Game 1
Working title for this week's session: worse play, better results. FAUVE does sim best here. The G is not so bad that VAGUE can compete with this.

#note Ok, well...already feeling that familiar brain freeze sensation which so often accompanies these second and third turns. Whatever the word, playing parallel above FANGED is strongly preferred by the sim. I see this rather quickly but have a bad gut reaction to the idea. I certainly don't love the immediate consequences of AUGH all that much either, but ultimately follow my gut. Maybe I need to get more probiotics in my diet.

#note Sim likes 3I equally. That scores 1 less and would seem to give back way more.
>shdbwrking: ADEISWW F6 WAW +37 59
#note SK pontificates: If you do think AUGH is phoney, don't you just slap this down anyway?

#note I would estimate that I miss TRANSIT about one out of four times. Also OCTANES and a few others. This has taught me that it was wrong to leave common words off of my study lists. What matters here is not "commonness" per se but rather "seeability." CATFACES and GARGANEY are much easier to see than TRANSIT. I prove this here.

#note Sim likes 2B LITTLE or E7 LENTIL. I considered LENTIL but hated blowing up the entire rack and blowing open the bottom half of the board. What I absolutely should have seen and played is LILT/WAWL, keeping ENT. ILL does have some defensive value in restricting floaters and potentially forcing bingos into lanes which give back huge openings, but all of that is pretty marginal and totally not worth the equity loss.

>kacattac: ENNRSTT 10L RENT +24 196
#note Sims best. Was able to figure out that TENT is worse on account of hookability and four Rs unseen, and this is in fact reflected in the sim. I3 T(A)N(G) is an interesting alternative.

#note Sim prefers exch., keeping NST or ST.

>kacattac: CDOSTTV 9C CODS +20 235
#note Sim hates this. All the top-simming plays are at 12K, forming (TORS)O. DOT ultimately comes out on top. CODS did feel like a regression to 1200-level strategy, but let me try to defend it anyway: I think that playing at 12K is an absolutely terrible idea here, unless you think opp is in rack trouble, which I would not necessarily think. (Should I?) If you think opp could be holding a blank here (isn't that a fair inference?), then E7 is the biggest threat on the board, and playing at 12K just makes another lane that opp is more likely to avail himself of this turn than we are next turn with our clunky leave despite our S. So I decided that opp bingoing at E7 was to be avoided at all costs. Of course my play gives back floaters, and there is still row 3 available; all of that I saw. Sim says that opp actually bingos a bit *more* often after CODS than after DOT, so obviously I'm completely wrong about almost all of this: the floaters are actually *easier* to hit than unrestricted E7! That doesn't seem quite right...but sure, I could also exchange here, try to draw a (the other?) blank, and hope for a counterbingo. Sim says I bingo a lot after a proper exchange...but still prefers DOT to exchanging. I need help. Help?

#note The simplest way to ensure you make the sim's best play is to back yourself into a corner.
>shdbwrking: ABEEGMZ 3C MEZE +35 262
>kacattac: DEEINVY D2 V.INY +22 277
#note C'mon Duckbrain, how tf can I float anything, even a V, in the tws lane here with both blanks unseen? Certain things are more likely to be on opp's rack here simply because they will more often be held back earlier in the game. I'm fine with this play. (Z)ED sims the same, but I think this is much better for unloading clunkers and chasing blanks.

#note Saved from myself here? This actually sims ever so slightly better than 11A PEs(T)ERED. Why did I see P(EST)ERED and then chicken out of PEl(T)ERED and never think of playing PEs(T)ERED? Sometimes the unconscious kicks in and creates a brain freeze to save us from ourselves. I'm going to say that this is more a case of needing a warmup game or three to get going on this night.
>shdbwrking: ABEGIOU 5C E.G +39 320
>kacattac: ??DEEOR F11 DEE +13 314
#note Really nice setup by opp neutralized here by my dumb luck. It seems that he won't be able to respond well to almost any opening I make down low. To that end, sim prefers 13F REDO which is...brash. I don't see how DEER is also better than DEE here. Maybe for bag tempo? Def not for position, I don't think; I want his block to involve opening row 15. DEE seems harder to block than DEER. I am just assuming that he can't/won't bingo himself; maybe the black-swan bingo goes down more easily after DEE? But even then I might be left with a usable lane.
