#note Going into Saturday afternoon, I have a 6-1 record, tied with Jason Li, but with a lead on spread. On Saturday afternoon, I manage to draw extremely well. All my games are close, but whenever I needed a blank or a late bingo, I got one. In fact, I drew 8/8 blanks on Saturday afternoon. I takes a certain amount of luck to win a tournament against a very strong field.
>Arie_Sinke: DEEINOR G8 .OE +7 7
#note This looks correct. Exchanging the O looks surprisingly good; it turns out DEEINR is more bingo-prone than DEINOR for both sevens and eights.
>Michael_Fagen: BDINOOS 10A NOBODI.S +65 77
#note This is a somewhat bold play, but totally justified; it wins the sim ove DOBSON when partial opponent rack of DEINR is specified.
>Arie_Sinke: DEHIMNR A7 MEH.DI +39 46
#note My bingo got put on hold with an untimely draw of HM. I can play this or keep fishing with OHM 9G for24; this is likely better.
>Michael_Fagen: AABOR E5 ABROA. +18 95
>Arie_Sinke: CFGINRR D9 F.RCING +35 81
#note This looks best.
>Michael_Fagen: ADMOT 13C D.ATOM +20 115
>Arie_Sinke: ?ARSTUX H13 .UX +36 117
#note The sim wants me to leave the G open, because my strong leave favors it. That sort of thing is not my style at all. There is no way I play XU 7I for two fewer points instead of MUX to go for the 3x3.
>Michael_Fagen: DEILY D1 YIELD +29 144
>Arie_Sinke: ?ALPRST B2 PLASTeR +75 192
#note This play isn't very good. I saw PeYTRALS through the Y as soon as I typed the rack into Quackle, and I also had fLYTRAPS through the Y. I saw and eschewed PUSTuLAR at 14G because I liked what PLASTeR does to the board. PLASTeR is great for defense but clearly I take the 11 extra points with fLYTRAPS/PeYTRALS. This is missed bingo #5 of the tournament.
>Michael_Fagen: HKOP F2 KOPH +30 174
>Arie_Sinke: ?CGILQZ I7 C.Z +27 219
#note Looks best, I can exchange next turn if I need to, and maybe get a better spot for QI than G1, and this mostly takes out VAUS.
>Michael_Fagen: IINSTTU 11H INTUITS +66 240
>Arie_Sinke: ?AGILQT 10L QI +24 243
#note I played this over QAT M9 because it scored two more points. It may be too defensive for me if I'm down a tempo with a blank; I want to bingo, and QAT doesn't totally block the S like QI does. In addition, GILT? may be bette than AGLT?, especially with three N's out.
>Michael_Fagen: EILW G3 WILE +32 272
>Arie_Sinke: ?AEGLRT H1 GELT +30 273
#note I didn't see AREG H1 for 35 here. It scores 5 more and looks like a better play. GALE may also be better; the pool is vowel heavy, so AR? may not be as good as RT? here.
>Michael_Fagen: AEEJR 15A JAE.ER +42 314
>Arie_Sinke: ?AEENRR 1H .ARdENER +77 350
#note GARdENER and GARNEREd look preferrable to the alternative of RARENEsS N4 for 70. GARdENER looks like it sets up lots of bingos, but Michael actually only responds with a bingo 2% of the time, whereas after RARENEsS counterplays like TWINY get him right back in the game.
>Michael_Fagen: EW C3 EW +22 336
>Arie_Sinke: AEFNOOY 2L FON +23 373
#note This play is good for disaster aversion; as it blocks dEVIANTS, dUNGIEST, EUGENIAS, ENVISAGE, EUGENIST, RANGIEST, and RUINATES. I can still lose to SAUTEING 8J, GIANTESS N4, and UINTA(IT)ES M5. In other words, I prevent myself from losing to an out-bingo 3/72 of the time with this play. FON is also very hard to outrun, as I threaten to play AYE A3 for 30 or YA I3 for 29. FON wins a sim; my other option is FOO M3, which allows more out-bingos and is probably also more outrunnable. I should win about 85% of the time after FON, a bit less after FOO, according to the sim.
>Michael_Fagen: AGINTUV A1 VUG +30 366
>Arie_Sinke: AEEOSY I3 YA +29 402
#note YAS is a better play, but I was a tiny bit afraid that it was Collins only and didn't want to stake the outcome of the game on a play that would only yield three extra spread points. A few errors in this game, of which the most significant was missing PeYTRALS/fLYTRAPS.
