>skaplan31: AEHLUWX 8D WHEAL +30 30
#note Rd 5 Philly virtual 11-14-2021. Purposely chosen over WHALE to hopefully draw XI.
>DaBag: AENNNOT G5 NON. +5 5
#note Interesting... I would have expected him to 9C NEON or 7C NEON. My move would have been E8 HONAN.
>skaplan31: NTUUVXY 6G .NYX +30 60
#note NONA looked like a weird play to me based on his more normal playing style. I don't think he kept the J just because he might have done F6 JOE or something. Whatever he might have had, I don't give nearly as much back to him by doing H4 TUX, and I don't give him an opportunity to open up the board with a 6-letter X move with 6F VOX. Not to mention, Mitchell doesn't have a very good board to work with right now. I hope to make him open more which I know makes him uncomfortable.
>DaBag: AEILNPT H1 PLATE. +29 34
#note Looks fine. Glad I got my opening, at least for now.
>skaplan31: ATTUUVW 7C VAU +20 80
#note This or 2E UVU(L)A are fine. This way, I at least keep a vowel, even though UW sucks to have.
>DaBag: FGIIIIN 2F FI.ING +20 54
>skaplan31: QRTTUUW -QRTTUUW +0 80
#note That early advantage I thought I had is now gone. I honestly have no idea what I might be able to do with keeping QRTU on this board. I could keep that too, but I also liked going for SSSS??.
>DaBag: AEGIIMR 1A MIRAGE +35 89
#note MAIGRE in the same spot is 3 more, not sure if he knew that word.
>skaplan31: ACINORV 1K AVION +39 119
#note No home for CORVINA on this board. This is definitely the play.
>DaBag: DEEIMRU 5J EMU +19 108
#note Looks fine.
>skaplan31: ACGLOQR L4 Q.AG +28 147
>DaBag: DEIINRT M7 INDITER +76 184
>skaplan31: CELOORY 2N YO +22 169
#note Didn't like L12 YO against him. There's still some goodies left which can be used at any time.
>DaBag: ABDKLOS L10 KAB +34 218
#note L12 BALK does look good in the initial valuation, but I like this better, and so does the sim. The only downside of KAB is that it doesn't effectively address the INDITERS hook. I just don't think he would leave that open without an S.
>skaplan31: CEEELOR K11 CORE +27 196
#note While I did like CORE over COLE because of more remaining Rs than Ls, I did miss a bingo here- 11G RELOC(AT)EE. I gotta work on finding 9s. I realize they're not easy sometimes, but that could use some work. #findinglarge
>DaBag: DELOOOS 15H LOOSED +31 249
#note While some people might autopilot and do 15G LOOED, there is merit to doing LOOSED as there's still 3 more Ss to draw.
>skaplan31: ?EEELSZ 14F ZEE +34 230
#note I did see this at N6, but this is just so much safer despite me blocking one of my own lanes.
>DaBag: FORSTUU 3C TURF +23 272
>skaplan31: ?DEEILS A1 .ELoDIES +80 310
#note This time, I did see a 9 with O1 (NO)vELISED (yay!). This is again, safer over N4 oILSEED and LInSEED.
But... speaking of 9s once again, I did not see 10G hELIS(KI)ED, which I would not have done.
>DaBag: ?AIOOSU 8M .OO +9 281
>skaplan31: BEHRRSW O6 BR.W +9 319
#note I can utilize the 14J hotspot any time. After Mitchell just played off 2 vowels in desperation like that, he clearly has more vowels. So I can do 14J HER next turn if needed. The H is also important to keep for potential B8 bingoes which Mitchell wouldn't be likely to block knowing he has to start his bingoes with an I (or the blank to make an H or O).
>DaBag: ?ADIPSU 14J P.A +23 304
#note There's a 10 here which I definitely would not have seen: 11F AUSPI(CAT)eD. I've still never found a 10 yet in my several years of playing Scrabble! Anyone who sees this one belongs in the upper echelons.
>skaplan31: AEHIRST B8 HASTIER +79 398
#note I pretty much have to bingo now, otherwise Mitchell will block. I didn't see any bingoes that Mitchell could possibly have during the game, but postmortem, this does lose by convention if IT is in the bag because Mitchell bingoes out with 12A D(I)SJuNCT! That would have been an impressive highway robbery on his end if this scene had played out as described!
Not only that, there are scenarios where I could be J-stuck too, but luckily, DISJUNCT is the only bingo there was after HASTIER with this pool.
>DaBag: ?CDISTU 12A D.SCI +20 324
#note He rightfully blocks 13A J(E)T, but if I drew most other things with the J besides the T, he just has to J-stick me with D6 CAW, etc.
>skaplan31: JT D6 J.. +13 411
#note Whew
>DaBag: ?TU 4L .UiT +13 337
#note Or 15D UTa.
That was a little too close for comfort there, but I can safely reference Drake: Started from the bottom, now we here. 3-2 and I can win this tourney now.
