>Edwin_Roth: DEENPRT 8D PRETEND +76 76
#note This tournament weekend was one big clusterf*ck. First, I lost at least an hour taking a wrong turn onto I-278 West instead of I-278 East so I had to take FDR Drive through rush hour Manhattan traffic to get back on I-87 and get to the tournament. Second of all, it snowed a ton Saturday during the tournament. Third, coming back, my flight sat 2 hours on the runway waiting to be deiced. And last of all, this was one of the worst showings I've ever had at a tournament. Time to analyze. Ed opening with a natural bingo was a terrible sign.
>Jonathan_Lindh: AEEMOOS 7G EMO +17 17
#note Ok enough, although I think J6 OEDEMA is probably best despite giving back the K11 scoring spot. Your first opponent opening with a natural bingo is never a good sign.
>Edwin_Roth: BY 6F BY +19 95
>Jonathan_Lindh: AEEGIOS 9H GOA +18 35
#note Pretty good, E5 EAGRE and D7 APOGEE are a hair better if that.
>Edwin_Roth: GRR 10J GRR +17 112
>Jonathan_Lindh: AAEEIST E5 AA +12 47
#note This best according to the Championship Player.
>Edwin_Roth: ?EHLORT D8 .LETHORa +74 186
#note L7 CHORTLER is 78 and D8 PORTHOLE and POTHOLER are 76 but this is very good as well.
>Jonathan_Lindh: EEEIIST -EEI +0 47
#note 14B EERIE if I want to play though. Everything was pretty bad here.
>Edwin_Roth: FOO E11 OOF +26 212
>Jonathan_Lindh: DEISTTV 15A DIV. +21 68
#note Chose this play for a balanced leave and to open the A lane for big bingos. I think this is a decent play at this deficit.
>Edwin_Roth: NU L10 .UN +6 218
>Jonathan_Lindh: AEENSTT 13H NEATEST +70 138
#note Any of the three NEATEST placements have their advantages and disadvantages. NEATEST is the best bingo here (the other is the 60 point SETENANT).
>Edwin_Roth: AEKLNST K2 ANKLETS +83 301
>Jonathan_Lindh: AHIILOP J1 AHI +29 167
#note Unfortunately, I can't take full advantage of J2 so I settle for this. Championship Player has this tied for best with J2 HAO for 35, I like this better because the pool is overloaded with I's.
>Edwin_Roth: DEIL H11 LI.ED +21 322
>Jonathan_Lindh: ILOPUUX 14J XI +52 219
#note Best play by far. Also sets up POILU for the next turn.
>Edwin_Roth: INW I3 WIN +20 342
#note This is something that I wouldn't be doing a lot of this tournament.
>Jonathan_Lindh: CILOPUU 15K POILU +29 248
>Edwin_Roth: AIQ A12 QAI. +24 366
>Jonathan_Lindh: CINSUVY 6J V.INY +27 275
#note Championship Player puts 1E VICUNA above this, but I'm not sure what purpose VICUNA serves since it closes the top left corner.
>Edwin_Roth: EZ 10B ZE. +32 398
>Jonathan_Lindh: CDGRSTU 1G RUG. +15 290
#note What a terrible draw. I played RUGA despite the consonant heavy leave to open up the top left. However, this would end up backfiring.
>Edwin_Roth: ?ACEEIM 2D MACE +16 414
#note Actual rack. We concluded M1 AMBIENCE for 78 was best, and B4 RACEMIZE for 76 and M1 CHIMENEA for 74 were the other two bingos. Dodged a bullet.
>Jonathan_Lindh: BCDFSTW 13C C..F +24 314
#note Either this or BOFF. These racks were commonplace throughout the tournament.
>Edwin_Roth: EEJ 3C JEE +26 440
>Jonathan_Lindh: ABDSTUW N2 BAWD. +28 342
#note I gave away spread in the endgame. B2 BAWDS for 37 is clearly best. I guess I whiffed on the AJEE hook. (-11)
>Edwin_Roth: ?IOORS 4A ROOS +29 469
#note Ed has two outs. The normal B3 ARIOSO for 17 and the insane N8 SORBITOL for 18. Ed was over time by this point.
>Jonathan_Lindh: STU C3 ..UST +13 355
#note L1 UTS for 17 is best. This is 2nd best. (-4)
>Jonathan_Lindh: (I?) +2 357
#note Not a winnable game but I could have gotten more spread in the endgame for sure. This game was reflective of how the overall tournament went.
