#player1 JJB John J. Bulten
#player2 RT Ron Tiekert
>JJB: AAEFHRS 8G FAH +18 18
#note 1:50 [23:10] Straightforward, much better than JJB's alternate, afresh 32.
>RT: DOOUV 7F VODOU +26 26
#note ~1:30 [~23:30]
>JJB: AEEORRS J2 REARO.SE +72 90
#note 0:20 [22:50] 5-voweled 8s make the strangest appearances!
>RT: Q -5 +0 26
#note ~0:17 [23:13] Rack unknown.
>JJB: ?CNPRRS 4H PR.NCeRS +80 170
#note 0:54 [21:56] JJB pulls away, while RT is enjoying the fireworks.
>RT: ADELNT 10J DENTAL +27 53
#note 6:06 [17:07] After beginning to lay down slanted o4 24, RT opts for more points and a second nonuple line. Perhaps some of these tiles could have been held back.
>JJB: CEEENOT O1 CEE. +18 188
#note 2:08 [19:48] This choice is not so straightforward. The C can be used for cenote l8 22 (3.4 better evaluation) or tenrec n1 28, or it can be held while two Es are played off. Telco o8 24 also rates slightly better because of points. JJB is busy inventing coeterne*, from the coeternal/tolerance pair.
>RT: AMW N2 WA.M +30 83
#note 0:41 [16:26]
>JJB: EINOOST O8 OI.STONE +113 301
#note 0:27 [19:21] JJB is so surprised to have drawn into it again that he underscores the nonuple (not the first time it's happened!). It's really worth 131.
>RT: DEGNU L8 GU.NED +20 103
#note 2:50 [13:36]
>JJB: EEILPYZ H1 ZIP.Y +63 364
#note 0:37 [18:44] Embarrassingly good draws. JJB feels vindicated after taking a bruising loss against RT 5 months prior.
>RT: Q -3 +0 103
#note 5:06 [8:30] Rack unknown.
>JJB: AEEFILL 5E FLA.E. +26 390
#note 0:50 [17:54] While this is a good parallel, and better than alternative elf 9e 23, one point better still is alef n12 27!
>RT: BEIOT 4A BOITE +25 128
#note 2:22 [6:08] At this point opening up won't hurt any further.
>JJB: AEGILLV A1 VIA.LE +33 423
#note 2:00 [15:54] Finally, a missed opportunity: JJB sees village, but not the incredible villagier 2b 80! He is too busy ruling out villaged*, and makes the next best play, 48.8 behind. After the game, JJB comments that village takes R, S, Y, but still doesn't see the nine.
>RT: IX B6 XI +50 178
#note 0:54 [5:14]
>JJB: EEGKLMQ C3 Q. +22 445
#note 0:28 [15:26] The first ugly rack, but one which can be progressively improved on this board.
>RT: IY L3 I.Y +8 186
#note 2:47 [2:27] At cost of time, RT is approaching a bingo, and does not want to block with yin 14m 12. Yip 3f 9 was available too, though.
>JJB: EEGIKLM N13 GEM +23 468
#note 1:07 [14:19] Meek m12 30 rates 1.9 better, but this play has incredible setup potential that JJB does not see until after playing it. He's disappointed that gemlike, gamelike, germlike will not play.
>RT: ORU 3E ROU. +13 199
#note 1:16 [1:11] Looks like euro k10 17 does the job for 4 points more, and also blocks the A opening at m13, which RT does not hold.
>JJB: AAEIKLR M12 LAKE +42 510
#note 1:44 [12:35] JJB continues to be amazed how well things fit.
>RT: ?HIOTTU 9A wITHOUT +68 267
#note 0:39.6 [0:31.4] After pausing the clock for both players to triple-check the last score, RT finally bingoes, and is compelled to take the last 7 tiles. A few points are available from outwith 75 or outhits 71, both at 9b.
>JJB: AIIJNRW E8 J.IN +22 532
#note 10:10 [2:25] JJB thinks an out-in-two can be found, but none exists without being blockable. Opting for a decent leave, he neglects to prevent RT from a strong reply, and misses possibilities of jowar, hijra, and haji. Jowar e8 30 counterintuitively keeps IIN, but amazingly many of RT's plays will still allow inia, nidi, nisi, or inti, and those that do not are susceptible to in/oi/vodoun 14; so he is better off allowing the out with bands/bangs 32, inia 4+6, net 12 to JJB. To hijra, angst is a good block that leaves two outs. Join meekly threatens rawin, but has many good replies netting up to 12 for RT, so join is worth 10 and jowar's flexibility rates just 2 points higher.
>RT: ABDGNST 12A BANGS +34 301
#note 0:13.6 [0:17.8] RT grabs the highest score, knowing the out can be blocked. Since JJB can net 24 in response, this play is net 10 to RT. Dangs 30, draw 24, bo 10, ai 4+2 is also net 10. However, angst 12a 26 is harder to block; JJB can set up with war 6, bo 10, rai 14+4 for net of 12 to RT.
>JJB: AIRW B11 W.IR +14 546
#note 1:03 [1:22] Now JJB, having used up most of his time, neglects the obvious continuation braw 27, deme 9, ai 4+2, with net of 24. Wair 14, deme 9, za 11+2 is 6 behind.
>RT: DT 15L D... +9 310
#note 0:03.7 [0:14.1]
>JJB: A 11A A. +9 555
#note 0:37.1 [0:44.9] JJB misses 2 on the out (za).
>JJB: (T) +2 557
#note RT makes the best of a crazy set of draws by JJB, catching up 64 points in the end with a bingo and superior endgame play. JJB also misses villagier 80, and 18 more points while scoring a nonuple (these two corrections would have yielded a midgame score of 488-128 and an easy 600 game). Points improvable based on tiles played: JJB 11, RT 17. Points improvable based on values: JJB 65.1.
