AEILRT 12G sLATIER +78 93
#note This was an amazing draw - AI? to ELRT. I miss a great find here - R(I)T(U)ALIzE at H7 is four points better than this.
>Mark_Garrod: AENOPRT K7 ATROP.NE +70 106
>Arie_Sinke: AAEGNOT 13H AGO. +16 109
#note This is a reasonable choice, but there are a few other reasonable options. The sim winner by about three points is GANNET 13I for 31, and I think I would have probably played that if I had seen it; it scores far more than any other play while creating a second S hook, which increases the value of the Ss that I don't have even more on this board. TOGAE 8K I eschewed, reasoning that the E was worth more than five points to me here; it outsims my play by about 4 points, which would suggest that the value of the E with the ANT leave is closer to 4 points on this board.

>Mark_Garrod: MU 8M .UM +21 214
>Arie_Sinke: BDFIIOS 14F BI.... +23 275
#note This is reasonable and sims comparably with the best choices, and has the advantage of partially obstructing row 15. I eschewed plays that I felt spent the S too cheaply, including FIDOS and BIDIS 7C; those plays sim comparably to my play. I would never really consider them, they give too much back while spending an S cheaply.
>Mark_Garrod: EFT G2 EFT +26 240
>Arie_Sinke: DFHIOOS F1 OF +30 305
#note This looks best, it scores well and keeps my most valuable tiles; unfortunately it doesn't block anything.
>Mark_Garrod: AIILORS 15A GYRONE +37 277
>Mark_Garrod: AIILORS -- -37 240
>Arie_Sinke: DIIMOSX 15D OXID. +21 326
#note I'm happy I had the courage and certainty to challenge GYRONE; after having been successfully bluffed multiple times during my 11 game losing streak it feels good to win a challenge. That being said, OXIDE is a terrible play, motivated by a single-minded focus on blocking GROYNE I missed my play of SIXMO 15K. IODISM 7C, which sets up the X, also looks better; in theory it will practically never be blocked because Mark will always play GROYNE.
