>Samuel_Kaplan: DEEELPS 8F PEED +14 14
#note 1st live tourney for me in 2.5 years! The drive to Holden, MA was well worth it. I stopped off in CT on the way there the day before to hang out with another buddy and had a great time with him too. Despite some word knowledge errors I made this tourney, it felt nice to use real equipment when it mattered most. So here it goes: I saw SLEEPED* but correctly passed that up. Unfortunately, I thought SPEEL was a noun and not a verb, so I chickened out of SPEELED. #knowledgelarge
>Ed_Liebfried: BGINTT G7 B.TTING +16 16
>Samuel_Kaplan: ABDEHLS 11D HAB.LE +22 36
#note The nerves were still settling in even after my first move and missed the ABETTING hook for either 6F BAH or 6F BALED. Both of those moves clearly keep better than just DS which don't get along too well.
>Ed_Liebfried: AFRZ 6F ZARF +47 63
#note And how is he gonna score this much with his Z if I do BAH or BALED last turn? Serves me right.
>Samuel_Kaplan: ADDEIRS D8 DIE.ARDS +82 118
#note I clearly settled down after finding this only bingo. It only gets better from this point on.
>Ed_Liebfried: CDRUY 14A CRU.DY +42 105
#note Nice play keeping pace with me.
>Samuel_Kaplan: ?AMOORV H13 OVA +21 139
#note The only bingoes in this rack that I found were VAROOMs, OMNIVORA, and VAROOMED. Perhaps the aggression with 15F ARVO is warranted with a blank in hand, clearly a little stronger. #strategysmall
>Ed_Liebfried: ?AAEEGI -6 +0 105
#note Not actual rack. Ed exchanged 6 tiles.
>Samuel_Kaplan: ?EMOORS C3 ROOMiES +74 213
#note Spent a while on this turn looking for bingoes starting at C3 ending with -MOS or -MES, and there were none. 15H (A)cROSOME is a hard find, but nonetheless a miss for 6 more. #findingmedium
>Ed_Liebfried: CX 4B C.X +24 129
>Samuel_Kaplan: ?AEEELN A8 ELEgAN.E +140 353
#note This turn definitely made the difference and basically locked the game up already, and I was very happy to spot this one.
>Ed_Liebfried: GIILNRS 15G R.ILINGS +60 189
#note Only bingo for him.
>Samuel_Kaplan: AGNOSWY N10 WAGON. +36 389
#note While I did consider B10 WON as well as E3 WAY setting up my S, there's a way to score nicely and go through more tiles to minimize his chances of clawing his way back, so I went with this.
>Ed_Liebfried: AOV O8 AVO +23 212
>Samuel_Kaplan: FJLPSUY M13 JU. +42 431
#note Scoring tiles are always nice to draw when this board has some hotspots and other ways to score. Not to mention, I can always use the ZARFS hook to help block some lanes should Ed attempt to open the top right more.
>Ed_Liebfried: EEINQU H1 ENQUI.E. +58 270
>Ed_Liebfried: EEINQU -- -58 212
>Samuel_Kaplan: EFLPSTY M7 FELTY +27 458
#note Challenging off ENQUIREE* was easy to do because a couple of years ago at Nationals, Joe South extended OLOGY into ASTrOBI(OLOGY). Knowing he found a 12, his opponent was likely flabbergasted and he realized he could get away with that phony 3x3. But since that piece of news spread like wildfire, I wasn't going to be the next victim of that. Not to mention I do know my 5 vowel 8s, at least for the most part. Only QUEENIER is valid with that rack. Also, this was done to force him to play EQUINE in a manner that would allow me to shut down the lanes he makes with the ZARFS hook.
>Ed_Liebfried: EEINQU L4 EQUINE +42 254
>Samuel_Kaplan: AOOPRSU J2 POURS +34 492
#note I think POURS is safe enough seeing he's unlikely to bingo through the P with this pool. Also, I did not know PAROUS, but I would have passed that up if I was going to pass up POROUS, which I did see.
>Ed_Liebfried: OW B10 WO +27 281
>Samuel_Kaplan: AHIIIOT B6 HA +29 521
#note I have missed this word in the past and I missed it again, 2J (P)ITHOI. #findinglarge
>Ed_Liebfried: AEKMNTT H1 TANKE. +45 326
#note And safe to say, he would have gone out 1st a lot of time given what I drew out of the bag, another I.
>Samuel_Kaplan: IIIIOT M4 TI +15 536
#note O12 IT for 2 more.
>Ed_Liebfried: MT E10 T.M +11 337
#note 12A (A)TM(A) is 1 more for him. Couple misses due to nerves, but it does help to draw the other blank right after doing ROOMiES when (A)cROSOME was a litttle better. Hitting the 3x3 and challenging off ENQUIREE* were key factors to victory and a brief lead in the standings, which would not hold up.
>Ed_Liebfried: (IIIO) +8 345
