>Scott_Appel: EEFJ 8G JEFE +28 28
>Joshua_Sokol: IINX J4 NIXI. +28 28
#note I considered this and (J)INX. I bingo very often after (J)INX, but I liked scoring extra here and playing more defensively, causing Scott a few more problems. I did think that (J)INX gave Scott too many dumps. JEFE implies a less-than-average rack leave and Scott probably can't do much with the letters I'm giving him. Interesting debate here, even though JINX is the clear equity play.
>Scott_Appel: AGOTU 4J .OUGAT +16 44
#note usually it is not correct to set up a big S-hook at top level for nothing, but it's definitely better here to play 5E AGOUT(I) with the same tiles and not open a big triple.
>Joshua_Sokol: DEINSTT K8 STINTED +81 109
#note held for a little bit
>Scott_Appel: AAEP M3 A.APE +18 62
>Joshua_Sokol: AABDHIW O1 WID.H +36 145
#note WHA(T) is better equity, but I figured that BAA was fine, especially since I have BAA J10 for 25 or AB N1 for 21 at the least.
>Scott_Appel: ACEIMY 12H MEA.Y +26 88
#note First Scott put down L12 EMIC forming DI#, then begrudgingly played this. I think ME(D)IACY was possibly missed, however it gives a lot back with not much in return except scoring 8 more points. AMI(A) at N1 to keep scoring tiles perhaps to keep up with me, but I don't know what his last tile was.
>Joshua_Sokol: AABLNOR 10F BARON.AL +68 213
#note I talked myself out of this word, then back into it. It's early in the tournament and I really don't want to screw up with a word like this, but it just had to be good. Scott held and challenged after a minute or two.
>Scott_Appel: IQ - +0 88
>Joshua_Sokol: BCLLNSS 5H BL.N +16 229
#note I don't want to open rows 6 and 4, but I'm ahead enough that row 5 is a big threat as it's a 2x2 row.
>Scott_Appel: ?ACINQU 13G QI +25 113
>Joshua_Sokol: CDLORSS 11E COL +16 245
#note I think I missed SCRO(B). But I don't really want to do that, I want to close stuff down. I'm just worried about not drawing a vowel. I think Scott's rack is also more groomed than usual and SCRO(B) will likely give him something he doesn't have. But perhaps his rack is worse than I thought. I kept the D over the L for 3 points because I felt it was worth 3 points if I played it on a triple. I expected Scott to set one of my eses up with a play on row 14, I just need to draw a vowel and I'll be set. Stll, COD is probably better.
>Scott_Appel: GIV 14F VIG +32 145
#note pretty good news for me.
>Joshua_Sokol: DFNRSSZ -FRND +0 245
#note I could play through this, but I think it's better to exchange and hope to draw an E for SEZ/MIGS or SEZ/AGAPES.
>Scott_Appel: ACDIT 14J A.DICT +24 169
>Joshua_Sokol: AOSSTUZ O11 TOU.S +18 263
#note I also figured he might play something like A(D)DICT and I could snapback with my Z, but alas I didn't draw the right stuff. This sims best, there's really not much else to do here but block and wait. I'm not happy that he's thoroughly outscoring me at this point.
>Scott_Appel: ?EFGIMR 6B GERMIFy +71 240
#note and this was the perfect time to bingo. I knew he was desparate. I knew this was almost definitely not a word, I knew Scott was nervous about playing this because he probably didn't think it was a word, but so early in the tournament I got nervous myself and just decided I was still very much in the driver's seat here, and if this happened to be valid (I could have easily forgotten that this word existed), I would be in big trouble
>Joshua_Sokol: AIKRSUZ C2 AZUR. +28 291
#note I have 44 points waiting for me at 15H, but it seems much more apt to block some bingos, force the ones he does have to open something big, and once again keep scoring tiles with my S for the spots on the board. Keeping an S was also pretty good because of any setups he might try to make, however he can't really set an S up very well on this board, which I realized. I think I missed 5D AUK, which sims at the top as well. Thats a good play, and I might do it instead of AZUR(E).
>Scott_Appel: ORRU E4 RU.OR +14 254
#note luckily for me Scott is back to drawing crap.
>Joshua_Sokol: AEIKNNS 15H SKI +44 335
#note now it's going to be really hard to set up an S (column D being the most likely candidate for such a play), so I'm fine giving mine up to score. INKE(R) sims best but I didn't even consider doing that. I guess if he scores on row 8 and I don't draw anything to score with I could be in trouble, but I think I could hold on regardless. There would be 5 tiles left and I could block with overlaps a lot of the time or just play 3 or 4 and set up a scoring spot elsewhere on the board if I can't block well. True that the A in AZUR(E) is now a problem, so preventing a bingo looks less likely as a path to winning. I think INKE(R) is the right play.
>Scott_Appel: DEEL 8A ELDE. +21 275
>Joshua_Sokol: AEHNNRY 9A HAEN +21 356
#note 2B R(A)YAH was a lot, but not enough to outrun the worst bingos he could have. So I chose this to block the most stuff and keep scoring tiles to score enough in the endgame to hold on. NEAR(By) was missed, and that looks really good too, perhaps better than my play, even though it doesn't block nearly as much as HAEN.
9K (T)HANE not to block but to hopefully hit a bingo myself also wins 100% of the time apparently, but NEAR(By) has got to be the play.
>Scott_Appel: W 2C .W +5 280
>Joshua_Sokol: ENOPRTY 1D ONERY +33 389
#note got scared I was missing something weird here, so I just went with the sure win. -3 to P(AW)NOR and -1 to T(AW)NY
>Scott_Appel: ?EEOOSV 8M SEV +27 307
#note B8 (LA)VEErS
