#note oh wow, this is an inexplicably bad move. i don't usually mess up equity this bad. even 3I XU, which i considered for a bit, is much better. i had a feeling this was a bad move, but, i don't think i considered TIX or TAX seriously, or i severely undercounted them. this is a 17 point equity mistake vs K5 TIX!!

#note ugh what am i doing. he insta-challenged this.
>higby: EGOV H1 VOG.E +27 199
>cesar: BCIKRUY 11A BRICKY +43 188
#note see how unlucky i am? if i had drawn ABCKRUY instead of BCIKRUY, i'd have BUCKAYRO right now for 104 pts. i bet Josh has never even heard of this word.

#note it took me a giant deal of discipline and self-control to talk myself into challenging this play
>cesar: AHILNSU C2 SHAULIN. +76 264
#note basically, i had 4 possible options, ordered from worst to best:

- let TOMBY* go and chicken out on SHAULING: if it turns out that I look up these words at the end of the game, which i will almost certainly lose if i don't bingo within the next turn, combined with the psychological edge of playing BUCKY* and getting insta-challenged, this would immediately throw off my entire tournament. Even though this is only game 3, the game 2 loss hurt because i played that game nearly perfectly, and then suddenly fell apart here.

- accept TOMBY, and play SHAULING: This sucks, but I would still pull slightly ahead. I probably still lose if I don't draw that second blank or another bingo. I'd kick myself severely for not challenging TOMBY, which by the way is starting to look more and more familiar.

- challenge TOMBY, and chicken out on SHAULING: before this tournament I went through all 5s that score 8 or more points. It doesn't explain why I played BUCKY (this is a classic brainfart in the most literal definition of it), but TOMBY* just looked so bad. I considered SHAULING at first before telling myself, nah no way, it's only HAULINGS and NILGHAUS, then telling myself, wait there's maybe one more in there? but I wasn't going to play it.

- challenge TOMBY, and play SHAULING. This would have the best psychological impact - I'd pull ahead by quite a bit, I know his partial rack, and it would almost completely negate my terrible BUCKYBALL blunder. Whilst I thought this is the lowest probability of success of all 4 options, it quickly became clear that I had to do it, in order to regain any semblance of my sanity back. At least, I wouldn't regret it as much as the other three options.

Now, as to which shauling is best, no clue.
>higby: DEMO D1 DOME +31 230
#note maybe the other shauling
>cesar: BFHLNRS L1 B.H.LF +17 281
#note boosted by a new sense of self-confidence, after drawing the S, and the fact that he didn't get rid of his Y yet, thus hindering his rack slightly for next turn (because the Y is the worst tile in the game), i decided to make the optimistic play here. I was well aware that the Quackle equity play is 5A FLUSH, and many times I would play it, but hell, i wanted to bingo and run away with the game! Surely NRS would work out, even though the ratio is 15-19 V-C unseen! for what it's worth, quackle only calls this a 1-point mistake...

#note i think this is right over BINDS
>higby: EY 12A YE +22 270
>cesar: AILNRST D9 .N.IAL +16 316
#note the tile gods couldn't let me get away with my blunders earlier in the game. next to me i see people playing absurd phonies and double blanking their opponents, but i need to play perfect games to succeed. although he gives me another lane, RATLINS, a bingo that should fit in all sorts of places, fits nowhere. unfortunately i started running out of time and made a pretty dumb play, breaking up my rack and NOT being defensive (i forgot UNCIAL took an S). I have to probably play (BY)RLS here as much as I don't want to play it. the S isn't necessarily a huge tile here, other than the fact that it's in a lot of bingos.
>higby: ADEOPST M7 PODESTA +88 358
#note ugh god
>cesar: IIMORST N10 MI +22 338
#note 6E MOI might be better, keeping as many lanes open as i can and a better leave. i wanted to avoid the JVZ though.

#note this game was a total disaster and i actually wanted to cry at the end of it. just kidding, men don't cry. but in all seriousness, this game was basically the end of the tournament for me, i can't expect to cash or not be rated 2 if i play anything like this. how do i fix before nationals?
