>Jim_Burlant: ??EITWZ 8G WIZ +30 30
#note I saw TWIZzlE but convinced myself it was a made-up word. Instead, I eventually put this down to move on. If I'm going to chicken out on the bingo I should probably split my blanks with ZoWIE for 52. At least that way, Jeff could infer from the ridiculous amount of time I spent on this that I was having a hard time deciding whether to burn my only blank. Taking forever and a half to finally put down WIZ makes clear that I had at least one, if not two, blanks. The consolation: post-mortem Jeff told me his opening rack was DEEILSY. WIZ turned out to be the only thing I could have put down that prevented him from bingoing back!
>Jeff_Fiszbein: DEEILSY 9E LYE +13 13
#note Looks like I'm not the only one who doesn't instinctively recognize the new 3's. YEZ I6 looks best.
>Jim_Burlant: ??DEOST E4 hOSTe.ED +78 108
#note Any number of 78-point bingos available - paralysis by thousands of chioces. Sim winner is H8 ISOLATED. I just looked for something without seroius vowel placement issues that took out the E column. 70% to win.
>Jeff_Fiszbein: DEILRST 5C ST.LIDER +59 72
>Jim_Burlant: ADEEILO H1 OILE. +21 129
#note Interestingly, AIDED in the same location also sims well. 3 more scoreboard points (not to mention 8 unseen A's) makes it a good choice too. But OILED is best.
>Jeff_Fiszbein: ENQU J2 QUE.N +36 108
>Jim_Burlant: AADENPR 8A DRAP. +30 159
>Jeff_Fiszbein: AIO D3 IO.A +12 120
>Jim_Burlant: AAENOPY C2 YAP. +26 185
#note This left me a little vowel heavy, but I thought this defended a little better against the X. The other play I had considered was 10B PAYEE. I chose this for defense. Best, apparently, would have been C3 POSY for 34. Still in good shape; inching up to 77% winning chances.
>Jeff_Fiszbein: AISU 2J .UAIS +28 148
>Jim_Burlant: ABENOTT 1L BOAT +38 223
#note Easily my best play. 86% to win.
>Jeff_Fiszbein: EGR L1 ..RGE +16 164
>Jim_Burlant: AENTTVW 10B ATW.EN +26 249
#note I like this play a lot. It kills the southwest, turns 5 tiles, and outscores all but D10 WAVE with none of the defensive liabilities of WAVE. Q thinks that less is more and that C7 VAW for 17 is the ticket. I'm fine with this.
>Jeff_Fiszbein: CHI D10 .ICH +27 191
>Jim_Burlant: EEFSTVV 7J SEV +21 270
#note Since none of my options immediately clear all the clunk, this turn becomes a matter of, "what CAN I do with these tiles?" I *can* make sure that he can't hit a 7 down the K or m Columns, and I can unload one of my V's, all while not opening anything dangerous. Hence, this choice. Statically it does poorly. A sim, however, makes clear I was right. This is best. Just shy of 90% to win.
>Jeff_Fiszbein: HM B1 HM +28 219
>Jim_Burlant: AEFGITV B6 VI.G. +17 287
#note I was about to put down THIEF 13C, but then I saw the pool - with the X out, I didn't want to do it. Additionally, it opens up another bunch of lines for easy 7's. VIRGA turns a few tiles and doesn't open anything dangerous with X unseen. THIEF wins a sim, but interestingly enough, this play isn't very far behind. This is a very strong choice and it's still just shy of 91% to win.
>Jeff_Fiszbein: CFL 1F FL.C +9 228
>Jim_Burlant: AEFNOTU 13B FO. +18 305
#note No choice now. I either have to slot the triple with OAF C13, play OF C13 and give him a T hook (one T still unseen), or play FOH and concede the X bomb. Given my options, this looks to be the least risky of my choices. A sim confirms this is a very strong choice, but I may have missed a slightly better play: AUTO 9I. It reduces the K and M columns to disconnected 9's, and it doesn't give back potential X plays. AUTO looks a bit better than this. Still 93-1/2% to win.
>Jeff_Fiszbein: ERX 14A REX +39 267
>Jim_Burlant: AEGNTUU -UU +0 305
#note Tough call. Three O's are unseen and row 15 is now a major threat. Problem is, if I block it with EN/ET and he hits either on row 11, row 9, or down the K or L columns, I'll be stuck with 2 U's and won't have the rack to be able to respond. One other problem: I'm starting to get low on time. I decided I had to have to cross my fingers and hope he couldn't do any serious damage on row 15. Quackle thinks I should dump one of the U's with UH 1A. Looks right. Not necessary to exchange, and this game is close enough that I need the extra 15 points.
>Jeff_Fiszbein: MNO 15B MON +24 291
>Jim_Burlant: AEGNORT 15B ...TAGE +30 335
#note Down under 2 minutes by now; I immediately slapped this down so I could put some quick pionts on the board and force his hand. Best is apparently 1A OH to fish 1 to AEGNRT.
>Jeff_Fiszbein: IN I8 .IN +13 304
>Jim_Burlant: DEJNORU 11H JEON +35 370
#note Jeff's play of ZIN shows why MONTAGE's 30 points may have been fools' gold. ZIN was an excellent play, as he's opened a second line, and I can't block everything. All I could do was empty the bag and hope he didn't have a bingo rack. According to Championship Player I'm still 91% to win.
>Jeff_Fiszbein: ABEINRT 14F BAR +26 330
#note As luck would have it, he's one tile off. Got lucky at the end - my late game mismanagement due to time pressure could have cost me the win.
