#player2 Will Will
>Benjy: AFFO 8E OFFA +20 20
>Will: ADGIOPT 7C GAPO +18 18
#note I like setting up IGAPO, apparently. I thought about a lot of other overlappy stuff here, like GIO, POI, DOIT, PATIO etc. Many of those sim a smidge better than GAPO.
>Benjy: AABET 9C ABATE +26 46
>Will: DHINSST 10G DISH +23 41
#note H7 HADS is best here, setting up HADST in a very annoying way to block.
>Benjy: CEOR 6F CERO +27 73
>Will: HNRSTTU 5I HURT +19 60
#note Odd little blunder here - HUNT > HURT because RST > NST. Also, playing on row 7 scores one more point than on row 5, and still does just as good a job of setting up an extra S hook, at the small cost of opening up a difficult-to-hit TWS.
>Benjy: EO 9I OE +11 84
>Will: ?LLMNST I5 ..LL.. +21 81
>Benjy: CEEILRS L5 .IERCELS +72 156
>Will: ?IMNSTU 11A UNTrIMS +74 155
#note Annoying miss of B1 TSUNAMI for 86. A lot of this type of error at this tourney, and it's just laziness.
>Benjy: UX 6B XU +28 184
>Will: EEEIMSV 8K E.EV +7 162
#note Didn't like where the game was going if I just played 5A MEVE/MEVES or something like that. I'm down tempo and Benjy gets a big TWS to hit hard, and the board is likely to be terrible afterwards. Seemed like a good time to go for it. If he has the second blank, I'm in trouble anyway, so let's try to win as many of the games when he doesn't have it as I can. EREV sims by far best but of course it doesn't factor in Benjy's successful blocks of the spot; on the other hand, he will often have to sacrifice a ton of equity to block, and EREV gets a bump back up from that.
>Benjy: AEGINR N5 REA.ING +15 199
>Will: EIMNSTZ 5C MIZ +34 196
#note I missed O4 METIS which is 26 more points and looks to be worth playing; but MIZ sims in solid second place, giving me solid bingo chances on my next turn, at least a few of which will be 9xes.
>Benjy: AVY B11 .AVY +20 219
>Will: EINOQST A8 TOQ.E +48 244
>Benjy: DRW 7K D.W.R +25 244
>Will: ADIJNOS O6 A.S +35 279
#note Surprisingly the top equity move here by a mile; a shame that I only get 35 points from my setup, but I've gained tempo advantage from the Q and Z and the post-ARS board is very, very poor.
>Benjy: AEEKP D9 .A.KEEP +34 278
>Will: ?DDIJNO 15D .OIND +24 303
#note Scores as well as I can here and keeps the J to score with next turn, hopefully along column O.
>Benjy: BINT 12H BINT. +10 288
>Will: ?DGIJLO 14F DIOL +21 324
#note I did DIOL here to block the last bingo line on the board and empty the bag to prevent fishes up top that would open another lane. I could also have played something up top myself (D2 GOJI, J3 GJU) to increase my own chances of landing a bingo, but felt denying Benjy was safer given my narrow lead on this difficult board.
>Benjy: ANNRTUY O11 UNARY +30 318
>Will: ?EGIJOW M1 JeWIE +37 361
#note I can block Benjy's only out of TYNE here.
>Benjy: NT 14A T.N. +7 325
#note I should also mention that I was playing with a slightly messed up clock button in this game, and at one point we realized that my clock had ticked down several minutes on what we had thought was Benjy's turn. Benjy being Benjy, he immediately agreed that I would get a couple extra minutes to play my moves; a less friendly person would not have offered to do that, and given that it was a close game I could easily have either lost on time or rushed through my moves and lost due to suboptimal play. Thanks, Benjy.
