>Arie_Sinke: ?AEIIPR 8D PrAIRIE +72 72
#note It's the first game of the Canadian Scrabble Classic, and I immediately draw a strong rack. The three options here are PrAIRIE, ImPERIA, and PERIdIA. I reasoned that an L hook was a worse liability than an S hook here. However, ImPERIA may have value because it creates a hook in a less dangerous location (not PERIdIA.) PrAIRIE does slightly better on a short sim, though.
>Andre_Popadynec: FLN F6 FL.N +15 15
>Arie_Sinke: BEILLNO J5 LOB.LINE +64 136
#note This looks best. However, I was under the incorrect impression that LOBELINE doesn't take an S. (It does, it's an alkaloid extracted from lobelia.)
>Andre_Popadynec: DGNOORR -5 +0 15
>Arie_Sinke: DEKNSTU H7 D.UNKEST +64 200
#note Third consecutive opening bingo. When it rains, it pours. 10C DUNK for 41 is an interesting alternative that does almost as well in the sim, but 23 points is too much to give up. I didn't consider DUNK.
>Andre_Popadynec: ACHR D8 .ARCH +24 39
>Arie_Sinke: ADEJRSX K4 JADES +46 246
#note This looks like an error. I started to put down RAXES, then realised that I could play JADES in the same spot instead at a loss of only 4 points and retain the stronger RX leave as opposed to DJ. JADES is the static evaluator's top choice but it does badly in the sim, probably because it creates counterplays with the JO spot (all 8 O's are unseen at this point.) RAXES does better in the sim, but the sim winner is the simple DEX K10 for 38, which retains the S for a small sacrifice in score. -6.
>Andre_Popadynec: OOTT L2 TOOT +29 68
>Arie_Sinke: ?AEIRRX M1 RAX +40 286
#note This looks best. The alternative is AXE M2 for 50, but IRR? is surely 10 worse than EIR?.
>Andre_Popadynec: GIINOSZ -5 +0 68
>Arie_Sinke: ?BEEGIR E3 GIBE +19 305
#note First missed bingo of the tournament - IcEBERG M5 for 65. ICEBERG is always very difficult to see, even though it's a common word. Fortunately, this miss is not costly. -6.5, -12.5.
>Andre_Popadynec: EOT N2 TOE +22 90
>Arie_Sinke: ?DDEGRT 12G D.T.RGED +22 327
#note Second missed bingo of the tournament - TRuDGED at 4C for 83. This is an easier find than IcEBERG. I have a large lead here and I think I'm playing complacently and not taking my time to look for better plays. DETERGED is probably the best non-bingo, and I'm surprised that I saw it before TRuDGED. -30, -42.5.
>Andre_Popadynec: AI 11H .I.A +22 112
>Arie_Sinke: ?EGOPYY N10 PO.GY +36 363
#note I thought of POLYGENY# here, which I didn't know was Collins only, but not POLYGYNE. PODGY looks like the clear best play.
>Andre_Popadynec: EILOU O4 LOUIE +21 133
>Arie_Sinke: ?AEHOQY 14F QA. +32 395
#note QAT looks best.
>Andre_Popadynec: MOW N6 MOW +31 164
>Arie_Sinke: ?EEHORY O14 OY +20 415
#note I failed to record my rack here. I think my leave was EEHR? or EEHN?. If it was EEHN? I missed HEGEmONY and HYpOGENE. If it was EEHR?, this was a pretty decent play. I would like to believe that it was the latter, but something in my memory seems to suggest it was the N that I had. I'm having a hard time focusing on spread here because I don't have a realistic chance of losing.
>Andre_Popadynec: AEUZ 10A AZU.E +34 198
>Arie_Sinke: ?EEHNRV A6 REsH.VEN +92 507
#note There was a door prize for best "coronavirus" word. This would have been a good entry, because after lockdowns ended many people returned to the workplace reshaven. This looks best.
>Andre_Popadynec: ACEIMVW 3C VA.I +16 214
>Arie_Sinke: ACFMNNS 10A .....S +27 534
#note I reasoned that with the tiles I had, I definitely wasn't going to go out in two, and that this way I could grab as many points as possible going into the endgame. This looks weird but it wins a sim to the end of the game. I thought this was wrong when I played it, but I couldn't come up with anything better.
>Andre_Popadynec: EIIRSTU C3 .IRUS +9 223
>Arie_Sinke: ACFMNNW B12 FAWN +27 561
#note This looks best. 3 or 4 errors in 13 turns this game.
>Andre_Popadynec: EIT 15E TIE +16 239
