#note woops
>Brett_Smitheram: EGHHMUZ 6H .EZ +34 113
>JD: ?EFIOTW 10H .OWF +19 65
#note FEW needs to go down here in order to fork the board and create a dangerous threat. I'm down, GOWF doesn't threaten much, and while I didn't think Brett had the potential to kill the board yet, I was quickly proven wrong.
>Brett_Smitheram: GHHMOSU L10 SHH +30 143
#note what a gutsy play! immediately after losing a brutal game against Nigel, Brett decides to conduct a land war. I think SUGH is probably better at this spot, but I love the idea instead of playing the equity play of SHOUGH.
>JD: ?EINNTU G12 NU +8 73
#note I liked this because any block on row 14 that doesn't make NUS gives me back a big play on row 15, and I will fork the board if I play a bingo on row 14.
>Brett_Smitheram: AGLMOOU K9 A.OUL +31 174
>JD: ?EINTTY 9B TY. +10 83
#note TIVY is likely better. I worry a bit about brett being able to kill the bottom-left after TIVY, but probably worth the 10 extra points.
>Brett_Smitheram: EGKMOSS A9 SMOKES +24 198
#note wow. game on!
>JD: ?EINOOT B11 OONT +22 105
#note I was happy to see his last play go down because I knew that I could start setting up massive spots that Brett would struggle to do anything with. Here I set up row 15 while making it very hard for him to block (hence not ONO in the same spot).
>Brett_Smitheram: DDGIRRU 14D DRUG +12 210
>JD: ?EGIIJO J4 JI. +19 124
>Brett_Smitheram: ADIILRT 4J .IRD +24 234
#note Brett could play JAI for maximal defense - tough call
>JD: ?EEGIOT M1 GEO.ETIc +70 194
>Brett_Smitheram: AEIILTU 1L I.LU +18 252
>JD: ABCEINR B3 CABINE. +13 207
#note BESMOKES is obviously better. failing that, I think this is the play. I must draw the blank to access the major hot spot on row 15. This also opens up new lanes at the top-left for Brett to deal with.
>Brett_Smitheram: AAEIRTT 3B .ITRATE +20 272
#note Brett latched onto the same idea as me and flips over tiles in search of the blank. He didn't want to set up the X so no CATTIER, but instead gives me column H which I capitalized on.
>JD: CDMNRRV H1 CR.M +33 240
#note I was cool with this because it sets up VERDANCY and UNVARIED as threats, even though exchanging gives me a better chance of drawing the blank - need to be in scoring range and get lucky with the draw, and exchanging here leaves me down too much.
>Brett_Smitheram: AAAAEEO 2G A.EAE +9 281
#note not sure why this placement. this is actually terrible luck for me that he soaked up all the vowels I needed for UNVARIED/VERDANCY and similar plays, since from my perspective my odds looked pretty good after CREM.
>JD: ?DNORVX A4 NOX +27 267
#note lost the game on this move. I obviously can't play COX because my best chance of winning is to draw UNVARIED. playing something like OX at the left also blocks cheap Q plays. I still have shots at UNVARIED and VERDANCY and should've held the N, but I was worried about giving up WOX, hence NOX. However, I should've played OX to tempt him into playing his W as a trap, and then tried to draw the bingo out! I played off the N attempting to draw a bingo on row 15, but should've tried to trick him instead. wish that I'd had more time to realize that setting up WOX was actually something I wanted.
>Brett_Smitheram: ADEIOQV 2C QI +24 305
>JD: ?DINRVW 5I W.N +21 288
#note needed the A! great work by brett to sustain the defense all game, possibly he could've beaten me even if I do draw UNVARIED - I probably need to draw AE to threaten VERDANCY in order to win.
>Brett_Smitheram: AADEO 7F .A.D +22 327
#note nice sequence from brett. much respect for his great play in this encounter.
>JD: ?DIRV D1 V..RIc +24 312
#note should block AERO
