#note 29th Silicon Valley Classic
13 August, 2021 [Friday the 13th]
Game 3
Sim has Y(OD) solidly in second place, well behind K11 Y(U)AN. As Marv Albert said, you fake the call.

#note Ditto the YOD/YUAN thing, now with FAKIE/KUFI. Ditto Marv.
>Natalie_Dicou: IN 4J .IN +16 128
>Stefan_Kac: ALMNOST 5H MA.N +26 115
#note Tricky spot here. Sim prefers dropping the N at K3 for 18. The leave in that case is ALMOST, which is exactly how I feel about the value of that play. I narrow it down to OM(I)T or MA(I)N, then decide to keep OLST instead of ALNS. I also like restoring access to the upper left and upping the volatility.
>Natalie_Dicou: B I5 .B +8 136
>Stefan_Kac: ELNOSTW 2L LOWN +19 134
#note I neglected to consider that the lower right is already forked, hence playing at 13K doesn't actually give back any more than is already on the board, and in fact can force opp further towards the edge. The upside of my play is that EST duplicates less often than any four tile leave, and I again add volatility which I think favors me. Is it a mistake if it works out?

>Natalie_Dicou: EEN 7J .ENE +5 164
>Stefan_Kac: AGILLRS N8 ARGIL +14 234
#note Whoops, G2 GLIAL/A(MAIN) is the star play, shutting down the upper left and leaving optimally. Also, apparently (INTERPOSE)R is a word. These are the finds that separate the underdeveloped human beings from the more fully developed human beings.

>Stefan_Kac: EGORRSV 14J R.VER +24 302
#note Lots and lots of choices here. R(I)VER doesn't sim out all that great, but I can defend it: there are two mutually unblockable areas of the board where bingos could come down in the next couple of turns; if I block one and leave the other, I risk getting locked out; this eliminates the sim's two favorites, 14F VOG and 14C GROVE; I particularly hate GROVE for floating a delicious R at the bottom of the board, which could well become the terminal tile in just such a board killer; with RIVER I (a) score some points, (b) take out the hotspot at 14J,(c) all but take out the scoring spot at O13, and (d) leave the two bingo areas alone. Q finds 13G GROS(Z) scoring 27 and keeping ERV. I think I like this better, though it is certainly not less risky. I don't buy any of the sim's other faves, which seem like all-or-nothing plays. I hate playing not to lose, but this is the board for it.
>Natalie_Dicou: DET 15M TED +16 241
>Stefan_Kac: CEEEGOS E3 C.EGOE +24 326
#note And now I punt on all of the aforementioned logic. I just hate the look of 5B OGEE, but sim is probably right that I lose ever so slightly more often with CHEGOE.
>Natalie_Dicou: AHRT 8A RATH. +36 277
>Stefan_Kac: ?EEIPSU A4 PEnU.IES +62 388
#note As usual, I'm low on time when I really need it, so I can't find (R)ESUPInE or (R)EEqUIPS, and I don't know that the pool cannot bingo much at all. Hence I slap this down and expect to regret it as it seems possible that opp could bingo out and stick me with the junk. A four-ply sim says 3B EPI(C) is a very safe alternative. Or I can just manage my time better and find words I know.
