#note Every time I wish someone good luck before the game they open with a bingo
>Joshua_Sokol: GJLRTUV E5 JUG.L +26 26
#note I'm not sure. This really puts me in a compromized position. The board can very well get shut down nicely here, but it's still early, so perhaps in theory this is fine.
>Bryn_Bowen: ENNOX F2 XENON +43 119
>Joshua_Sokol: AAIPRTV 2B VARI. +30 56
#note now everything is alright, there are lanes I can hit down the line.
>Bryn_Bowen: ?ORSSUV J2 OVeRSU.S +65 184
>Joshua_Sokol: ACHOPTT H5 POT.ATCH +69 125
>Bryn_Bowen: OPQ 12E QOP. +18 202
>Joshua_Sokol: EELLNTU 11F LU.ENT +22 147
#note things aren't looking great, but it seems I can always open some parts of the board here. And maybe I'll draw something lucky next turn. Gotta keep scoring and balancing though, even though this word doesn't help me at all, since it doesn't take an S.
>Bryn_Bowen: ?ABGIOS 13A BAGnIOS +90 292
#note whoops, I guess I don't play LU(C)ENT then...
>Joshua_Sokol: DEILNOT 5J .OT +6 153
#note creating a diversion here, but I didn't think it would work. I hit a triple-triple with AB, AE, AF, AM, AW, AY, EI, ER, EU, IY and OU, which someone could calculate if they wanted to. It's a very good fish, but I had not been hitting any fishes I had been making, and more importantly Bryn can just block the 3x3.
>Bryn_Bowen: AAEEMNZ M3 AMAZE +38 330
#note good description of how I felt when he hit the clock.
>Joshua_Sokol: DEEIILN A8 INEDI.LE +158 311
#note Had he blocked the 3x3, I just lose. I'm so glad Scrabble has the aspect of not knowing your opponents' rack.
>Bryn_Bowen: AEFGN B6 GANEF +38 368
>Joshua_Sokol: DEIIMWW 8L IDEM +42 353
#note I can drop my W's next turn with 9G W(A)W(S), so even though DEIIM is much more agreeable than IWW, it's likely better to play this first.
>Bryn_Bowen: AFY D1 F.AY +28 396
>Joshua_Sokol: EEIIOWW N1 OWIE +20 373
#note Now it would seem more natural to play OWIE at C4, or even just keep the scoring pressure on with (W)A(W)S, but I need to not only threaten a bingo to win this game. I need to create yet another diversion, because even though I will likely have tempo in the endgame, I will usually be too far behind to threaten to win via scoring. For this reason I also cannot exchange. I will be too vulnerable to getting outscored even if I do manage to get a bingo down. Bryn will see the pool here and realize that my tiles could bingo or score, and he will have to decide what to attempt to prevent.
>Bryn_Bowen: AEIKRSU N8 .UREKAS +26 422
#note Bryn has a few very appealing plays here. This one I really like, because it blocks the most bingos of plays that score decently, and leaves only one in the bag, totally annulling my tempo. He can also play K(O)I 1M or even ASK(O)I to score a bit more. He can score 48 points with 14D ASK and leave himself vulnerable to two huge scoring plays by me, one hooking (LOOK)Y and the other at O1. He can keep his scoring tile with I7 A(E)RI(E)S for 37 (!). Most interestingly, he can play 4L E(ME)U, block the worst of my scoring plays along the O column and keep ASK as backup. That's probably the best play, guaranteeing 66 points in two turns, forcing me to make up 89 in total without my primary scoring spot on column O. Even just (E)UREKA is an option, although that might not do too well if I adjust accordingly. This is by all means a great play, but having missed ASK, Bryn's options become a bit less agreeable.
>Joshua_Sokol: EHINTWY O11 WITHY +64 437
#note I was completely flabbergasted, since I couldn't see myself losing after this play by looking at all of Bryn's possible endgame racks. However, if I draw one of the two I's, I lose by one point after Bryn's play of B(A)T(E)D 3C blocking my best out of NE(V)I and leaving me with only 6 points for (N)INE J11. Once I realized this during Bryn's next turn, I was pissed, because I should have looked for other options knowing WITHY lost 25% of the time. It's hard to imagine a better play than this, and indeed this is best, but it's not enough. I might have played a great game here, and so did Bryn, but I need to do this on a more consistent basis and actually properly iterate through a one-in-the-bag endgame next time. I probably had the best possible 5-tile leave after (R)OT, and Bryn knew I was diverting his attention, but I could possibly just as easily hit 3 bingos to get back in the game if he makes a weak block.
>Bryn_Bowen: BDEIIRR - +0 422
#note he has no choice but to challenge WITHY.
