#player1 Will_A Will A
#player2 BJ BJ
>Will_A: AEGIILR 8G GI +6 6
#note Or GIRLIE, or exchanging...
>BJ: CEEIKWW I6 WEEK +21 21
#note Will is obviously bingo-prone, but with this rack I can't see anything great for clogging things up. I didn't like my choices even if he wasn't bingo-prone, for that matter. I5 WICE was probably a better choice in retrospect, though it still wouldn't have blocked his bingo. But hey, on the plus side, after this play I'm ahead! :P
>Will_A: AEILNOR 10F ALIENOR +73 79
#note I forgot about WEEKE ...
>BJ: BCIISWZ K9 C.Z +28 49
#note I missed some better plays here (eg M10 SWIZ) ... I wanted to ditch an I but also several other letters -- got a bit mentally handcuffed I think. COZ wasn't great.
>Will_A: ADEEIIO L10 .OADIE +27 106
#note Took a deep breath playing this after COZ, especially because COZ either signals a very strong leave or consonant overload, both of which do very well after ROADIE.
>BJ: BIISTUW M12 WIT +25 74
#note Missed BITWISE, the only word that would use a TWS here. (I know the word from real life in the tech industry but have never seen it in Scrabble and would probably have guessed it was too much of a niche word to be included.) WIT seems like the right play other than that.
>Will_A: AEFHHIN 14J FA..H +38 144
>BJ: BISSTUU O12 BUST +39 113
#note I have been wanting to exchange pretty much every turn this game so far but just can't quite seem to find the right time to do it. BUST seems like the right play, and for once my leave is not horrendous.
>Will_A: AEEHINR 15D HERNIAE +97 241
>BJ: INPSTUV 6H T.P +14 127
#note I was pretty stumped here. Probably should have dumped G6 VUG.
>Will_A: CEFIORU H1 FRICO. +42 283
>Will_A: ADELOUX (challenge) +5 288
>BJ: GINNSUV 11D VUG +17 144
#note Don't like the double-N leave, but not a lot of choice. Maybe I should have finally exchanged.
>Will_A: ADELOUX G2 OX +36 324
>BJ: GINNSUV 14B GNU +13 157
#note It's a good thing I played off VUG last time, because I drew VUG from the bag. There's nothing worse than the dreaded VUGVUG rack! This game is not going as I had envisioned it might .... Maybe stick the G out there for an -ING play in the future? I dunno.
>Will_A: ADEJLSU 5E JUD. +24 348
#note Drat, obviously JUN.
>BJ: EINNSVY 9C VINY +21 178
#note Ooh, did my -ING setup pay off? I see ENVYINGS, but is it valid? If I try it and I'm wrong, I'm down by almost 200 ... no easy decisions here. Sigh. I decide not to try it, it just doesn't sound valid, even knowing that many -ing words do take an S. It's valid. :( Moving past that ... I didn't want to block my own -ING lane that I'd set up the previous turn, but I couldn't see anything better than VINY and wanted to ditch those letters.
>Will_A: AAELMRS 4H .ERAMALS +76 424
>BJ: DENQSTY -QDY +0 178
#note Didn't know SYNDET, and didn't want to clog up these lanes with QAT or a parallel play, with both blanks still out there. So I decided to exchange, for better or worse. (Probably the latter.)
>Will_A: ?DEEERT 1H .ETtERED +86 510
>BJ: AEILNST 2B ALIEN.. +18 196
#note Finally, a good rack!!! .... oh ... nowhere to put it. I tried for 8s through A or L or S, and 9s, but nada. Impossible choices in a game like this. There's still a blank unseen, so I open another lane.
>Will_A: ?AABEOS N4 .AvABOES +61 571
>BJ: NOOQRST D1 Q.NS +46 242
#note Thank goodness I don't have to stress about those unseen blanks anymore! Holy cow a 46-point play. I'm ecstatic! :)
>Will_A: DLMOPTY O7 LYM +51 622
>BJ: IOORT 5K TOR. +18 260
>Will_A: DOPT 6D DOP +31 653
#note I should have taken this spot with ROOT last turn, but it was hard to muster the effort to do the right thing at this point.
>BJ: IO 7C IO +6 266
#note Final score was actually 658-268 (forgot to +5 for challenging WEEKE).
Looking on the positive side:
* I saw a bingo, even though I didn't play it (ENVYINGS).
* It wasn't my all-time lowest score.
* I kept Will under 700.
* I lost by less than 400.
* I didn't flip the board and rage quit.
Mercifully, I went on to win all five of my remaining games in the tournament. So I got that going for me, which is nice. |
