#player2 Morris_Greenberg Morris Greenberg
>Jared_Cappel: EHOOSVY 8G HOY +18 18
#note JC: Quackle likes HOOEY over HOY as I thought it would. This was a stylistic choice that I'd probably make again even though I likely shouldn't.
>Morris_Greenberg: IJNNSUY J6 JUS +36 36
>Jared_Cappel: EOORSUV I8 .OU +7 25
>Morris_Greenberg: IINNSTY G8 .INNY +12 48
#note MG: This was inference-based, he is holding ER with 3 other synergistic tiles a lot of the time he plays (Y)OU, it felt advantageous to limit non-S 7s hooking YOU or above the HO in HOYS.
>Jared_Cappel: EIOORSV 11E VI.O +14 39
#note JC: Quackle slightly prefers (Y)O for 6 points as I bingo 68% on the following turn as opposed to 41% after VINO. Still leaning towards my play here.
>Morris_Greenberg: DEEIRST 7A DIETERS +73 121
>Jared_Cappel: ELOORST B2 OESTR.OL +70 109
#note JC: Sims better than the other bingo of ROOTLETS.
>Morris_Greenberg: ?CEFIIV D4 FIC.IVE +32 153
>Jared_Cappel: IKLNOTW K4 IKON +27 136
#note JC: IKON is the sort of play I'd never make in a tourney, given the E front hook, the I floater, and parallel plays down from L4. However, I saw if I drew an E I'd have DWELT for 44 on the following turn (44 pts isn't enough to justify this plan - a fact I was aware of at the time). I was considering all of the highest simming plays (TWINK, TWO, WINK) but at the last moment plopped down IKON, more to see what would happen as opposed to believing it was the best play. The beauty (or folly) of casual games, I suppose.
>Morris_Greenberg: ?DEGLMO 4F MODEL.nG +76 229
>Jared_Cappel: HLNRTUW J10 HURT +28 164
#note JC: Failed to consider THRU at A1.
>Morris_Greenberg: AAEIPST C9 AA +12 241
#note MG: I noticed there had been no As played yet! Sims ahead of everything else.
>Jared_Cappel: ACLTUWW 3G WAW +38 202
>Morris_Greenberg: AEEIPST H2 P..I +7 248
#note MG: I missed the lovely (Y)PE(R)ITE for 37 points. When I play this, I think SPADI* is a word (combined SPAHI and SPADO), and think Jared isn't likely enough to be holding the blank that the setup isn't worth it. Obviously a bad play since SPADI* isn't a word so this isn't setting up anything.
>Jared_Cappel: BCLNRTU 12I B.UNT +14 216
#note JC: Quackle likes UNCURB from the U in HURT.
>Morris_Greenberg: AEEPSTX 1C APEXES +78 326
>Morris_Greenberg: AEEPSTX -- -78 248
#note MG: A really bad sequence.
>Jared_Cappel: ACEGLLR 3A L.G +8 224
#note JC: Started to feel like Morris was handing me this game to avoid the indignity of going 0-4. What a mensch!
>Morris_Greenberg: AEEPSTX E11 .EX +13 261
#note MG: Hilariously, I chose not to play (P)AX 2H because I thought it allowed for high point bingos, failing to realized that AWE doesn't take front hooks. That is a clearly better play, this is a third bad turn in a row.
>Jared_Cappel: ACEILRT 14A RECITAL +86 310
#note JC: I had bingos all over (PARTICLE, TRACTILE) but Morris gives me an even better lane after mistakenly passing up on PAX. The win percentage jumps from 86% in his favour to 68% in mine. If you're questioning how two commentators at nationals could play this poorly, you're not alone.
>Morris_Greenberg: ABDEPST A12 BA.D +30 291
#note MG: DEPA(R)T might be better to go for the blank.
>Jared_Cappel: ?EEEMQR 9F Q. +11 321
#note JC: It's neck and neck between QI and exch EQ.
>Morris_Greenberg: ADEGPST 15F GAPED +32 323
#note MG: Inference of the 6 Jared has here is key to choosing the play. I didn't consider enough that Jared is usually not holding an A or the I here since QA(T) 13H or QI B12 would've been options last turn. If I put him on something like EEEMR?, then blocking this lane seems pointless, PAT(T)ED M9 would be better, or even PA(I)D D12 to take a lead and go for bingos too along row 15.
>Jared_Cappel: ?AEEEMR M6 AMEERa.E +76 397
#note JC: I correctly passed up PERMEATE/PERMEASE from the P as I can't open the 3x3 lane. However, I missed that PERMEATE also fit where I played AMEERATE. EMERITAE also fits in the same spot and is similarly defensive. This mistake increases Morris' win percentage by 5% but I'm still the heavy favourite to win.
>Morris_Greenberg: AFNNRST 8L N.T +4 327
>Jared_Cappel: AEIOZ 6M .ZO +32 429
#note JC: I had mistracked and didn't care about spread so just plopped down AZO. We post-mortemed this position for awhile and I saw that ZO(E)AE is actually a great block after NET (the 2nd best sequence). REI 10M leaving AZO is the best endplay but is rather counterintuitive, as there is only one spot for AZO on this board.
