#player2 Jim_Burlant Jim Burlant
>Darrell_Day: ?AEEFRT -EF +0 0
>Jim_Burlant: ?CDGGHT -DGG +0 0
#note Best exchange. Exchanging 4 keeping CH? is also a strong play.
>Darrell_Day: DEH 8F EDH +14 14
>Jim_Burlant: ?CHRTUV F7 V.TCH +19 19
#note Ugh. Debated between this and CURVET, and never considered VERTU. This was a tough call, but really - how likely is he to have the K?
>Darrell_Day: DEIK 6D DIKE +47 61
#note OUCH!
>Jim_Burlant: ?AEEORU 5G AUREOlE +64 83
#note The only bingoes are this word at 7H, 9H and here. Nothing plays on rows 10 or 11. This scores 64 and doesn't open up plays to O8; this is best.
>Darrell_Day: Q E5 Q. +22 83
>Jim_Burlant: AABOPRY 4J PYA +27 110
#note Fail. KVETCH takes a back Y, which never occurred to me. If you whiff on that hook (best is 12D BOYAR), BAYOU H1 is the fallback, and I never saw that either. This sucks.
>Darrell_Day: EEOO 10F .OOEE +9 92
>Jim_Burlant: ABLLOPR 9I BOLL +18 128
#note More whiffs. H1 LABOUR. I saw D, S, and Y back hooks to DIKE and never recognized the R hook. If you whiff on that this is reasonable, but not great. Best of the rest may be 6K BALL.
>Darrell_Day: INT 11F .INT +16 108
>Jim_Burlant: AIIPRSV J2 VI..R +20 148
#note I finally get one right. This is best; DIVA D6 is next best, winning 2% less often.
>Darrell_Day: IIRZ 2J .IZIR +34 142
>Jim_Burlant: AAEIIPS 1N AI +8 156
#note I thought it would be worth risking 1 turn to fish given my leave, but apparently I should just score: SEPIA O2 scores 28 and ASEA O21 scores 33. Probably SEPIA if I had this to do again.
>Darrell_Day: DEGOW L8 G.OWED +26 168
>Jim_Burlant: AAEIOPS 8K A.IOS +20 176
#note I'm not playing very well but these draws aren't helping, either. No need for me to burn the S, either. OPA K11 scores 27.
>Darrell_Day: ACELNR 13I CAN.LER +26 194
>Jim_Burlant: AEIOPTT O12 P.AT +27 203
#note The best play here is impressive: A non-bingo SEPTORIA scores 33. This is as good as anything else if you whiff on that.
>Darrell_Day: MU N13 .MU +20 214
>Jim_Burlant: EEILORT D6 .OLERITE +70 273
#note Only bingo - 84% to win.
>Darrell_Day: NWY C13 WYN +28 242
>Jim_Burlant: BGNNU 15A BU.G +27 300
#note Didn't write this rack down correctly - all I have is this fragment.
>Darrell_Day: M 14B M. +22 264
>Jim_Burlant: ANNNORT 12J NA. +7 307
#note His play of MY was huge - I had planned on playing ANY 14A for 20 and I didn't have much scoring. However, it's getting late - the X is still a threat and with only one E left, if he hits XU 14J, I may not be able to come back and make AXE on row 15. I have a crappy rack, but the pool is vowel depleted to begin with. Post-mortem, he revealed he did have the X, so I was indeed right to be concerned.
>Darrell_Day: DF H4 F.D +22 286
>Jim_Burlant: ?GNNORT 11K T.O +18 325
#note Not worried about rack building or potentially bingoing - against Darrell that's a fool's errand to even consider that possibility. I was just looking to score 18 points.
>Darrell_Day: EJT C7 JET +41 327
>Jim_Burlant: ?EFGNNR 3L EF +32 357
#note Apparently less is more - FEN 3M scores 25 and would have prevented the improbable sequence that followed. This should have still been enough to cinch the win, but this was where things wen out of the box. Earlier in the game, our timer had accidentally reset itself. With John Robertson's blessings, we proceeded based on estimated time...and FAIK I may have been accurate...or maybe I had shortchanged myself. Regardless, watch how this unfolds:
>Darrell_Day: AX 8A AX.. +33 360
>Jim_Burlant: ?AGNNR N6 GR.ANs +18 375
#note Down to less than an estimated 2 minutes, I slapped this down, confident he had nowhere to go with his next rack. This puts me up 15 and I have two outs he can't simulatneously block. Note that 2 other plays would have prevented what follows: SARONG N5 for the same 18 points, and KVETCHiNG for 25. Anyway, I should be in good shape. What could go wrong?
>Darrell_Day: ISSSU O1 .SSUS +24 384
#note Darrell made a nice play here.
>Jim_Burlant: N 13C ..N +6 381
>Jim_Burlant: (I) +2 383
