>Jackson: AAEINTT H7 TA +4 4
>Bryn_Bowen: EFIKRVY I6 YERK +22 22
#note VERIFY in many spots is interesting! It plays at g4 for 28, but also at 9G for 23 and a lot of defense. G4 looks good cause it doesn't give up as many 8s as other VERIFY plays and scores well. 7s will largely play, but many play after 9G verify as well, and I column bingoes aren't terrible.
Bryn correctly identified that YERK lowers my bingo% by a lot, but the expense is very large, keeping FIV and scoring 22.
>Jackson: ACDEINT 8G C..INATED +89 93
>Bryn_Bowen: ?EEFFIV 7L FIFE +27 49
#note interesting position - FIFE is the valuation play, but closes lanes. Fortunately the YERKS hook is very hard to block if I don't have an S, so the board isn't totally restricted. If I have an S i'm likely playing YERKS going right, or something going left that isn't easy to overlap and that blocks the C. I would consider something like FIVE here so that I can't block everything at once. VIFFE(D) is also interesting, shedding the problem tiles and not blocking too much. FIFE wins a sim
>Jackson: BEGIPUY O2 BUGEY.. +16 109
#note wow didn't consider that this could be phony! BUGEYE is a noun
UPBYE J2 looks better - the B and P are not good bingo tiles in these positions cause they generally start a lot of words, so I'm only raising his bingo % by a touch over BUGEYED*.
>Bryn_Bowen: EENUV J2 VENUE +25 74
>Jackson: ?INOOPT 10C POTIONs +71 180
#note moment of truth - TrOPO(N)IN or POTIONs?
This was a very difficult decision for me because it is a balance between shortterm defense and longterm defense. I really despise the YERKS hook and how difficult it is to block without an S. There are also 4 Ss, which feels like a double edged sword - on the one hand, it makes YERKS more of a shortterm threat, but it also means that it's more likely to be blocked (I am reasonably likely to draw an S and kill the spot). POTIONS also has advantages of restricting the bottom right, which actually looks like a possibility if the right overlaps happen, and sinc ethe N at h10 is not nice for opening down to the triple.
TrOPONIN is much better short term, blocking the nice EN lanes, scoring 3 more, not giving back the O and T in POTIONS.
How does this position vary according to how often you think Bryn sees the AVENUE hook? I felt that the less likely he was to see it, the better POTIONs was because the longterm defense is better the less dynamic the board is - if AVENUE is a thing for him, then my advantage with POTIONs is more likely to vanish, whereas if he doesn't see it, my longterm advantage is more likely to hold.
Given the way he played VENUE, making me think he likely didn't see the hook, and the longterm defense of POTIONs, I felt it was the stronger play.
>Bryn_Bowen: ?NNOPST D5 NONST.Ps +70 144
#note nice!
>Jackson: LORSTUW - +0 180
#note totally didn't recognize this
>Bryn_Bowen: DIV 8A VID. +24 168
>Jackson: LORSTUW E3 TROW +23 203
#note I missed (FE)LWORTS, which might be worth it now that I don't have much of a lead. LOW felt like the standard play and I felt sad that it was probably the best option I saw. TROW is much worse short term but sets up my S and doesn't give back as much, especially makes the position harder (no easy 3 row scoring plays and fewer bingoes). Given the increasing chance he doesn't see AVENUE, I also liked to be a bit more defensive, since I have an implied advantage from the AVENUE hook.
>Bryn_Bowen: ABIZ F2 ZA +33 201
>Jackson: AEJLMSU K3 LUMA +30 233
#note was very pissed at myself that I missed the TAJ spot after I hit my clock. Thought about JAPE but I like keeping the J here for the 1 row scoring plays, since there are many As to draw. If I see the g3 spot, this also makes LUMA a reasonable decision.
I should absolutely play JEU now though, it keeps an A and most lovelily prevents g1 plays that accidentally block the AVENUE spot.
>Bryn_Bowen: BDIN G3 BIND +18 219
>Jackson: DEEJSUW C6 WU. +20 253
#note I missed TABU, H1 JEU is okay... As nice as it is to keep the AVENUE hook alive, i'm sacrificing 16 points to do it

#note pretty disgusted with how I played this game - missing UPBYE and thinking BUGEYED* was good, challenging NONSTOPs, missing FELWORTS, missing the TAJ spot, missing JEU/TABU, JADEITE. Argh
