>Avery: IQ 8G QI +22 22
>Mark: EFIMNPY 9F PINY +28 28
#note Not a big fan of making an S hook that's so hard to deal with, but the other options were pretty unpalatable since they gave the triple back. I didn't consider IF, and I think that's best.
>Avery: EJW 7H JEW +24 46
>Mark: EEFMTTZ 6I FEZ +29 57
>Avery: CU K4 CU. +28 74
>Mark: ADEMRTT 4F DETRA.T +22 79
#note He's gotta be keeping well after CUZ, so this partially blocks the SPINY hook (he can't bingo ending in S).
>Avery: AY 3G YA +20 94
>Mark: AGHHMNN 2F HAG +25 104
#note Seems most restrictive out of my options.
>Avery: A - +0 94
#note Exchange 5. Certainly not what I expected after YA.
>Mark: EEHMNNS E6 MENSHEN +84 188
#note I never really thought HMNN would be a good bingo leave. But such is life. The DETRACTS hook is easier to deal with than the SPINY hook, so I decided to play there. Maybe not a good idea since it gives a lot back and forks the board, which is unideal.
>Avery: IKO 10H KOI +29 123
>Mark: ?APSSVX F9 .AX +30 218
#note Kills the bottom part of the board. With two of the last three S's and a blank, I don't see a reason to block DETRACTS. I didn't consider 6C VAMPS, which may have some merit.
>Avery: DEO D11 DOE +23 146
>Mark: ?AAPSSV 14B VAS +17 235
#note Wasn't sure of PAVAN (thought maybe it was just PAVANE), but this kills the DOE hooks.
>Avery: ?EIMORS D1 MOSsIER +78 224
>Mark: ?AALOPS 1A PAL. +24 259
#note At this point I was completely oblivious to the fact that DOES has a back hook. TAPALOS plays.
>Avery: OW 2B WO. +24 248
>Mark: ?AEGOST M2 pOSTAGE +79 338
#note Seconds after hitting my clock, I immediately saw the DOEST hook and made a giant circle on the grid on my scoresheet.
>Avery: I - +0 248
#note Exchange 6
>Mark: ACDENOR L8 ACORNED +75 413
#note Overkill
>Avery: EIITUUV - +0 248
#note I'm pretty sure this was his rack. He challenged.
>Mark: DEFLLNU M10 FEUD +31 444
>Avery: EIITUUV 7M .UV +7 255
>Mark: BLLLNRT 12L ..LL +5 449
#note At least this partially blocks the V...
>Avery: AEIN O4 NAI.E +27 282
>Mark: BILNRTT 2J BLI. +11 460
#note He can't bingo starting in T with the pool, so I decided to keep my T's and go for TRITONE or something.
>Avery: IIORT 15D TORII +25 307
>Mark: GINORTT O10 TO.ING +21 481
#note I did not see his next play, but I had mentally checked out and wanted to get packed so I could get started with the 6 hour drive home.
>Avery: BERU 3A REB. +28 335
>Mark: RT 6B TR.. +8 489
#note Nice tournament for me. I got less than half the blanks but drew very well otherwise (see: ACORNED after POSTAGE, REGAINER in the endgame, etc). Not as many word knowledge mistakes as I had expected given that I spent January through March almost exclusively on school and not on words (hence why ephemeron disappeared from Aerolith for a while). Only had a few things like PAVAN, LAYERAGE and FOAMABLE. Strategy seemed sound overall but made some weak plays across the board. Encouraging to go into the rest of this tournament stretch (5 more before the end of June) knowing I'm doing okay though. Thanks to Mark for continually putting up this tournament and for placing in the cash for the first time since he started hosting! Onto Oklahoma next, where it'll be a lot harder to do well given how many strong players are going.
