>michael_fagen: ALOW 8F AWOL +14 14
>josh: ADEGIST 9B AGISTED +73 73
#note I figured there was a tiny chance he might challenge AWOLS, but I liked my choice positionally since I'm giving less bingo potential back. Quackle agrees with the bingo chances assessment but cites other heuristics that counteract that particular one, making this a 2-point mistake in theory. Most important for me was not to give Michael any double-double lanes to work with, let alone two.
>michael_fagen: ?AGNRSU D4 SqUAR.NG +68 82
#note he would have had three different 2x2s had I chosen J5 AGISTED, but unsure if he would know them and play them. GUARANAS, UNGUARDS and GURNARDS, likely one of them at least is in his repertoire.
>josh: ?ADEFNT 10H DEFiANT +75 148
#note started to lay down FL(AT)TENED and realized I didn't have it. Missed the best play by far of 7C c(A)FTANED. Despite it being 8 fewer than B8 c(A)FTANED which I also missed, its defensiveness is phenomenal and well worth the sacrifice. This is around a 4 to 5 point mistake, but it definitely snowballs into something far worse than that.
>michael_fagen: PU 8A UP +16 98
#note his rack appeared to be quite balanced here, as he spent around a minute looking for a bingo with all of the floating tiles on the board.
>josh: DINOTTY 10B YO. +33 181
#note I was pissed when I realized I spaced on (G)I and therefore TYI(N) 10A, which is far and away the best option for me. This is next in line, but many equity points behind. I want to be able to respond to his impending bingo if he draws one, and keeping DINTT is significantly worse than DNOT to that end.
>michael_fagen: AEELNRT K4 TREENA.L +78 176
>josh: BDEINTT 4H BIT.ED +24 205
#note thought it was close between this and B(A)ITED L9, though I failed to ascertain that they scored the same. I liked not giving up L1 for the easy cashing of heavy-tile plays down from L1 with QXZJK all still out, though I suppose giving back QI at 3I is quite the downside. I figured there was a small chance at a challenge, but I doubt it accounts for the equity loss of a point
>michael_fagen: ELOV 8K .OVEL +27 203
>josh: MNORSTV 6J V.NOM +24 229
#note I will never miss this word ever again. I swear on everything.
>michael_fagen: IINNU 5D .UININ +16 219
>josh: EEPRRST 12H PRESTER +82 311
#note could not remember if it was PATTERERS, SPATTERER, PRETREATS or more than one of those. It is PATTERERS and PRETREATS, and PUTTERERS and SPUTTERER. Doing the daily 9s on aerolith is definitely having an effect, however insecure my word knowledge remains. In any case, I was pretty sure of this one. Just not sure enough to outweigh the criticality of this position in this game.
>michael_fagen: ABELORT 13B RETABLO +74 293
>josh: DFIJOUW 3G JOW +40 351
#note I would have played this much faster if I had realized there were no remaining T's and therefore no threat of a bingo at 2I for the rest of the game. I came through after I made the play and regained some composure at the notion, or lack thereof of that recurring threat
>michael_fagen: IRZ E11 IZ.R +32 325
#note vote whether or not Michael saw the D hook. I vote yea. You do not want to miss the D when the opportunity presents herself.
>josh: CDFIIOU 15E DUCI +36 387
>michael_fagen: AGH 3L HAG +25 350
>josh: EFIIKOO 14A KEFI. +35 422
#note this pre-endgame presented its issues. This is far and away the best play almost regardless of what remains unseen, but the threat of AX 15A followed by a big play from O1 such as MESHY was daunting at the very least, as if I draw the Q within all of that, I don't see myself being able to withstand 100 points in two turns, even if I manage to go out before Michael. Upon analysis, in many situations, it appears close. I just need one of XSHY, or for Michael to have or draw the Q it would seem, which accounts for almost all possible scenarios. Still, it isn't a sure win here.
>michael_fagen: ACEEHMQ 15A AM +35 385
#note in a pretty regrettable circumstance, the X is the last tile in the bag.
>josh: AIIOOSY N10 .O.II +10 432
#note Both this and I(L)IA 11J which I somehow also managed to see, are optimal endgame plays. I chose the better of the two equals, as it induces more errors by threatening an outplay, the likes of which any mortal would long to block. I on the other hand must block EXEC 13L, and conveniently enough, both of my plays that get rid of 3 vowels at once do this.
>michael_fagen: CEEHQX C2 CEE +12 397
#note I see why you would want to block, but an endgame requires more than instinct, especially in this case, where you lose 10 points even after finding one of only two blocks of SOYA
>josh: AOSY 14M O. +2 434
#note odd-looking and low-scoring, but this and L12 (T)O both block his 36-point spot to drop the X while leaving me with 26 points next turn. M14 OY, also considered, for 7, looks perhaps just as odd, but retains SA(B) F11 for 20, totalling 27 points in two turns. This is therefore one point better than OY.
