#player1 CD Clay Daniel
#player2 JJB John J. Bulten
>CD: LUU 8F ULU +6 6
#note ~0:30 [~24:30]
>JJB: ?EEELOY E3 EYEhOLE +72 72
#note 01:05 [23:55] JJB is shocked this actually goes down.
>CD: ADEEFLR D9 FEDERAL +79 85
#note ~0:30 [~24:00] CD is not shocked and responds calmly.
>JJB: ABDEITU G2 DUTIAB.E +66 138
#note 01:21 [22:34] JJB draws a recently studied rack from the bag (also habitude, daubiest), and is able to keep up the scoring festival.
>CD: FIMR D1 FIRM +42 127
#note ~2:09 [21:51] CD keeps up the pressure with a play essentially equal to the two-bingo open.
>JJB: EIIPSSW C10 WIPE +34 172
#note 03:00 [19:34]
>CD: EINRTTU B5 NUTTIER +73 200
#note 0:50 [21:01]
>JJB: CHILSST 1A CLI.TS +33 205
#note 1:26 [18:08] And now JJB has two strong plays worth a bingo. This is fun Scrabble(R) when both reach 200 in 4 turns and all plays appear optimal.
>CD: AMR 15A MAR. +18 218
#note 2:57 [18:04] Mara/wiper and ram/da/um both score 4 more.
>JJB: GHSSTTV E11 SH +28 233
#note 0:27 [17:41] Few choices! Besides the 3-tile dump verts or verst (.4 better leave value), this is the only better play than exchanging to a bare SS.
>CD: Q 9A Q. +11 229
#note 2:20 [15:44]
>JJB: GKSTTVY I8 SKY +20 253
#note 0:39 [17:02] JJB's propensity against trading fails him, as ST alone is worth 10.5, while GTTV is worth the negative of exactly the 20.0 scored. Besides, the best non-trade is sky/pehs 27.
>CD: NOW H1 WON +23 252
#note 0:44 [15:00]
>JJB: GNNOTTV -GNTV +0 253
#note 5:24 [11:38] Now trading is not needed. JJB sees that ingot 12 improves on got/grids 12, but judges that NOT (0.9) plus 0 is better than NTV (-8.0) plus 12 (it's 3.1 worse). Also, NT is 2.2 and GN is 1.4.
>CD: ACGIR I2 CIGAR +19 271
#note 0:58 [14:02] Fine turnover.
>JJB: ADIJNOT H10 ADJOIN +71 324
#note 0:39 [10:59] JJB only pulls away because of a rash of power draws, starting with adjoint (which actually plays for 33 through the A).
>CD: A 9I .A +6 277
#note 4:31 [9:31] CD opens another bingo line rather than dumping at sha/era 9.
>JJB: ?EGNPTX K8 GENT +17 341
#note 1:40 [9:19] If JJB had been so concerned about keeping ahold of his power, he could've blocked better with ping or pong (both 11). But pox 13g 23 is a fine block (15.4 diff) and no worse than JJB's later power plays.
>CD: ABDEIRT 14G D.ATRIBE +76 353
#note 0:16 [9:15] Redbait: veep believes.
>JJB: ?EGHOPX O12 POsH +44 385
#note 6:57 [2:22] Quackle's focus on still bingoing favors gox a4 24+31.6 over posh 44+2.4 (9.2 diff). JJB imagines exophage* and considers pox 26, but decides the best blank play is now called for. His tracking is poor and not resolved during this turn, so he rides on the hope of blank points now, X points later.
>CD: AEINOOZ 13G O.ZE +51 404
#note 0:13 [9:02] CD pulls out an overlooked quadruple-Z spot for a good lead, but empties the bag, allowing a defeat. A non-emptying play may win a portion of the endgames. It is hard to calculate but, with JJB's rack, ooze 51 seems to indicate vex 28, gonia 21, goose 16+12 (net to CD of 16). Gazoo 48 leads e.g. to vex 28, naive 16, gogos 14+4 (net to CD of 18, 2 better). Then gonzo 48, vex 28, vane 19, goose 16+4 nets 19, 3 better. Ginzo is also competitive. However, this all assumes knowledge of JJB's rack and without fuller analysis CD's play cannot be faulted.
>JJB: EGOOSVX A4 VOX +28 413
#note ~2:02 [~0:20] JJB calculates well and anticipates responding to some of CD's options, but does not note that vex leaves two better outs (goose n10 16, gogos 4i 14). To vox, CD could continue vain 14, sego 13+6, or vino 12, sego 11+6 (net 5 to JJB), but against vex CD must play gonia 21, goose 16+12 (net 7 to JJB). Goxes 42 fails crucially for lack of outplay.
>CD: AAINNOV 8K .ONIA +21 425
#note 8:10 [0:52] CD plays the obvious points, as it appears just about every block of all JJB's outs creates a new out. As described above, vain 7j 14 or vino l5 12 net 2 better to CD.
>JJB: EGOS M5 SEG.O +9 422
>JJB: (ANV) +12 434
#note ~0:15 [0:05] JJB finds the out but does not notice the other goose 16 (kaes/ne), missing 7. If CD had a potential win from his ooze rack, it has not been found; both players took risks on excellent plays but JJB's earlier power draws, and the bag timing, seem to have given him the relatively equal endgame. Points improvable based on tiles played: CD 9, JJB 16. Points improvable based on values: JJB 47.6. |
