>Karl_Higby: EIOTTTU G8 TOUT +17 17
>Josh_Sokol: EIILRWZ 11D WIL. +14 40
#note tough position, I was close to parting with my Z with ZI(T)I. That might be the play even though this sims to the top. I also longly considered (T)WIRL and almost laid it down. TWIRL would have worked out badly.
>Karl_Higby: BEEHILT D8 BLE.IT +28 45
#note Good patience by Karl, not immediately playing HEBE and looking for something more defensive that performs similarly well
>Josh_Sokol: EEFIORZ E3 FRIEZE +40 80
#note didn't seeem all that dangerous to give up F6 plays here, but Karl demonstrates the power of the H.
>Karl_Higby: ADEHJNT F5 THAN +48 93
>Josh_Sokol: ACCIMMO 3C MA.IC +30 110
#note now with COM(BE) no longer available, I play MA(F)IC not because it leaves me with COM(BE) for next turn, but because it's the best play anyway you look at it.
>Karl_Higby: EJU 13B JU.E +22 115
>Josh_Sokol: ?ACMNOU 5A ACON..UMs +62 172
#note after looking for a very long time for 7s, I see the only playable bingo in the position, surprising myself and my audience. Karl was not sure if ACONITUM took an S or if ACONITUM was a word we were both making up. I made up that last part. But I also wondered if I was making up the 8.
>Karl_Higby: ADEFITV - +0 115
>Josh_Sokol: ?EEIIIS -EIII +0 172
>Karl_Higby: ADEFITV A4 F.TED +39 154
#note A4 D(A)TIVE and AVI(A)TED look a bit better here as the V is not a good tile to have.
>Josh_Sokol: ?DEKRST 12G SKiRTED +87 259
>Karl_Higby: AAINORV 4I OVARIAN +73 227
#note Still managing to hold on
>Josh_Sokol: AEENOSW H12 .NEW +33 292
#note A lot to consider here. I could play AWE 11K or WEA(N) O1, which keep my rack balanced, but don't really score enough to withstand a bingo from Karl. They also don't really solve the issues on the board. WEA(N) creates a lane on row 2 for the price of blocking rows O and N, and AWE impedes my chances of drawing a bingo by blocking lanes, which is fine because I don't want Karl to get a bingo of his own down. Yet, I ended up choosing this play, which accomplishes much of the opposite of what I want. It keeps a vowel-heavy leave, opens more threats, although unlikely to hit, and keeps everything alive on the right side. Not only that, but (K)NOW in the same spot is better. This seems silly to do, but I did it after a lot of thinking.
>Karl_Higby: AEHIOOS 14A OOH +35 262
>Josh_Sokol: AEIOPRS M8 PARO.IES +74 366
#note oh wow, SOAPIER plays above SKiRTED. Damn. This provides decent constriction to the board and likely wins a bit more often than SOAPIER, but I think I still play SOAPIER for spread in a tournament where that mattered.
>Karl_Higby: AEIQSSY 15A YE +40 302
>Josh_Sokol: AADELNU O3 A.NUAL +18 384
#note things were not looking up for Karl, but I did not know that from my end. I looked a long while through the P for a 5, but could not come up with UL(P)AN or DU(P)LE, sadly. I also was uncertain of U(N)LADEN, even though I knew the only other word like that was OVERLADEN so the chances I was confusing it with something were extremely small. UNLEAD and UNLADE were words I just totally forgot about as well. I was choking.
>Karl_Higby: ADIQSSY F2 Q. +31 333
>Josh_Sokol: DEEINOR K7 ORIEN.ED +68 452
#note just ridic luck, but IRON(W)EED might be better
>Karl_Higby: ADIRSSY J10 YA.D +34 367
#note YI(R)D would be better, but (BLEWIT)S does best by far according to Quackle, whom I do not trust in this position.
>Josh_Sokol: BEGGILP 3K PEG +24 476
#note -10 to G(R)IG L3 to threaten PLEB. I didn't realize how hard it would be for him to block PLEB
>Karl_Higby: GIRSS 2H RIGS +14 381
#note I also thought my play was cute in terms of making a certain extension impossible to block, but then I realized there was a similarly cute way of blocking the extension. 9M (A)GS is the best play here
>Josh_Sokol: BGIL O1 BI...... +30 506
>Karl_Higby: S D8 ......S +19 400
>Karl_Higby: (GL) +6 406
