>Carl: ?EHNNOO 8D NONHOmE +70 70
>Matt_C: ERVY J6 VE.RY +27 27
>Carl: BHLLNSZ E7 B.LLS +14 84
#note I did see 7I HELL but thought that BOLLS was substantially better for long-term board control. You can see that VEERY dramatically restricts access to the right side of the board, and HELL opens it all back up again. (-4.5?)
>Matt_C: IQU F5 QUI. +19 46
>Carl: HKLNOSZ 10C HO.K +21 105
#note I saw KOLHOZ H7 but chickened out on it! Deep down I knew it was a word, but I was tired and lazy and went for the thing I was 100% sure of. You can't play scared if you want to win Nationals. Worse yet, just one week prior, I studied KOLHOZ/KOLKOZ/KOLKHOZ as part of my "Things I Gotta Study" list, so it should have been fresh in my mind. There really was no excuse. (-13) #wordknowledgelarge
>Matt_C: OXY K10 OXY +31 77
#note At least he doesn't get OXY/KOLHOZY 47 now, but that's small consolation.
>Carl: ILNRSTZ C9 T.IRL +18 123
#note I can see why I didn't want to play sim-winner ZIN at L8 or G4, but that doesn't make this the right play. It opens a lane that is basically impossible to block. Maybe RITZY 12G or ZINS 11B? (-6) #strategymedium
>Matt_C: DEU L10 DUE +34 111
>Carl: AENNRSZ M12 ZEN +39 162
>Matt_C: IMV G4 VIM +23 134
>Carl: AMNRSSU 7I M.NU +15 177
#note Not really sure what I was trying to do here. Maybe restrict columns H and M while going for long term defense? It's hard to do that with Column B posing a longterm threat, and MENU gives back quite a bit, especially if Matt has a P. Sim-winners here are N13 MUS and 14I UNMANS, but I can see why I didn't want to do those. (-7?)
>Matt_C: ACFGI 14I FACI.G +28 162
>Carl: AJOORSS O12 JOSS +70 247
>Matt_C: ABET 15G BEAT +25 187
>Carl: AAEIORT D1 AERATIO. +73 320
>Matt_C: DENP 8L PEND +37 224
>Carl: EEEIRTT 1D .TTIRE +18 338
#note I felt like I couldn't really play ARIETTE with FWW unseen. The best play is RETE C2, which blocks the 3x3 and clears up the rack nicely. (-4) #visionmedium
>Matt_C: ADF 12A FA.D +24 248
>Carl: EEILRTW A12 .LEW +30 368
>Matt_C: GIOU 3A GUI.O +12 260
>Carl: ACEIPRT O1 PICRATE. +92 460
#note Championship Player insta-plays PICRATED, but it's actually wrong. I have to take out the 3x3, spread be damned. I'm not up by enough to outrun them, and he'll have one at least 2% of the time, usually more than that since he's been building toward a bingo the entire game. Would you have been able to make that sacrifice? Remember: Small risks eventually add up to certain death. (-1% win chances) #preendgamesmall-in-theory-but-large-in-practice
