#note 29th Silicon Valley Classic
August 14, 2021
Game 11
I should get the exchange over with now.
>Jon_Demeter: EEW E11 EEW +21 41
>Stefan_Kac: EGNNOQT -OGENQ +0 48
#note Did I seriously keep NT here? Maybe I thought that with nine EEs and two NNs unseen this was actually better than ET. Sim prefers ENT, but I don't see why I wouldn't go for turnover here.
>Jon_Demeter: EFLOX F3 FLEXO. +32 73
>Stefan_Kac: EFIINRT 4E F.INTIER +74 122
>Jon_Demeter: ADQ J2 QA.D +34 107

>Jon_Demeter: BDELNS O4 BLENDS +48 155
>Stefan_Kac: BDILOOU N6 BOO. +27 220
#note Sim can't decide between this and E4 (F)OO, which I never saw or considered. BOOR seems better for defense and turnover.
>Jon_Demeter: EEMR F10 MERE +26 181
>Stefan_Kac: DHILTUY 2J .UILTY +36 256
#note Thank you tp adland for spreading this phoney far and wide. I do see H1 THI(N)LY but am too scared of the pool to float that T. Sim says good ol' QUILT is just as good, and that I stole a sizeable chunk of equity with the phoney.
>Jon_Demeter: ILO H1 LIO. +12 193
>Stefan_Kac: ADHIMOS 1M AIM +40 296
>Jon_Demeter: ?ADEIRV 14F RAVInED +71 264
>Stefan_Kac: ADHOOSU 13I HOO +22 318
#note Perhaps I needed to actually count the 15K options. Keeping 2/0 here is scarey, but sim says the points are worth it, and there are plenty of baubles left to draw. (F)OO is also still available. Clearly sim is not at all concerned with blocking JI(V)E. I was very concerned with it. I guess this is how I finish ahead of players with twice my spread? Currently there is talk of giving more weight to spread in calculating ratings. Seems to me that positions such as this one right here present the devil in said details. How often are wild spread/record discrepancies the product of mere luck, and how often are they the result of the difference between *human* and *robot* strategy? By giving more weight to spread, are we eliminating the luck part or the human part? In this case, I don't see how I am losing this game any way besides JI(V)E, and I do think winning/losing is what it's all about.
>Jon_Demeter: AIKN 15L AKIN +31 295
>Stefan_Kac: ADOSTUV E2 SO.TA +34 352
#note More playing not to lose. 12K VATU felt extremely underwhelming. Sim says it is far preferable. But I'm not sure how I lose after SOFTA
>Jon_Demeter: CIPR 12J CRIP +23 318
>Stefan_Kac: DEJUUUV K6 JUD. +12 364
#note Blocking QAID(S) plays. And praying. Q finds JEU/(CRIP)E, which is a bit better.
>Jon_Demeter: ?CEEHST C12 TECH +25 343
>Stefan_Kac: EGISUUV 2B VUG. +16 380
#note Hmm, was this really my rack? Did I really just make a worse spot under JUDO and we both missed it? Was this pretty much the worst-case scenario after HOO and SOFTA, yet JUDO still "wins"?
